RHP Masahiro Tanaka set a career high with 15 strikeouts when he retired the first 14 hitters and allowed three hits in seven innings Friday. It was the seventh game with at least 15 strikeouts by a Yankee starter and first since RHP Michael Pineda fanned 16 on May 10, 2015, against the Baltimore Orioles. He also is the first Yankee with at least 14 strikeouts in multiple starts in their tenure with the team. The others are RHP David Cone and LHP Ron Guidry. RHP Masahiro Tanaka allowed eight runs (seven earned) on six hits that included three homers and three walks in the 8-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. He has allowed seven earned runs in two of his past three starts. He is 4-7 with a 6.48 ERA on the road this season and is 12-12 with a 4.94 ERA overall. "I just didn't have good command," he said through an interpreter. "I was able to locate some of my pitches but the ones I wasn't able to, I felt like I really got hurt by them. It's very disappointing. We're here toward the end of the season and I understand how important these games are. You want to go out there and perform."
