NEW YORK (AP) — Ronald Guzman became the first rookie to hit three home runs in a game against the Yankees, powering the Texas Rangers past New York 12-7 on Friday night.Eight days after Boston's Steve Pearce connected three times off the Yankees, Guzman duplicated the feat in ending New York's four-game winning streak.Guzman grounded out his first time up, then hit solo home runs in three straight at-bats. The 23-year-old first baseman batted again in the eighth with a chance to tie the big league record for homers in a game — no rookie has ever hit four — but struck out swinging against Chad Green.Guzman's two homers off Masahiro Tanaka (9-3) and one off A.J. Cole made him the first Texas player to hit three home runs in a game since Adrian Beltre in 2012.Overall, Guzman has 12 home runs this season, six against the Yankees.Beltre also joined in the fun with his seventh homer of the season, tying recent Hall of Fame inductee Chipper Jones for the 33rd spot on baseball's career list with... ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Star outfielder Mike Trout was put on the 10-day disabled list Friday because of an inflamed right wrist, a move that Los Angeles Angels had hoped to avoid.Manager Mike Scioscia sounded confident that Trout's stay on the DL would not be extended beyond the minimum time. The Angels head out on a road trip to San Diego and Texas after the weekend."We anticipate him being back when his DL is up," Scioscia said. "Definitely in Texas he is going to play (Thursday), so most likely he will travel (to San Diego). The treatment he is getting is easy to administer."The move was retroactive to Monday, when Trout received a cortisone injection in his wrist. The two-time AL MVP has missed seven consecutive games. The 27-year-old Trout is batting .309 with 30 home runs and 60 RBIs. He leads the majors with a .459 on-base percentage.Trout hasn't played since Aug. 1, when he hurt his wrist during a feet-first slide into third base in Tampa Bay.Trout was out for 39 games last season after tearing a ligament in his left thumb in a headfirst slide.Scioscia initially didn't think Trout would need to go on the DL. He said Friday there should be no long-term ramifications from the injury.___More AP baseball: https://apnews.com/tag/MLBbaseball and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

DENVER (AP) — Kenley Jansen spent the day in the doctor's office getting checked out for an irregular heartbeat. The conclusion: Nothing definitive yet.The Los Angeles Dodgers closer was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday and manager Dave Roberts wasn't sure if his absence would be 10 days or possibly even closer to a month — like it was when the right-hander landed on the DL for the same thing seven years ago."I'm hoping as soon as I can to get something, just for my peace of mind, the guys on the field — our peace of mind," Roberts said. "His health is most important. Whatever they have to do, the doctors have to do, to protect him."I know there are things out there as far as a timeline. I haven't heard definitive as far as any time."Jansen was at the hotel before the game Thursday against the Colorado Rockies and didn't feel right. BALTIMORE (AP) — The reshaping of the Baltimore Orioles took another significant turn Friday when longtime center fielder Adam Jones was moved to right field to make room for rookie Cedric Mullins.Jones has started in center for Baltimore since his arrival in 2008. The 33-year-old played the position well enough this year, but the last-place Orioles are ready to try someone younger and faster in the middle of the outfield.Manager Buck Showalter called Jones "one of the great center fielders in Oriole history," but said the 12-year veteran has known for a while that the switch was coming."It had to be the right guy," Showalter said. "We think Cedric might be the right guy."The 23-year-old Mullins had his contract selected from Triple-A Norfolk and was immediately inserted into the starting lineup against Boston. He was to play center field and bat ninth in his big league debut. This is not a one-day experiment."Adam will play right and Cedric will play center. That's the way I perceive it,"... [More]

Fantasy baseball trade deadlines have either passed or are about to pass and even this deep into the season, there's still value on many waiver wires. Here are a few players that can help you in the long and short term.PLAYERS TO PICK UPRYAN MADSON, RP, Washington Nationals (20 percent owned in CBS Sports leagues) — Madson's season long peripheral stats may not impress, but with Kelvin Herrera on the DL, he'll temporarily take over as closer. Madson has experience closing out games and could provide a few weeks of save opportunities. Bid aggressively if you want to grab him off the waiver wire.RANDALL GRICHUK, OF, Toronto Blue Jays (28 percent) — Some considered Grichuk a deep sleeper coming into the 2018 season but he slumped early on. By July 13 he had a .199 batting average. He's turned things around since then, batting .310 with five homers and 14 RBIs. He probably won't continue to hit for high average, but his power bat could help you down the stretch.MANUEL MARGOT, OF, San Diego... [More]
