CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians may start the season without their best player.All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor will miss spring training camp — and maybe the start of the season — with a strained right calf. It's an injury that is concerning to the AL Central champions, who have had an interesting offseason. One of baseball's top all-around players, Lindor recently got hurt while working out in Orlando, Florida. He was checked Wednesday at the Cleveland Clinic and team physician Mark Shickendantz confirmed a moderate sprain. The Indians, who have overhauled their roster this winter, anticipate him missing up to nine weeks, which would place his return sometime in early April. ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that reliever Daniel Hudson has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Angels. The source spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the Angels haven't announced the deal.Hudson had a 4.11 ERA in 46 innings last season for the Dodgers, who were the right-hander's fourth big-league team. He missed the final two months of the season with forearm soreness. He spent six years with the Arizona Diamondbacks, going 16-12 as a promising starter in 2011. He missed parts of the following three seasons after Tommy John surgery.Hudson appears to have a strong chance to pitch his way into a role in the Angels' bullpen with a good spring.___More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

Reaction from the baseball world and beyond to the death of Hall of Famer Frank Robinson on Thursday at 83:___"Frank was my first big league manager. I still remember being so nervous to walk into his office and introduce myself. He was a living legend and I was a 20-year-old kid right out of college. I can honestly say that meeting was the last time I ever felt that way around him. From that day on, he took care of me and treated me like a son. He was hard on me and at times I wondered why. I'm positive my career was shaped by the way he treated me and pushed me to be a professional. He taught me so many lessons about baseball and life that I will keep with me and pass along to teammates, friends and even my two daughters. We kept in touch through the years with phone calls, breakfast or lunch when I was on the West Coast and locker room visits. ... Thank you Frank for all that you did for me. You made baseball, and more importantly this world, a better place." — Washington Nationals star... [More]
