Fri Jun 24 202216:15Joey Wendle To Start Rehab Assignment Saturday
Miami Marlins third baseman Joey Wendle (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday with Triple-A Jacksonville and serve as the designated hitter. Wendle has been out since early June, but he's nearing a return to Miami's starting lineup. Barring any setbacks, the 32-year-old could be back in the big leagues at some point next week. Fellow third baseman Brian Anderson (back) is also rehabbing at Jacksonville and could return around the same time Wendle does. Wendle was hitting .284/.340/.420 with two homers, 11 RBI and four stolen bases in 29 games before his injury and he's the most attractive fantasy third baseman in Miami, but he could lose valuable playing time to both Anderson and Jon Berti, who has been filling in primarily at the hot corner with both Wendle and Anderson on the shelf.

Wed Jun 1 202213:59Joey Wendle, Brian Anderson Go On Injured List
The Miami Marlins placed infielders Joey Wendle (hamstring) and Brian Anderson (back) on the injured list on Wednesday. Wendle will go back to the injured list due to a right hamstring strain, while Anderson is dealing with back spasms. Wendle left the game early on Monday against the Colorado Rockies with right hamstring pain just two weeks after a stay on the IL for the same hamstring. Fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if he's out longer this time around. He was hitting a solid .284/.340/.420 with two home runs, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored and four steals in 88 at-bats. With both Wendle and Anderson on the shelf, Luke Williams will see increased playing time at the hot corner. He's starting at third base and is batting ninth in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela on Wednesday.

Mon May 30 202218:21Joey Wendle Injured Monday
Miami Marlins infielder Joey Wendle (hamstring) was removed from the game early on Monday against the Colorado Rockies due to right hamstring discomfort after sliding into second base. Wendle went 1-for-2 at the plate before he exited the contest in the fourth inning. The 32-year-old has already been on the injured list twice this season due to hamstring issues, so this isn't a good sign. Fantasy managers should be bracing for another absence for Wendle, who came into Monday's game hitting .279/.337/.419 with two round-trippers, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored and four stolen bases in 86 at-bats. Brian Anderson, who is currently dealing with a back injury, and Jon Berti could fill in at the hot corner if Wendle is forced to the IL yet again.

Thu May 26 202220:30Joey Wendle Activated From Injured List
The Miami Marlins activated infielder Joey Wendle (hamstring) and reliever Richard Bleier (illness) from the injured list on Thursday and optioned Payton Henry and Joe Dunand to Triple-A Jacksonville in corresponding moves. Wendle has been on the shelf since May 13, but he will return to the team's starting lineup on Friday after going on a minor league rehab assignment. The 32-year-old will likely be involved in some sort of timeshare at third base with Brian Anderson now that he's back. Wendle is the more attractive fantasy option, as he is hitting a cool .304/.368/.456 with an .824 OPS, two home runs, six doubles, 10 RBI, 12 runs scored and four stolen bases in 87 plate appearances over his first 25 games for the Fish this year.

Fri May 13 202215:21Joey Wendle To Injured List, Brian Anderson Returns
The Miami Marlins placed third baseman Joey Wendle (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a right hamstring strain and activated third baseman Brian Anderson from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move. Wendle's IL placement is retroactive to May 12. Wendle left the game early on Wednesday with more right hamstring tightness. It's a blow to the Marlins, as he was hitting a solid .304 with two home runs and four stolen bases over 87 plate appearances. It's unknown if Wendle will be ready to return from the IL when he's eligible. Anderson is starting at the hot corner and batting seventh on Friday against Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Corbin Burnes. He should see most of his playing time at third base until Wendle is able to return, but DFS gamers should avoid him on Friday against Burnes.

Wed May 11 202217:11Joey Wendle Leaves Game Early Wednesday
Miami Marlins third baseman Joey Wendle (hamstring) left the game early on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks with right hamstring tightness. Wendle left the game in the third inning, but he did some damage before departing by going 2-for-2 with a two-run home run, just his second round-tripper of the year in 25 games. Infielder Erik Gonzalez replaced Wendle for the Fish. The 32-year-old should be considered day-to-day for now, but he also missed three games last week with the same injury. Entering Wednesday's contest, Wendle was hitting .286 with one homer, eight RBI, 11 runs scored and four stolen bases in 85 at-bats for Miami.

Wed May 4 202211:09Joey Wendle Remains Out On Wednesday
Miami Marlins infielder Joey Wendle (hamstring) will miss his third straight game on Wednesday as the team takes on Madison Bumgarner and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Wendle is currently dealing with hamstring soreness. The team is considering the injury minor. There's a chance we could see him back on the field during one of the first couple games of the team's upcoming four-game set against the San Diego Padres, which begins on Thursday. The 32-year-old is off to a nice start to the season, slashing .300/.364/.450 over 18 games.

