Wed Aug 16 202316:24Matt Chapman Still Out Wednesday
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman (finger) remains out of action on Wednesday against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. Santiago Espinal will make another start at the hot corner for Toronto and will hit eighth in the batting order against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. Due to inflammation in his right middle finger, the Jays have held Chapman out since last Saturday. If the 30-year-old is unable to return on Friday for the start of a series against the Cincinnati Reds after an off day on Thursday, he might be in danger of going on the injured list. Chapman hasn't done anything special in 2023, but he remains an everyday player (when healthy) in a potent lineup. He currently sits with a .255 average (108-for-423) with 15 long balls, 49 RBI, three stolen bases and 60 runs scored.

Tue Aug 15 202316:31Matt Chapman Remains Out Against Phillies
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman (finger) remains out of the starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. Santiago Espinal is filling in at the hot corner and will hit eighth in the lineup against Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler. Chapman is dealing with inflammation in his right middle finger. He was scratched from Sunday's lineup and will remain out after Monday's scheduled off day. It doesn't sound like anything too serious, so the 30-year-old should be considered day-to-day this week. Chapman is Toronto's regular third baseman when healthy and he's currently hitting .255/.346/.449 with 15 home runs, 49 RBI, three stolen bases and 60 runs scored in 423 at-bats. He's cooled off so far in August, going 10-for-44 (.227) with only one homer, five RBI and three runs scored in 12 games (11 starts).

Sun Aug 13 202313:29Matt Chapman Scratched With Finger Inflammation
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman (finger) has been scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Chicago Cubs with right middle finger inflammation. It looks like the Jays are being extra cautious with the veteran third baseman as this doesn't sound overly serious. After a hot start to the season, Chapman has really slowed down over the last few months. His overall numbers are still solid, however, with a .255/.246/.449 with 15 home runs, 49 RBI, and three stolen bases over 423 at-bats. Santiago Espinal is taking over at third base in Chapman's absence.

Tue Aug 8 202317:28Matt Chapman Retreats To The Bench
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman will start Tuesday's contest against the Cleveland Guardians on the bench. It's a normal day of rest after he went hitless in four at-bats on Monday with two strikeouts against Cleveland. Santiago Espinal will draw the start at the hot corner and will hit eighth for the Jays against Guardians rookie right-hander Tanner Bibee. The month of August hasn't gotten off to a great start for Chapman, as he's gone 6-for-28 (.214) with a homer, two doubles, five RBI and three runs scored in seven starts. None of the 30-year-old's season-long numbers really stand out at the third base position in fantasy, but he remains an everyday player for a strong offense, which counts for something.

Sat Aug 5 202310:16Matt Chapman Belts 15th Homer In Win
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, and a walk in Friday's 7-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox. The 30-year-old doubled in the third inning and walked during the fifth frame before cracking a ninth-inning insurance homer. Chapman has cooled off dramatically after being April's Player of the Month, slashing an ordinary. 214/.314/.386 with 10 four-baggers and 25 RBI over 295 at-bats since May 1. Even so, the former All-Star remains in front of the AL in doubles (34) overall.

Thu Jun 22 202301:59Matt Chapman Smacks 10th Homer In Victory
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Miami Marlins. Chapman has strung together consecutive multi-hit outings, but April's AL Player of the Month has noticeably quieted down following an electrifying start. After launching five long balls in 26 games during his sizzling April, it took the 30-year-old 46 more contests to crack another five big flies. Chapman's hard-hit rate still lies amongst baseball's best sluggers and his .269 BA is firmly above his norm. The dynamic defender next gets the Oakland Athletics for a three-game weekend set. Chapman wrecked his former team during 2022, going 8-for-20 with three round-trippers and six RBI in six games against them.

Wed Jun 7 202317:15Matt Chapman Returns From Toe Injury
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman (toe) is starting at third base and is batting fifth in the lineup on Wednesday against right-hander Ronel Blanco and the Houston Astros. Chapman had in infected and ingrown toenail removed on Monday and sat out of Tuesday's contest, but he'll be back on Wednesday for fantasy managers. The 30-year-old is having a very fine season in his second year in Toronto in 2023, as he's currently slashing .281/.362/.487 with an .849 OPS, a league-leading 22 doubles, eight home runs, 30 RBI and 32 runs scored in 60 games played. He's not off to a great start in five games in June, going 3-for-16 (.188) with a homer and two RBI, but Chapman deserves to be in starting lineups on a regular basis.

Tue Jun 6 202317:52Matt Chapman Not Starting On Tuesday
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman (toe) is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros. He is being held out after having an infected ingrown toenail removed. Manager John Schneider said this should be a one-game absence, so fantasy managers should expect Chapman back on Wednesday. In the meantime, Santiago Espinal will play third base and bat ninth versus right-hander Hunter Brown on Tuesday.

Wed May 24 202313:26Matt Chapman Smashes Second Homer In As Many Days
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base in the team's 20-1 demolition of the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. Following a 28-game homer-less skid, Chapman has now gone yard on consecutive occasions. It's a signal that the slugger's fantasy buy-low window is starting to shut. The 30-year-old still leads the majors with a smoking 62.5% hard-hit rate despite the recent power outage. Chapman, April's Player of the Month award winner, also led MLB in doubles (15), wOBA (.486), and wins above replacement (2.0) over his initial 27 games. In May, however, the three-time Gold Glover is hitting just .205 with a .605 OPS and six RBI across 21 games.

