Last year, the 33-year-old averaged 91.6 mph on his fastball despite chronic hip, back and neck problems. But during a five-inning bullpen session March 15 against minor league batters, Kazmir averaged only 82-83 mph, threw just 44 strikes in 71 pitches and allowed two home runs. Kazmir returned to the mound Sunday against the Texas Rangers but hit two batters and walked five in five innings.