Fri Apr 22 202208:37Joey Wendle Settles With Marlins, Avoiding Arbitration
The Miami Marlins and third baseman Joey Wendle have settled on a contract, avoiding arbitration. The 31-year-old will have a salary of $4.55 million for the 2022 season. Additionally, if the club passes on his option for 2023, he will make another $75K. Wendle is off to a nice start to his Marlins career. Over 12 games this year, he's slashing .314/.368/.400 with three doubles, four RBI and four runs scored.

Tue Nov 30 202120:10Joey Wendle Traded To Marlins
Infielder Joey Wendle is on the move, as the Tampa Bay Rays have traded the 31-year-old to the Miami Marlins in exchange for outfield prospect Kameron Misner. Wendle has spent the last four seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, slashing .265/.319/.422 with 11 homers and eight steals in 2021. He should see plenty of playing time at second base, third base, and shortstop, and is under club control through the 2023 season via arbitration. The move opens up playing time in Tampa Bay for Taylor Walls and Vidal Brujan among others. Misner, meanwhile, has an outside shot to appear in the major leagues in 2022 but more likely will spend the season in the upper minors.

Wed Sep 22 202112:57Joey Wendle Absent From Wednesday's Lineup
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Joey Wendle is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Julian Merryweather and the Toronto Blue Jays. Taylor Walls is getting the start at shortstop and batting ninth in the game. Wendle has continued to be a steady and consistent producer for the Rays lately. He's reached base in six straight games and he's slashing .258/.333/.419 over the month of September as a whole. He has career-highs in home runs (11) and runs scored (69) this season. His eligibility at second base, third base and shortstop makes him a worthy player to roster in most AL-only leagues and deep leagues.

Tue Sep 21 202107:46Joey Wendle Launches 11th Home Run In Monday’s Win
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Joey Wendle went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Monday's 6-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. He blasted a solo shot off Blue Jays reliever Ryan Borucki in the eighth inning to increase the Rays' lead 6-4. It was his 11th long ball of the season. The 31-year-old continues to see everyday at-bats while Wander Franco (hamstring) is sidelined. Franco could return from the 10-day injured list on Friday, sending Wendle back into a utility role. Wendle is slashing .271/.324/.434 with 11 home runs, 52 RBI, 69 runs scored, and seven stolen bases over 127 games in 2021. Fantasy managers can use Wendle as a streamer until Franco is activated from the injured list.

Wed Sep 15 202112:58Joey Wendle Not In Lineup For Wednesday's Game
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Joey Wendle will take a seat on the bench for Wednesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to MLB.com. Wendle has put up decent offensive numbers this season, slashing .274/.324./436 with 10 HRs and seven stolen bases over 122 games. He's a fine player to roster in many leagues, not hurting fantasy managers in any specific category. However, Wendle has batted just .198 off of left-handers this season, so it wouldn't be a good matchup with Robbie Ray on the bump. Taylor Walls is in the lineup playing shortstop and batting eighth. Walls has almost no fantasy value, as he owns a .609 OPS with one home run and four steals across 48 games. He should be left on the wire in favor of better infield options.

Sat Sep 11 202123:46Joey Wendle Triples, Homers On Saturday
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Joey Wendle went 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, and an additional run scored during Saturday's 7-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. He belted a solo shot into the right-center field seats in the fourth inning to extend the Rays lead 4-0. The 31-year-old tripled and beat Tigers' third baseman Jeimer Candelario's throw at the plate to score his second run of the game. Wendle should see an everyday role with the Rays placing rookie phenom Wander Franco (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Saturday. The Rays infielder should be added in all league formats after slashing .279/.328/.445 with 10 home runs, 51 RBI, 65 runs scored, and seven stolen bases over 119 games in 2021.

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Joey Wendle had a big day at the plate Sunday, collecting three hits, six RBI, and two runs scored. He also homered twice and walked once in five plate appearances. Wendle was due for a day like this, struggling over his last 30 games with a .706 OPS. It was the first time Wendle went deep since June 6, and he now has nine home runs with a slash line of .279/.327/.443, while adding six stolen bases, 49 RBI, and 61 runs over 108 games. Wendle should only be rostered in deep-leagues, with pretty average numbers in most categories.

The Rays infielder tacked on an RBI groundout in the eighth inning to increase Tampa Bay's lead 8-4. Wendle plays semi-regularly but has solid numbers overall. The 31-year-old is slashing .272/.322/.425 with seven home runs, 42 RBI, 58 runs scored, and six stolen bases over 102 games in 2021. Wendle qualifies at second base, shortstop, and third base in some formats, giving him fantasy value in 12-team or deeper leagues.

Sun Aug 1 202116:28Joey Wendle Isn't In Sunday's Lineup
Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Joey Wendle isn't starting for the team on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox and right-handed starter Nick Pivetta. Wendle has been solid at the plate for both the Rays and fantasy managers so far in 2021, batting .281 with a .339 on-base percentage, seven home runs, and six stolen bases in 316 plate appearances. Yandy Diaz is starting at third instead on Sunday and batting fifth against Pivetta. Diaz could be worth a look as a streaming option, especially in leagues where on-base percentage is part of the scoring. In 365 plate appearances this season, Diaz is batting .260 with a .373 on-base percentage and seven home runs.
