Outfielder Jurickson Profar opted out of the final year of his three-year, $21 million contract with the San Diego Padres Monday, per the MLB Player's Association Communication Department. Profar's three-year contract gave him the ability to opt out after each of the first two seasons. His 2022 season was a rebound from 2021, as he slashed .243/.331/.391 with 15 home runs, 58 RBI, and five stolen bases in 658 plate appearances. The former top prospect and current free agent has not lived up to expectations over the course of his career, but he did play an important role for the Padres this past season.

Fri Oct 14 202216:31Jurickson Profar Back In Leadoff Spot For Game 3
San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar is starting in left field and is batting leadoff in Game 3 of the National League Division Series on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Tony Gonsolin. Profar was dropped to seventh in the order in the Game 2 win on Wednesday in which he went 2-for-3 with an RBI, walk and strikeout in the 5-3 victory. The 29-year-old switch-hitter has been swinging a hot bat so far in the playoffs in 2022, going 6-for-19 (.316) with a homer, five RBI, three runs scored, three walks and three strikeouts in five games. Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim will move back down to the seventh spot in the lineup with Profar going back to leadoff on Friday.

Mon Aug 1 202200:08Jurickson Profar Adds Homer And Steal
San Diego Padres utility man Jurickson Profar once again had a solid game on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Profar now has 11 homers and five steals on the season. He has four multi-hit performances in his last six games, with six RBI in that span. With a .757 OPS, 58 runs scored, and 44 RBI on the season, Profar has been a net positive across all fantasy categories this season, making him a valuable and underrated back-of-the-roster fantasy asset.

Mon Jul 25 202223:57Jurickson Profar Homers, Reaches Three Times
San Diego Padres utility player Jurickson Profar reached base three times Monday, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 12-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Profar now has nine home runs on the season to go with a .741 OPS, four steals, 53 runs, and 39 RBI in 335 at-bats this season. Despite not being spectacular in any one fantasy category, Profar offers all-category production and should continue to score plenty of runs from the leadoff spot in the order. His positional flexibility in most formats also contributes to a solid fantasy floor.

Thu Jul 14 202221:43Jurickson Profar Could Return Friday
San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar (concussion, neck) could be activated from the 7-day concussion list ahead of Friday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He will play in a rehab game on Thursday and could be activated on Friday. The 29-year-old was placed on the 7-day concussion list last Friday. He was involved in a scary collision with his teammate C.J. Abrams while attempting to catch a pop-up in left field. Profar is slashing .242/.343/.397 with eight home runs, 38 RBI, and 50 runs across 361 plate appearances in 2022. Fantasy managers should check back on Friday and ensure Profar is in the lineup before activating him.

Profar slashed .242/.343/.397 with eight home runs, 38 RBI, 50 runs, and four stolen bases over 83 games in 2022. Brent Rooker was recalled from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move. Rooker is a speculative add in deep-league formats after slashing .279/.401/.596 with 14 homers, 45 runs, 44 RBI, and four stolen bases over 49 games in El Paso this year.

Thu Jul 7 202223:36Jurickson Profar Removed During Thursday's Game
San Diego Padres infielder/outfielder Jurickson Profar was removed from the game on Thursday after a scary collision. Profar was accidentally hit directly in the jaw by teammate C.J. Abrams. He attempted to walk off the field under his own power. Sadly, Profar was unable to do that and needed a cart to get off the field. Nomar Mazara came into the game as a replacement. There should be an update on Profar shortly, but he'll likely miss at least a few days.

Mon Apr 25 202214:37Jurickson Profar Enjoying Productive Start
San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar has been plenty productive this season. Profar is batting .224 with a .361 on-base percentage, four home runs, and a stolen base in 61 plate appearances for the Padres. He's hit either fourth or fifth in each of his last six starts and should continue to play regularly for San Diego thanks to his versatility. Profar has made all of his starts in left field this season but has experience playing every other position on the field besides pitcher and catcher. The veteran has a double in three career plate appearances against Reiver Sanmartin, who is starting for the Cincinnati Reds against Profar and the Padres on Tuesday.

Wed Aug 25 202113:31Jurickson Profar Swats Rare Home Run
San Diego Padres utilityman Jurickson Profar drew a walk and crushed a two-run home run in two at-bats Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Entering to play first base as part of a double switch, Profar's long ball was one of three hits for the Friars in the feeble 5-2 loss. Along with a recent IL stint, the 28-year-old has seen his playing time dwindle as he sports a modest .243/.348/.338 slash with three homers, 10 steals and 64 runs-plus-RBI in 321 plate appearances. Despite his elite plate discipline, Profar's weak batted-ball outcomes render him a desperation play in only the deepest best ball and OBP formats.

Fri Aug 20 202121:08Jurickson Profar Activated From IL Friday
San Diego Padres utility player Jurickson Profar (COVID-19) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list on Friday, the team announced on Twitter. Profar has been out for two weeks on the IL, and in a rehab game with Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, he went 1-for-3 with two walks. Over 99 games this season, Profar is slashing .242/.344/.327 with two home runs, 10 steals, 24 RBI and 37 runs scored. He really only has value in deep formats, and can be left on the waiver wire in the majority of leagues.

Mon Aug 16 202112:51Jurickson Profar Records Hit In Rehab Game
San Diego Padres infielder Jurickson Profar went 1-for-3 with two walks during Sunday's rehab game with Triple-A El Paso. He was placed on the injured list 10 days ago due to COVID-19. However, it sounds like Profar is already getting back into the groove and should return within the next few days. Profar was in a hot stretch before getting sidelined, but hasn't offered much upside in fantasy formats all season long. He could possibly be a NL-only option, but probably won't help more than that.

Fri Jul 23 202103:24Rays rally past Tribe after trading for slugger Nelson Cruz
CLEVELAND (AP) — Austin Meadows hit an RBI single in the 10th inning to cap Tampa Bay’s comeback in a 5-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night, hours after the Rays acquired slugger Nelson Cruz from Minnesota. Meadows’ one-out liner off Bryan Shaw (3-4) brought home Randy Arozarena, who began the 10th at second base. Down 4-2 in the ninth, the Rays rallied to tie it against closer James Karinchak on a leadoff homer by Yandy Diaz and Brandon Lowe’s two-out RBI double. Pete Fairbanks (3-3) pitched the ninth and Diego Castillo struck out Franmil Reyes and Bobby Bradley with the potential tying run at third in the 10th for his 14th save. The Rays announced their acquisition of Cruz just before the first pitch. Needing a big bat for the playoff push, Tampa Bay got a potent one from the disappointing Twins. Cruz has 436 career homers, and his presence alone will re-shape Tampa Bay’s lineup. Indians starter Cal Quantrill allowed just one run in six strong innings before turning it... [More]
