Sun May 1 202212:41Noah Syndergaard Unsure When He'll Make Next Start
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (illness) said he's feeling better on Sunday and will throw a bullpen session, but he's uncertain when he'll make his next start after being scratched from his scheduled start on Friday against the Chicago White Sox due to a non-COVID-19-related illness. Patrick Sandoval is slated to pitch on Monday against the Boston Red Sox and Shohei Ohtani is scheduled for Tuesday, but the Angels could move Ohtani back a day and give Syndergaard the start on Tuesday. Thor has been great in his first year in LA through three starts, allowing only four earned runs on 10 hits while walking four and striking out 11 in 17 innings pitched. Boston would represent a tough matchup, but Syndergaard has been a must-start so far in 2022.

Sun Apr 24 202200:28Noah Syndergaard Solid Once Again Saturday
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard continued his excellent start to the season Saturday, pitching 5.2 innings with six strikeouts, two walks, and allowed two runs on three hits. He's 2-0 on the season but couldn't secure the victory in the 5-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Over 11.1 innings, Syndergaard owns a 2.12 ERA with 11 strikeouts, four walks, and a 0.82 WHIP during his first campaign in Anaheim. The 29-year-old has dealt with numerous injuries during his career and pitched in just two games last year after recovering from Tommy John surgery. Syndergaard's always had great stuff and potential, so as long as he stays on the field, fantasy managers can expect him to keep producing good numbers.

Sun Apr 10 202200:20Noah Syndergaard Victorious In Angels Debut
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard picked up his first major-league win in over two years on Saturday as his club defeated the Astros 2-0. The right-hander tossed 76 pitches over 5 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed just two walks and a pair of singles, generating 11 ground-ball outs in an impressive outing versus a formidable lineup. The only complaint would be that he struck out just one batter, but since he's thrown only two innings since 2019, the tradeoff is worthwhile. There's always injury risk that surrounds Syndergaard, but as long as the 29-year-old is on the mound, he should put up strong fantasy numbers this season. He'll face the Rangers in Texas next weekend where managers should start him with confidence.

Tue Nov 16 202110:49Angels Agree With Noah Syndergaard
The Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Noah Syndergaard agreed to a one-year, $21 million deal on Tuesday, pending a physical, according to sources. The Angels make one of the biggest splashes in free agency with a high-upside power arm and give up a second-round pick to the New York Mets after they extended Thor a qualifying offer. The 29-year-old has missed most of the last two seasons after having Tommy John surgery in March of 2020. Right elbow inflammation set him back in June of this year, and he made just two one-inning appearances in the final week of the season. Syndergaard made just 32 starts in 2017 and 2018 due to injuries as well, and he had a 4.28 ERA with a league-high 94 earned runs allowed in 2019. When healthy, he's one of the hardest-throwing starters with plenty of strikeout upside, but he's a high-risk, high-reward signing for the Halos.

Sat Nov 6 202119:36Michael Conforto, Noah Syndergaard Receive Qualifying Offers
The New York Mets extended qualifying offers to both outfielder Michael Conforto and starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard on Saturday for one year and $18.4 million. Syndergaard has missed the majority of the last two seasons after having Tommy John surgery in 2020 and experiencing a setback due to elbow inflammation. But before his injury, he was a Cy Young candidate with some of the hardest and nastiest stuff in the majors. There's a chance that Thor could accept the offer in hopes of rebounding with a healthy season and then capitalizing on the free-agent market next year. Conforto, an All-Star in 2017, hit just .232/.344/.384 with 14 home runs and 55 RBI in 406 at-bats over 125 games for the Mets in 2021.

Tue Sep 28 202122:36Noah Syndergaard Fires Scoreless Inning In 2021 Debut
New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard struck out two batters over one inning during a 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. The 29-year-old returned to the mound for the first time since 2019 after recovering from Tommy John surgery and several setbacks. The 2016 All-Star threw 10 pitches (nine strikes) during his one inning of work. When healthy, Thor's upside is one of the best pitchers in baseball, posting a 3.31 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 9.7 K/9 during his first five seasons in the majors. 2022 will be an interesting season for Syndergaard, as the free agent could have a new home.

Tue Sep 21 202121:15Noah Syndergaard Begins Rehab Wednesday
New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) is starting a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. He's missed the past two seasons after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He was in line to return earlier in the year but faced multiple setbacks in his recovery. It's probably too late in the season to stretch him out as a starter, so expect to see Syndergaard in the Mets bullpen. During his last season in 2019, Syndergaard posted a 4.28 ERA, 24.5 K% and 1.23 WHIP. There's no way to know how he'll will perform when he returns, but he's safe to leave on the wire as a reliever.

Tue Sep 14 202118:10Noah Syndergaard Will Face Live Batters On Wednesday
New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) will face live batters on Wednesday, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reported. The 29-year-old ace has faced multiple setbacks this season as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery, most recently being shut down in August after he tested positive for COVID-19. Although there is still a very slight chance fans could see Syndergaard before the end of the season, he won't have any kind of fantasy impact with only a couple of weeks left in the regular season.

Mon Sep 13 202118:35Noah Syndergaard To Face Batters In A Few Days
New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) is scheduled to pitch to live batters in a couple of days, according to Mets manager Luis Rojas. The 29-year-old is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and has had multiple complications along the way. Most recently, he was scratched from a rehab start after testing positive for COVID-19. If he can avoid any further setbacks, there's a chance we'll see Syndergaard back with the Mets in a few weeks. However, it's very unlikely that he'll be able to help fantasy managers at all before the end of the regular season.

