RHP Corey Kluber, who is thought to be the favorite to win his second Cy Young Award in the last four years, led the major leagues with a 2.25 ERA in the regular season. But Kluber had a forgettable postseason. In his two playoff starts against the Yankees, he had a 12.79 ERA, having allowed nine runs on 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings. In Game 5 on Wednesday, Kluber gave up three runs, including two home runs by SS Didi Gregorius, in 3 2/3 innings. "He just didn't have the normal, crisp movement on his pitches. A lot of his pitches were flat," manager Terry Francona said.

"I'm healthy, so that's really ... the main goal is to get the work in and kind of feel like you're in a good spot," Kluber said. Kluber lowered his major league-leading ERA to 2.25. Kluber is the first Indians pitcher to lead the majors in ERA since Mike Garcia (2.36) in 1949. In 16 starts at Progressive Field this year, Kluber was 10-2 with a 1.81 ERA. RHP Corey Kluber threw seven shutout innings, extending his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 22, which goes back three starts. Kluber allowed three hits, striking out nine with no walks. In 21 starts since June 1, Kluber is 14-2 with a 1.69 ERA, an opponents' batting average of .169, and 211 strikeouts and 21 walks in 154 1/3 innings. "He's just so tough," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "He pounds down and away, down and away, with that heavy sinker and then the slider and breaking ball. He's a premiere guy. RHP Corey Kluber reached double digits in strikeouts for the 14th time this season after he struck out 13 in the Indians 11-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Kluber, who is 15-4, won his third straight game and posted his 19th quality start of the season. Thursday's outing represented the 38th time Kluber has reached double digits in strikeouts in his career and his 14 outings this year with at least 10 strikeouts is tied with Washington's Max Scherzer for the second most in the major leagues this year.

But he allowed just one other baserunner all night and retired the final nine batters he faced. Since coming off the disabled list June 1, Kluber is 10-2 with a 1.90 ERA in 17 starts. Overall this season, Kluber is 13-4 with an American League-leading 2.63 ERA in 23 starts. He also ranks third in the AL with 215 strikeouts.

RHP Corey Kluber struck out 12 in Wednesday's game, giving him 208 strikeouts for the season, the fourth year in a row he has had over 200 strikeouts. "When you back up being good with being consistent, that's the biggest compliment you can give a player," said Manager Terry Francona.
