Fri May 5 202319:01Brandon Drury Back In Starting Lineup Friday
Los Angeles Angels utility player Brandon Drury is back in Friday's starting lineup against the Texas Rangers and right-hander Dane Dunning. Drury got a breather in Thursday's series finale win over the St. Louis Cardinals after homering on Wednesday. The veteran is hitting just .235 with a rather large 32.7% K% on the season but the veteran has also provided some pop with six homers, five doubles, a triple, and an attractive .245 isolated power on the season. According to his 99 wRC+, that production sits just one tick below the league average. He'll hit seventh and man first base Friday night at home.

Thu May 4 202308:38Brandon Drury Up To Six Home Runs In 2023
Los Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. He took Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas deep in the second inning to tie the game 1-1. The 30-year-old is starting to heat up and has homered five times over his last nine games. Drury is slashing .343/.395/.886 during that nine-game span. Overall, he is slashing 235/.273/.480 with six homers, 18 RBI, and 13 runs scored across 100 plate appearances in 2023. Drury is a solid DFS option in Thursday's matchup against Jack Flaherty and provides a substantial value at first or second base at his $3,900 DraftKings price tag.

Tue Mar 21 202315:00Brandon Drury Back In Tuesday's Lineup
Los Angeles Angels corner infielder Brandon Drury (calf) is back in the team's Cactus League lineup on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks and right-hander Zach Davies. Drury is starting at first base and is hitting second in the batting order. It's his first spring game since injuring his calf while fouling a ball off his leg last Friday. The 30-year-old will be ready for Opening Day in his first year with the Halos. He hit a combined .263/.320/.492 with a career-high .813 OPS, career-high 28 home runs, 87 RBI and 87 runs scored in 568 plate appearances and 138 games with the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres in 2022. It's tough to envision Drury being more valuable in mixed leagues than he was last year, especially with playing time a concern in LA.

Fri Mar 17 202320:55Brandon Drury Expected To Be Fine
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Brandon Drury (calf) was removed early during Friday's spring training contest. The right-handed slugger was pulled out of the game after fouling a ball off his calf. It sounds like his removal from the game was precautionary and Drury should be fine going forward. The expectation is that Drury will be back in the lineup for Saturday's game. Fantasy managers shouldn't have to worry here as it appears Drury is dealing with a very minor injury.

Wed Dec 21 202200:06Angels, Brandon Drury Reach Two-Year Deal
The Los Angeles Angels and free-agent second/third baseman Brandon Drury agreed to a two-year, $17 million contract Tuesday, per MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. The 30-year-old had a breakout 2022 season with the Reds and Padres, slashing .263/.320/.492 with 28 home runs and 87 RBI, although he did taper off after joining the Padres. He particularly hit well against left-handed pitching, batting .299 with 12 home runs in 155 plate appearances. Drury's role in a bolstered Angels infield remains to be seen, but he could be at least a useful later-round fantasy pick as long as he can continue to hit for power.

Fri Oct 21 202218:38Josh Bell Sitting Friday Against A Lefty
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell will retreat to the bench for Game 3 of the NLCS against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. With lefty Ranger Suarez on the bump, manager Bob Melvin has decided to go with Brandon Drury at DH and Wil Myers at first base. Bell is a switch-hitter, but Drury and Myers have both mashed left-handed pitching this season, leaving Bell no spot to fit into. He could be used as a pinch-hitter against either a right or lefty late in the game, which is a nice option for the Padres to have. Bell is just 6-for-27 but does have two homers this postseason. Expect him to continue sitting against lefties for the remainder of the playoffs.

Sat Oct 8 202218:07Brandon Drury In Padres Lineup Saturday
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Drury will slide into the lineup Saturday in game two of their series against the New York Mets. Drury will be the designated hitter and bat sixth against Jacob deGrom. The 30-year-old sat out last night's game as Wil Myers got the start, but manager Bob Melvin likes Drury better in tonight's matchup. The rest of the Padres lineup remains the same as they try to finish off the Mets.

