Victorino (calf) began his rehabilitation assignment Wednesday night, going 0-for-2 while playing five uneventful innings in right field for Triple-A Pawtucket. The plan calls for Victorino to play again Thursday for the PawSox.
The Red Sox are not putting a timetable on his rehab, but manager John Farrell told the Providence Journal that it's unlikely he joins the team on its next road trip which lasts through July 2. Farrell wants to see Victorino play nine innings on multiple and consecutive days.

Victorino (calf) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Scott Lauber of the Boston Globe reports.
Victorino has been gradually increasing his activity since hitting the DL nearly a month ago, and he made it through baserunning drills over the weekend without issue. It's unclear how long the veteran's rehab stint will last, but the struggling Red Sox are unlikely to rush him back.

Victorino (calf) will do some base-running drills over the weekend and be further evaluated, the Boston Globe reports.
Victorino has been on the verge of heading out on a rehab assignment for, it seems, the past two weeks, but the Red Sox continue to take it slowly with him. And really, there should be no rush. Boston has several bodies looking for at-bats in right field -- Rusney Castillo and Brock Holt head that list. Also, if the Red Sox continue to slosh around below .500, it makes little sense to give plate appearances to Victorino when guys like Castillo or Jackie Bradley could use them for development.
Wed Jun 17 201517:18Victorino (calf) could begin rehab assignment by end of week
Victorino (calf) could begin a rehab assignment by the end of the week, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
The Red Sox have been cautious with Victorino's calf injury, so it would seem he is nearly back at 100 percent if he is set to begin a rehab assignment shortly. Boston's outfield is still plenty crowded, so Victorino's role upon his return is uncertain.
Wed Jun 17 201515:18 Shane Victorino: (Hamstring) Could Start Rehab Assignment This Week
Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino could begin a rehab assignment by the end of the week as he recovers from a calf injury, according to the Providence Journal.
Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino could begin a rehab assignment by the end of the week as he recovers from a calf injury, according to the Providence Journal. Victorino was initially slated to begin the assignment last week, but Red Sox manager John Farrell decided to hold him back until he was able to perform activities at full intensity. "We're trying to get him through some final stages of physical testing," Farrell said. "That's included additional intensity, a lot of change in direction. So where we thought the mid part of this week would be when he'd be out, that's probably going to be a little bit of time yet." Victorino's season has been marred by injury, as he was placed on the disabled list for the second time this season May 24 after spending more than two weeks on the disabled list because of a hamstring issue.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said they are trying to get Victorino (calf) "through the final stages of physical testing" and have delayed the outfielder's rehabilitation assignment, the Boston Globe reports. Farrell said those final stages includes additional intensity and a lot of change-of-direction.
The Red Sox are taking it slow with Victorino, who's been on the disabled list since May 24, and had tentatively planned to get him out on rehab early this week. Victorino needs to prove he can be a full-time player, capable of playing several days in a row without setback.

Victorino (calf) will need "to prove to us that there's the ability to go nine innings a couple or three days consecutively," said manager John Farrell about an impending rehab assignment for the outfielder, the Boston Herald reports.
Victorino could be sent out on assignment early next week, but Farrell sounds as if they'll take it slow with the oft-injured outfielder. He's been out since May 24 with a strained calf and had one other DL stint prior to this one.

Victorino (calf) has increased the intensity of his workout routine and running over the past week, the Boston Globe reports.
We should learn more about the timetable for Victorino's rehabilitation assignment by the end of the week.
Sun May 24 201512:39Shane Victorino: (Calf) Heads Back to DL
Victorino (calf) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
After returning from a hamstring injury May 11, Victorino lasted just under two weeks before his calf began acting up. Victorino was beginning to play well of late, but with Rusney Castillo recently called up from Triple-A Pawtucket, the Red Sox likely won't miss a beat with him unavailable. In fact, it's quite possible that Victorino won't have a starting role waiting for him when he returns from his latest DL stint if Castillo performs as expected.
Sun May 24 201510:39Shane Victorino: (Calf) Heads Back to DL
Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of a calf injury, according to USA Today.
Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of a calf injury, according to USA Today. Victorino returned from a hamstring injury May 11 but finds himself back on the shelf after less than two weeks because of the calf problem, along with a bout of general soreness that he is experiencing. It has been a frustrating season for the 34-year-old, as he has missed roughly half of Boston's games thus far and has not been especially productive when he has played. Outfield prospect Rusney Castillo was called up even before Victorino was placed on the disabled list, and could supplant the latter if he performs well over the next couple of weeks. The club has invested a lot in Castillo, so this just may be the opportunity he needs to claim the starting right field job.
Sat May 23 201520:14Shane Victorino: Renewed Calf Tightness
Victorino left Saturday's game in the third inning with left calf tightness, Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports.
A left calf injury kept Victorino out of the lineup Thursday and Friday, and the outfielder didn't even make it three full innings in his return before aggravating the issue. Mookie Betts pinch hit for Victorino, who should be considered day-to-day ahead of Sunday's series finale against the Angels.
Sat May 23 201515:28Victorino (calf) in lineup hitting second Saturday
Victorino (calf) is in the lineup hitting second Saturday, ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reports.
The 34-year-old outfielder was dealing with general body soreness Friday, but he appears to be feeling better. The two hole in Boston's lineup is a prime spot to do some damage, so Victorino should be a consideration in daily leagues.
Fri May 22 201518:00Victorino (calf) out of lineup Friday against Angels
Victorino (calf) is out of the lineup Friday against the Angels, Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston reports.
While Victorino is said be dealing with general body soreness, his left calf is the main problem area. He's merely day-to-day, but manager John Farrell suggested there will be a rotation between center field and right field moving forward with Victorino, Mookie Betts and the newly recalled Rusney Castillo all factoring in.

Victorino is dealing with "general soreness," Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports.
Victorino was scratched from Thursday's lineup, though a specific reason beyond general soreness isn't available yet. It doesn't sound as though whatever is ailing him is too serious of an issue, so Victorino should be considered day-to-day for the time being.
Thu May 21 201515:24Victorino scratched from Thursday's lineup against Rangers
Victorino was scratched from Thursday's lineup against the Rangers, Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports.
Victorino was held out of the lineup Wednesday as well, though he appeared as a pinch hitter and went 2-for-2. No reason was given for the lineup change, though some sort of update will likely become available lately on. Daniel Nava will draw the start in right field instead.
Wed May 20 201515:23Victorino not in lineup Wednesday
Victorino is not in the lineup Wednesday, the Boston Herald's Scott Lauber reports.
He should not be considered an everyday player at this point, as he typically gets a few games off per week in right field. With Rusney Castillo nearing a call-up, Victorino's playing time will only continue to trend down. Daniel Nava gets the start in right field Wednesday.
Tue May 19 201515:05Victorino not in lineup Tuesday against Rangers
Victorino is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
Victorino has actually been hitting better lately as he's collected six hits in his last four games to raise his season average to .212, but he'll be held out of the lineup for the second time in three games and the third time in six. Daniel Nava will get another start in right field in his stead.
Sat May 16 201517:37Victorino not in lineup for Saturday's game against Mariners
Victorino is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mariners, according to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald.
Victorino went 4-for-7 over his last two games, but he is still being eased back into action after recovering from a hamstring injury, and will be held out Saturday. Brock Holt will get the start in right field in Victorino's place.

Victorino went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen bag in the 2-1 loss to Seattle Friday.
This is only his third RBI and third stolen bag of the year after returning from injury just four days ago. Victorino only has 10 hits in 49 at-bats this season, but has a solid on-base percentage walking seven times to give him a .328 OBP.
