Fri Jul 27 201219:16Andino could be back sooner than expected
Robert Andino (shoulder) was initially slated to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday, but looked so good pregame on Friday that his timetable has been moved up.
Andino will now begin his assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday and Monday, and could be activated by the Orioles as early as Tuesday if all goes well. Upon his return, he's expected to regain his role as the Orioles everyday second baseman, giving him plenty of value as a middle infielder in deeper mixed formats.

Mon May 7 201221:45Robert Andino goes deep
Robert Andino ripped a solo homer in Monday's loss to the Rangers.
It was one of two blasts on the night for the O's -- Wilson Betemit had the other one -- but they were no match for the slugging Rangers. Andino is off to a nice start this year, batting .306 with three bombs and 11 RBI.

Fri Mar 16 201216:17Robert Andino hits first homer for Orioles
Robert Andino hit his first homer of the spring Friday versus the Twins.
Andino is 5-for-22 this spring. With no timetable for Brian Roberts' return, it seems a lock that Andino will be the Orioles' Opening Day second baseman.

Wed Feb 15 201208:45Andino 'frontrunner' for second base job
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday night that Robert Andino is the "frontrunner" for the second base job if Brian Roberts (concussion) isn't ready for the start of the season.
"He showed last year that he can do it," said Showalter. "He's a better defender than all those guys, I feel like. And I think Robert's deserving. Right now, I'd say Robert is the frontrunner if Brian can't play." Andino, 27, batted .263/.327/.344 with five home runs, 36 RBI, 13 stolen bases and a .670 OPS over 139 games last season. He would be worth an investment in AL-only leagues if Roberts' concussion issues continue to keep him on the sidelines.

Wed Jan 25 201210:40O's, Andino avoid arb. with new contract
The Orioles and Robert Andino avoided arbitration by agreeing on a one-year contract.
Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the deal is worth $1.3 million. Andino, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, requested $1.6 million and was offered $1 million by the Orioles when arbitration figures were exchanged last week, so the two sides settled at the midpoint. The 27-year-old batted .263/.327/.344 with five home runs, 36 RBI, 13 stolen bases and a .670 OPS over 139 games in 2011. He would likely open the season as the O's starting second baseman if Brian Roberts has any setbacks with concussion symptoms.

Tue Jan 17 201221:25Robert Andino requests $1.6M from Orioles
Robert Andino requested $1.6 million and was offered $1 million by the Orioles when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
Andino is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter after hitting .263/.327/.344 with five home runs, 36 RBI, 13 stolen bases and a .670 OPS over 139 games in 2011. The two sides should be able to bridge that $600,000 gap before a possible trial next month.

Sat Oct 1 201110:51Robert Andino could start at 2B in 2012
Due to Brian Roberts' concussion issues, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun thinks Robert Andino "has to be penciled in as the starting second baseman" for the Orioles next season.
It's true that if the O's go with an in-house candidate, Andino will likely get the call. But, the odds might be greater that either Roberts will come back healthy and regain his job or the team will seek help outside the organization. Connolly is right, though, in saying that Baltimore "should go forward with offseason plans as if Roberts will not be available - and treat it as a pleasant dilemma if he can play." Andino is considered a good defensive player, but the career .245/.302/.331 hitter is probably best served in a utility role.

Thu Sep 29 201100:39Andino stuns Red Sox again
Robert Andino deep sixed the Red Sox for the second time in three games Wednesday, this time ending their season with a two-out, walkoff single in Baltimore's 4-3, come-from-behind victory.
A 27-year-old career .245 hitter, it's unlikely Andino will ever be able to top this. He should be back on Baltimore's bench in 2012.

Mon Sep 26 201123:29Andino hits three-run, inside-the-park HR
Robert Andino hit a three-run, inside-the-park home run in Monday's win over the Red Sox.
Andino crushed a ball to deep center that popped out of Jacoby Ellsbury's glove. The relay throw then air-mailed catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, giving Andino his fifth home run of the season. Andino's had himself a nice little season, batting .266/.331/.349 in 500 plate appearances. That's probably too much many plate appearances for a player of his talent, but he's by no means hurt the Orioles.

Wed Sep 21 201105:33Andino comes through in the clutch for O's
Robert Andino went 3-for-5 with a run and three RBI against the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Andino had two hits in his first four at-bats before powering a two-out, three-run double in the eighth inning. That hit turned out to be the game-winner for the O's, as they downed Boston 7-5. Andino is finishing the season strong, hitting safely in 15 of his past 17 games. He also added his second stolen base in two nights.

Thu Sep 8 201117:07Robert Andino delivers game-winner for O's
Robert Andino delivered a game-tying single in the eighth and a game-winning single in the 10th as the Orioles edged the Yankees 5-4 on Thursday.
Andino had himself quite a series, going 8-for-20 with a homer and four RBI. Thrust into the most substantial role of his career by Brian Roberts' concussion, Andino has hit .264/.328/.337 in 383 at-bats this season. That's not stellar by any means, but it's good enough that he should enter next spring pretty much assured of a roster spot for the first time since he debuted with the Marlins in 2005.

Mon Sep 20 201013:26Andino has started three straight games at 3B
Robert Andino has started three straight games at third base.
Young third base prospect Josh Bell is batting just .214 with 51 strikeouts in 145 at-bats this season. "We're giving Andino some opportunities that Josh got," O's manager Buck Showalter said. He is worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues that still allow roster movement.

Wed Sep 1 201014:54Orioles recall Andino from minors
Orioles purchased the contract of INF Robert Andino from Triple-A Norfolk.
Andino is not on the 40-man roster, however the team is expected to announce a corresponding roster move this afternoon. The 26-year-old infielder was batting .264/.302/.405 with 13 home runs and 76 RBI over 546 with the Tides. He'll function as infield depth in September.
Tue Aug 31 201015:14O's likely to call up Andino Wednesday
The Orioles are likely to call up infielder Robert Andino on Wednesday.
Julio Lugo was nailed in the head with a pickoff throw over the weekend and is still on the mend, while Brian Roberts is day-to-day with a hip injury. Andino will provide the O's with infield depth down the stretch.