Fri Oct 7 202217:19Wil Myers In Padres Lineup For Game 1, Brandon Drury Sitting
San Diego Padres outfielder/first baseman Wil Myers is in the starting lineup for Game 1 of their series against the New York Mets and Max Scherzer, playing first base and hitting sixth for the Friars. Myers starting means that trade-deadline acquisition Brandon Drury is on the bench for Game 1. Drury had been playing regularly with the Padres but slashed just .238/.290/.435 after the trade. Myers slashed .261/.315/.398 on the season, so their numbers are fairly comparable. Myers had also been hot his past few games, going 4-for-11 (.364) with two homers in his last three games, and he has good career numbers vs. Scherzer. Both may have played into the decision to play him. Expect both Myers and Drury to receive playing time in this series.

Mon Sep 5 202219:00Padres Place Brandon Drury On Seven-Day Injured List
The San Diego Padres placed infielder Brandon Drury (head) on the seven-day concussion injured list on Monday and activated catcher Jorge Alfaro (knee) from the injured list in a corresponding move. Drury left the game early last Friday against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers after getting hit in the head, and he'll now miss at least the next week. His IL stint is retroactive to Sept. 3. If he avoids any setbacks, Drury will be eligible to return this weekend in another series against the Dodgers. Alfaro went 4-for-15 with two home runs on a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso, but he's not back in the Padres lineup on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Now that he's healthy, the 29-year-old backstop will split catching duties with Austin Nola.

Mon Sep 5 202215:54Brandon Drury Still Out Monday
San Diego Padres third baseman Brandon Drury (head) remains out of the starting lineup on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Drury was hit in the head on Friday night and also sat out the final two games of the series against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday and Sunday. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. The 30-year-old has hit just .220 (22-for-100) with five home runs, 20 RBI and 15 runs scored in 27 games since being acquired from the Cincinnati Reds. Josh Bell is starting at first base and hitting cleanup on Monday against Diamondbacks right-hander Ryne Nelson, who is making his major league debut. Bell has been even worse since joining the Friars, going 19-for-105 (.181) with two homers, nine RBI, 17 runs scored and 24 strikeouts in 29 games since he was dealt from the Washington Nationals.

Sun Sep 4 202217:57Brandon Drury Remains Out On Sunday
San Diego Padres infielder Brandon Drury (head) is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was pulled out of Friday's contest after getting hit in the helmet by a pitch. Drury hasn't played since then, so hopefully this isn't anything too serious. Josh Bell will serve as the designated hitter, while Wil Myers covers first base against lefty Caleb Ferguson. Fantasy managers should consider Drury to be day-to-day until further notice.

Sat Sep 3 202221:27Brandon Drury Remains Sidelined With A Head Contusion
San Diego Padres third baseman Brandon Drury (head) is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. According to Padres manager Bob Melvin, Drury sustained a "little head contusion" during Friday's game against the Dodgers. The 30-year-old will miss at least one game and remains day-to-day. Since being traded to the Padres, Drury is hitting .220 with five home runs, 20 RBI, and 15 runs over 27 games. Josh Bell will start at first base, while Jurickson Profar will serve as the team's designated hitter on Saturday.

Sat Sep 3 202211:05Brandon Drury Dealing With Head Contusion
San Diego Padres third baseman Brandon Drury (head) was removed from the game early on Friday night against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers with a "little head contusion," according to skipper Bob Melvin. The Padres wanted to be proactive in pulling him on Friday, and they'll know more after he undergoes some testing on Saturday. The 30-year-old was hit in the head by a pitch in a scary moment in the top of the sixth inning, but he initially stayed in the game. He'll likely have to clear the league's concussion protocol if he's to be in the starting lineup on Saturday against Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias. Drury hasn't been as good as he was with the Cincinnati Reds in his 27 games with the Friars, as he's gone 22-for-100 (.220) with five home runs, 20 RBI and 15 runs scored.

Wed Aug 17 202215:14Brandon Drury Hitting Cleanup Against Marlins
San Diego Padres third baseman Brandon Drury is starting at third base and is hitting cleanup on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins and right-hander Pablo Lopez. It is the first time that Drury has hit cleanup all year, and he's mostly been hitting fifth since he was traded to the Padres at the Aug. 2 deadline. The 29-year-old is having a career year, slashing .268/.328/.513 with an .841 OPS, 23 home runs, 72 RBI, 69 runs scored and two stolen bases in 396 at-bats. He's struggled so far in his time with San Diego, though, going 10-for-46 (.217) with three home runs, 13 RBI and seven runs scored in 13 games played.

