Tue Mar 11 201416:23Brian Flynn goes three scoreless
Brian Flynn blanked the Red Sox for three innings, allowing just one hit, on Tuesday.
It was a split-squad, but Flynn was facing the good one, making this an especially nice outing for him. He's still a long shot in the Marlins' fifth starter competition, though. Tom Koehler is more experienced, Andrew Heaney is more talented and Brad Hand has the advantage of being out of options. It's hard to imagine Flynn being picked over all three of them.

Wed Feb 12 201418:35Flynn, Koehler in competition for fifth spot
Brian Flynn, Tom Koehler and Brad Hand are among the candidates for the Marlins' fifth starter spot, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.
The Marlins' president of baseball operations Michael Hill mentioned those three names as guys who will be given a chance to win a rotation spot this spring. Top prospects Andrew Heaney and Justin Nicolino were also noted as guys who will pitch some innings this spring, but Hill said both are likely to start the season in the minors. The 23-year-old Flynn struggled in a September stint with the club last season, but the imposing lefty posted a 2.63 ERA and 147/43 K/BB ratio over 161 innings between Double-A and Triple-A before the promotion.

Flynn racked up five strikeouts while walking three on the night. The 23-year-old southpaw who came to the Marlins in last season's trade that sent Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante to the Tigers, has struggled in his brief audition with the Marlins, posting a 8.50 ERA, 2.22 WHIP and 15/13 K/BB ratio over 18 innings. He's unlikely to make another start for the Fish this season.

Tue Sep 17 201322:19Brian Flynn rocked by Phillies
Brian Flynn was lit up for six runs on 11 hits and a walk over six frames in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies.
He gave up a three spot in the third and yielded another three runs on a three-run blast to Chase Utley in the fifth. Over his first 14 major league innings, Flynn has allowed 13 runs and 23 hits. He had a nice year in the minors, but it's clear he's not ready to be trusted at the big league level yet. Flynn gets the Nats on the road this weekend.
