Wed Jun 25 201422:54Mills holds Mets to three runs, earns 1st win
Brad Mills earned his first win of the season, allowing three runs over 6 1/3 innings as the Athletics defeated the Mets 8-5 on Wednesday.
The one-dollar man shut the Mets out through six innings, relenting three runs only to his final batter. Lucas Duda pinch-hit with one out in the seventh and belted a three-run home run to right-center to end Mills' night. Overall, the lefty allowed nine hits, didn't issue a walk, and struck out four. Mills will go up against the Tigers in his next start.

Sat Jun 21 201414:40Mills likely to stick in rotation
Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Saturday that Brad Mills will remain in the starting rotation for now.
Mills, who was acquired from the Brewers for one dollar earlier this week, allowed three runs (two earned) in four innings against the Red Sox on Friday. However, the shaky outing won't change the team's plan. The soft-tossing lefty isn't worth considering outside of AL-only leagues.

Sat Jun 21 201401:49Brad Mills lasts four innings in A's debut
Brad Mills yielded three runs -- two earned -- in four innings Friday against the Red Sox in his A's debut.
Mills was unlucky that Nick Punto botched the routinest of double-play balls in the second, getting no outs and setting the Red Sox up for two-run inning. But that's not to say he deserved better than his line. Mills gave up four hits and walked four in his four innings. A better offense would have made things more difficult for him. We expected him to have some value in AL-only leagues while in the Oakland rotation, but we're more skeptical now.

Brad Mills will start on Friday versus the Red Sox.
Jesse Chavez will be pushed back a day to start Saturday. Acquired this week in a trade with the Brewers, Mills has put up a 1.56 ERA and 77/18 K/BB ratio in 75 innings at the Triple-A level. Although the 29-year-old doesn't have a good major league track record (7.76 ERA), he's a tempting play for starts at O.co Coliseum.

Fri Jul 6 201215:21Mills or Smith to receive spot start
The Angels are expected to call up either Brad Mills or Greg Smith from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Sunday against the Orioles.
Mills would seem to be the likelier option on the surface, but Smith has pitched better for Salt Lake of late. It will likely just be a spot start, as Jerome Williams (chest) will probably be ready to assume Dan Haren's (back) spot in the rotation after the All-Star break.

Angels acquired LHP Brad Mills from the Blue Jays for C Jeff Mathis.
Mathis was almost certain to get non-tendered after the Angels acquired Chris Iannetta, so credit general manager Jerry Dipoto for getting value in return. Mills will look to compete for a rotation spot this season, but may be best suited for middle relief at the major league level.