Thu Aug 4 202213:44Brandon Drury Hits Grand Slam In Padres Debut
San Diego Padres infielder Brandon Drury made his team debut on Wednesday, and he started out with a bang, launching a first-inning grand slam off Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chad Kuhl in a 9-1 victory. Drury figures to receive steady playing time for San Diego, though it could come all over the diamond in a much deeper lineup than his old Reds team had. He stands to receive a bit of a fantasy boost in his new setup, but his .864 OPS, 21 homers, 63 runs scored, and 63 RBI is already an excellent pace.

Wed Aug 3 202218:10Brandon Drury To Serve As Designated Hitter
San Diego Padres infielder Brandon Drury is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The veteran slugger was acquired by the Padres at the trade deadline on Tuesday. Although, the acquisition of Drury was overshadowed by the addition of Juan Soto and Josh Bell. Fantasy managers shouldn't overlook the impact that Drury can make in the lineup. He's hitting .274 with 20 home runs and 59 RBI through 92 games. Drury will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth versus right-hander Chad Kuhl on Wednesday. Fantasy managers will likely see Drury's value drop in San Diego, but he'll be starting for this game.

Tue Aug 2 202216:37Padres Acquire Brandon Drury From The Reds
The San Diego Padres are acquiring infielder Brandon Drury from the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday, according to sources. It's unclear what the Padres sent to the Reds in exchange. Drury has seen the vast majority of his playing time in Cincinnati this year on the infield, mainly at the hot corner, but he has experience in the outfield as well. The 29-year-old has had a late-career resurgence in 2022, hitting .274/.335/.520 with a career-high 20 home runs, 59 RBI, 62 runs scored and two stolen bases in 385 plate appearances and 92 games. The move to San Diego isn't good news at all for Drury's fantasy value the rest of the way, as he'll be blocked at third by Manny Machado and at second base by Jake Cronenworth, but perhaps he'll see semi-regular at-bats in the outfield, where he has some experience as well.

Mon Aug 1 202211:46Brandon Drury Not Certain To Be Traded
Cincinnati Reds infielder Brandon Drury, who is drawing interest from multiple teams at the trade deadline, isn't certain to be traded this summer. The Reds might be interested in exploring an extension with Drury, who turns 30 on Aug. 21 and hit his career-high 20th home run as a pinch-hitter on Sunday. The Reds could also trade him and re-sign him as a free agent in the offseason, too. But if they deal him, they would lose their right to negotiate with him exclusively until the market opens. The 29-year-old is having a late-career resurgence in Cincinnati in 2022, hitting .275/.336/.523 with an .859 OPS, 20 round-trippers, 59 RBI, 62 runs scored and two stolen bases in 381 plate appearances over 91 games.

Sun Jul 31 202219:29Brandon Drury Has Hot Trade Market
Cincinnati Reds third baseman Brandon Drury has a surprisingly hot trade market heading into the deadline. The 29-year-old is having a breakout year with the Reds. Drury is slashing .275/.336/.523 with 20 homers and 59 RBI in 380 plate appearances. As of right now, the Dodgers, Mariners, and Braves are all reportedly interested in Drury. He will hit free agency at the end of the season, so there is no reason for the Reds to keep him. Fantasy managers should expect Drury to be moved before the trade deadline ends. Although, his fantasy value could take a hit if he lands on a team where he doesn't get regular at-bats anymore.

Sun Jul 31 202211:15Brandon Drury On The Bench Against Orioles
Cincinnati Reds third baseman Brandon Drury is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles. Drury will take a normal day of rest after going 8-for-36 (.222) with a homer, six RBI and five runs scored in nine games since the All-Star break. On the season, he's hitting .272/.332/.513 with an .845 OPS, 19 home runs, 58 RBI, 61 runs scored and two stolen bases in 345 at-bats. Drury is a prime trade candidate with the deadline coming on Aug. 2. Donovan Solano is starting at third base on Sunday and is hitting second against Orioles right-hander Austin Voth. Solano will be a DFS sleeper worth considering. He's gone 10-for-23 (.435) with a homer and seven RBI in seven games over the last two weeks.