Sun Aug 29 202111:48Noah Syndergaard To Miss Rehab Start Sunday
New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) will not make his second rehab start on Sunday for Single-A Brooklyn due to a non-baseball-related injury, according to Mets manager Luis Rojas. Mets beat reporter Deesha Thosar indicates that Syndergaard has tested positive for COVID-19. Syndergaard last pitched one inning in a rehab assignment for Single-A Brooklyn on Thursday and, following the game, Syndergaard revealed that he had been instructed by doctors to not throw any sliders for the rest of 2021. Should Syndergaard be forced to miss considerable time due to the COVID-19 diagnosis, Syndergaard's recovery timeline will get pushed back and seriously call into question his ability to rejoin the Mets in September as a member of the bullpen. Even if he does make it back to the team, his fantasy value will be extremely limited making him a non-factor in all formats for 2021.

Fri Aug 27 202111:40Noah Syndergaard Instructed Not To Throw Sliders
New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) pitched one inning in a rehab assignment for Single-A Brooklyn on Thursday, allowing a leadoff home run and also hitting a batter. Syndergaard only threw fastballs and changeups in his one inning of work. Following the game, Syndergaard revealed that he has been instructed by doctors to not throw any sliders for the rest of 2021. They believe sliders are what caused his setback in May. This would also suggest that Syndergaard will shy away from throwing any curveballs for the remainder of 2021, due to a similar torque on his arm. If Syndergaard doesn't suffer any more setbacks, he could potentially rejoin the Mets in September and get work out of the bullpen. That said, Thursday's news certainly calls into question how effective he would be simply throwing (and disclosing that he will only throw) two pitches. Even if he returns in September, it is likely Syndergaard will have very limited work and will not generate much fantasy value.

Wed Aug 25 202118:06Noah Syndergaard To Start Rehab Stint Tomorrow
New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported. Syndergaard has been shelved all season as he rebounds from having Tommy John surgery in March 2020 and has suffered a few setbacks in his rehab along the way. If the 28-year-old right-hander doesn't run into any more setbacks, he could potentially rejoin the Mets in September and get work out of the bullpen. Even if he returns, however, he will likely get limited work and won't hold much fantasy value.

Sat Aug 21 202115:05Noah Syndergaard Throws Live Batting Practice On Saturday
New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) threw live batting practice on Saturday at Dodger Stadium to shortstop Francisco Lindor (oblique) and second baseman Luis Guillorme (hamstring). Syndergaard stated that that ball was coming out well. Syndergaard suffered a setback in May during his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but assuming he has no setbacks from Saturday's session, a rehab assignment may be imminent. Nonetheless, a best-case scenario for Syndergaard remains a return to the Mets in mid-September. If he does return, Syndergaard will likely be used out of the bullpen, limiting any potential fantasy value he can provide to managers for a stretch run or fantasy playoffs.

Tue Aug 17 202119:44Noah Syndergaard Throws Simulated Inning Tuesday
New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) threw a simulated inning on Tuesday, according to Tim Healey of Newsday Sports. Syndergaard faced shortstop Francisco Lindor and Luis Guillorme, as he pitched to live batters for the first time since May, throwing 15-20 pitches all of which were fastballs and changeups. Syndergaard suffered a setback back in May during his recovery from Tommy John surgery, and now his best case scenario seems to be a return in mid-September. Previous reports have stated that Syndergaard will likely be used out of the bullpen upon his return, so it's unlikely he'll have a significant impact in fantasy this year.

Tue Aug 10 202119:41Noah Syndergaard Likely To Be Used As Reliever
New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) will likely be used in a relief role when he's able to return to action, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. General Manager Zack Scott said of Syndergaard that, "Getting him back in September in a role where he can help the club in relief would be a good thing for us to do," as he has been out all season long while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Syndergaard had suffered a setback in his rehab back in May, and while there had been hope for fantasy managers that he could return and have an impact as a starter down the playoff stretch, his value is now just about completely shot for 2021 if this plan holds. He can be worth looking at in SV/HLD formats when he returns, but otherwise in most redraft formats he can be left on the waiver wire.

Sat Jul 24 202104:03LEADING OFF: Indians changing team name to Guardians
A look at what's happening around the majors today: ___ GUARDIANS OF THE GAME After more than 100 years, the Cleveland Indians are getting a new name — the team will be called the Guardians next season. The name change, which has its supporters and critics among Cleveland’s fan base, ends months of internal discussions triggered by a national reckoning for institutions and teams to drop logos and names considered racist. “We do feel like we’re doing the right thing and that’s what’s driving this,” club owner Paul Dolan said Friday. “I know some people disagree, but if anything I’ve gotten more and more comfortable that we’re headed in the right direction.” The organization spent most of the past year whittling down a list of potential names that was at nearly 1,200. Cleveland’s new name was inspired by the large landmark stone edifices — referred to as traffic guardians — that flank both ends of the Hope Memorial Bridge, which connects downtown to Ohio City. Fri Jul 23 202120:23Mets acquire left-hander Rich Hill from Rays
NEW YORK (AP) — The pitching-thin New York Mets on Friday acquired left-hander Rich Hill from the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays got right-hander Tommy Hunter and minor league catcher Matt Dyer in return. The 41-year-old Hill is 6-4 with a 3.89 ERA in 19 starts for the contending Rays. “I think a lot of people in the game know the name — guy that’s been around, pitching good baseball, pitching playoff baseball,” Mets manager Luis Rojas said. “It’s a great fit, great acquisition. Our front office is being diligent. One of the needs we’ve talked about is our starting pitching need and this is a guy that fits right in.” New York started the day with a four-game division lead over Philadelphia and Atlanta despite a banged-up rotation. Ace Jacob deGrom and starter David Peterson are on the injured list. Starters Noah Syndergaard and Carlos Carrasco haven’t pitched this year while recovering from injuries. Rojas said he didn’t know yet when Hill could slot into the Mets’ rotation. New York does not... [More]
