He appeared in 35 games for the Mets last season, going 1-1 with a 2.43 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings.

The transaction clears a 40-man roster spot for reliever Tyler Clippard, who was acquired by the Mets on Monday to bolster the bullpen. Goeddel is set to begin a rehab assignment this week now that he's recovered from a sprained right elbow, but his placement on the 60-day DL won't allow him to be activated until Aug. 11.

He improved his command of all his pitches, especially his fastball, which allowed him to set up his curve and splitter as out-pitches. With the Mets' bullpen thinned by injury as well as recent ineffectiveness, Goeddel may be used high-leveraged situations.

Goeddel was called up Tuesday with Jenrry Mejia (elbow) landing on the 15-day disabled list, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Goeddel will serve as another bullpen arm for the Mets, likely in middle relief.

Goeddel was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Goeddel had a 5.37 ERA last year with Triple-A Las Vegas, but showed some upside with a 9.1 K/9. He may spend most of 2015 at Triple-A as well.

Goeddel will be promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas with the rosters expanding Monday, ESPN New York reports.

Goeddel will likely work out of middle relief for the Mets.