Fri Apr 14 202316:18Matt Chapman Back On Friday
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman (illness) is back in the starting lineup on Friday against right-hander Drew Rasmussen and the undefeated Tampa Bay Rays. Chapman is at the hot corner and is hitting fifth in the batting order. The 29-year-old was scratched from Thursday's lineup with an illness, but he's obviously feeling good enough to return a day later. Fantasy managers should be getting Chapman back into their starting lineups in all formats, as he's gone an absurd 23-for-47 (.489) with eight doubles, three home runs, 15 RBI, a stolen base and 10 runs scored in his first 12 games of the 2023 campaign.

Thu Apr 13 202321:08Matt Chapman Dealing With Illness
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman is currently dealing with a viral illness, hence why he was scratched from Thursday's lineup. There's no word on how much time the former Gold Glover will need, but he likely won't be out for too long. Chapman is enjoying a hot start to his second campaign in Toronto, slashing .489/.538/.851 with three home runs, 10 runs, 15 RBI, and one stolen base across 12 contests. He obviously can't keep those numbers up throughout the whole year, but he has a chance to improve on his 2022 season when he hit .229, albeit with 27 bombs.

Mon Apr 10 202300:52Matt Chapman Hits Grand Slam, Steals Base Sunday
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman continued his absurd start to the season on Sunday, going 3-for-5 with a home run, stolen base, two runs scored, and five RBI. The home run was a grand slam that put the Jays within two at the time and sparked an eventual comeback. Chapman now owns a ridiculous .475 AVG to go along with two homers, seven runs scored, 14 RBI, and a stolen base. He has been one of the best players in fantasy so far this season, and has paid dividends to those who waited on a third baseman and took him in the mid-rounds of the draft.

Sun Apr 9 202314:58Matt Chapman Continues Hot Start With First Home Run
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman hit his first home run of the season on Saturday. Fantasy managers have to be happy with his play to open the season and will welcome this home run to his hot start. Chapman has a .457/.500/.743 slash line with one home run and nine RBI. He continues to hit fourth in the lineup and can put up big numbers in this potent lineup.

Fri Mar 31 202312:26Matt Chapman Picks Up Three Hits On Opening Day
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a strikeout in a wild 10-9, come-from-behind win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday on Opening Day. Chapman hit seventh in Toronto's batting order on a day in which the team racked up 19 hits total. The 29-year-old was also caught stealing. Fantasy managers would prefer if Chapman was hitting higher in this potent lineup, but he should still have plenty of opportunities to drive in runs in 2023 and rack up counting stats for fantasy managers. His greatest asset could be his ability to stay on the field for his fantasy managers.

Sat Jul 30 202211:38Matt Chapman Hits His 19th Home Run
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, one walk and a strikeout in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers to continue his recent power surge. He has now hit three home runs in the last two games and is currently riding a modest eight-game hitting streak to raise his season slash line to .246/.323/.474 with 19 home runs, 55 RBI, 55 runs scored and a stolen base in 371 plate appearances over 94 games. He's been great in the month of July, going 25-for-78 (.321) with eight home runs, 20 RBI and 15 runs scored in 23 games. Needless to say, Chapman needs to be in your fantasy lineups during his hot stretch at the plate.

Sat Jul 16 202200:22Matt Chapman Homers For Second Straight Day
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman was among the offensive leaders against the Kansas City Royals Friday, going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and a run scored. It's his second straight day with a long ball, and he now has 15 on the season. Chapman is no longer the offensive performer he once was, but he still has plenty of pop, and eight of those 15 home runs have come in his last 30 games. With a .728 OPS, 45 runs scored, and 45 RBI, Chapman could be an acquirable piece for fantasy teams in need of a slugging boost.

Sun Jul 10 202213:09Matt Chapman Sitting Out On Sunday
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman is sitting out Sunday's series finale against the Seattle Mariners. This is just a routine day off for the veteran third baseman, who has struggled to the tune of a .196/.232/.392 triple-slash line over his last 15 contests. Santiago Espinal is manning the hot corner and batting seventh in Chapman's place as the Jays look to avoid getting swept.

Sat Jul 2 202218:00Matt Chapman Strikes Out Twice Saturday
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman went 0-for-4 on Saturday with two strikeouts in the 6-2 loss against the Tampa Bay Rays. He's been in a slump as of late, slashing .174/.208/.348 over his last seven games. On the season, Chapman's batting just .220 with 11 HRs, 35 RBI, 40 runs, and no stolen bases across 73 games. It's the third season in a row that the 29-year-old has produced a sub-.240 batting average. Fantasy managers need a little more than above-average power from Chapman, so they can keep him on the bench in shallow leagues until he provides more.

Thu Jun 16 202214:00George Springer, Matt Chapman Out Thursday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer and third baseman Matt Chapman (wrist) are not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles. Springer has a scheduled day off, while Chapman is out because his right wrist is bothering him again, according to manager Charlie Montoyo. Raimel Tapia is in center field and batting sixth, while Santiago Espinal is playing the hot corner and hitting leadoff on Thursday against Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells. Chapman hit homers on Tuesday and Wednesday, but he was out for three straight games before that with right wrist soreness, so it's something to watch. Espinal will be a solid DFS target on Thursday, as he's hitting .298/.350/.451 with an .801 OPS, five homers, 31 RBI, 25 runs scored and three stolen bases on the season.

Sun Jun 12 202211:06Matt Chapman Won't Play Against Tigers
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman (wrist) is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers. Chapman also missed the game on Saturday with a wrist issue that has been bothering him of late. With Chapman out again, Santiago Espinal will get the start at third base and will hit sixth against Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal. On the season, Chapman is slashing just .216/.305/.371 with seven home runs, 23 RBI and 27 runs scored in 220 plate appearances and 56 games played. Espinal won't be a terrible low-cost DFS option on Sunday. He's gone 16-for-42 (.381) with three home runs and 10 RBI so far in June and is hitting a respectable .287 this year with five long balls and 28 RBI in 223 plate appearances.
