Thu May 24 201800:14Plutko, Miller pitch Indians past Cubs 1-0
CHICAGO (AP) — Adam Plutko was nervous. Not about making his second major league start, really. It was all about stepping to the plate.Once that was over, everything fell into place.Plutko carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Andrew Miller provided stellar relief work, helping the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago Cubs 1-0 on Wednesday night."We know when (Plutko) commands everything, he can be pretty good," manager Terry Francona said. "But on a night when he didn't command real well, he still did pretty damn good."Plutko (2-0) was promoted from Triple-A Columbus to replace the struggling Josh Tomlin in Cleveland's rotation. The right-hander issued each of his four walks in the first two innings, but settled down after a successful sacrifice in the third in his first at-bat since he was a junior in high school in 2009."I was really nervous to hit, and so as soon as I got that bunt down in the third, I felt like a lot more calm and everything was a lot better," he said.Plutko's... Wed Apr 25 201818:10Cabrera heads to extended spring after signing with Indians
CLEVELAND (AP) — Veteran outfielder Melky Cabrera will report to extended spring training after signing a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians.Indians manager Terry Francona said Wednesday the 33-year-old Cabrera will spend approximately 7-to-10 days at the team's complex in Goodyear, Arizona, before joining a minor league team. The Indians are 13th in the AL in runs scored and Cabrera could give their struggling offense a boost. The switch-hitter batted .285 with 17 homers and 85 RBIs in 156 games last season for the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals.Lonnie Chisenhall, who began the season in right field, is expected to miss another month with a strained right calf. Sun Apr 8 201812:21Indians' Chisenhall to miss 4-6 weeks with calf strain
CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall is expected to be sidelined for four-to six weeks after straining his right calf, an injury similar to the one that caused him to miss nearly two months last season.Outfielder Tyler Naquin was recalled from Triple-A Columbus to replace Chisenhall, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list before Sunday's game against Kansas City. Chisenhall was injured while making a running catch in the first inning Saturday and was removed for a pinch hitter in the second.Indians manager Terry Francona said Chisenhall was diagnosed with a mild strain. Sat Apr 7 201820:38Bauer blasts new MLB rules following 1-0 loss to Royals
CLEVELAND (AP) — Trevor Bauer felt the rules beat him before the Royals did.Bauer allowed Lucas Duda's homer on his first pitch in the seventh inning for the game's only run and Ian Kennedy pitched six shutout innings, leading Kansas City to a 1-0 win over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday in frigid, football-like weather conditions.Duda's shot off Bauer (0-1) was one of only three hits by Kansas City and a rare highlight as the teams survived nine innings with the temperature hovering around freezing. But afterward, Bauer complained that he didn't have enough time to warm up following the sixth inning. In an attempt to speed up play this season, Major League Baseball has cut the time between innings from 2 minutes, 25 seconds to 2:05."First pitch of the inning, coming out, I tried to get loose, but with the new (Commissioner) Rob Manfred time (nonsense) we have only a certain amount of time between innings, it's hard to get loose sometimes, especially in conditions like that. It's not safe,... [More]

Fri Jan 12 201820:02Indians reach arbitration deals, set hearing with Bauer
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians settled all their arbitration cases but one. Once again, Trevor Bauer is an exception. The club avoided arbitration with starter Danny Salazar and right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall on Friday, agreeing to one-year contracts for the 2018 season.Salazar, who is coming off an inconsistent and injury-slowed 2017, will make $5 million next season. Chisenhall's contract is worth $5,587,500. He's projected to be the starting right fielder for the AL Central champions.Cleveland also reached agreement with reliever Zach McAllister on a $2.45 million contract. The Indians, however, didn't settle with Bauer before the deadline to exchange salary figures. The enigmatic right-hander won a career-high 17 games last season and developed into a vital member of Cleveland's rotation. He made 31 starts and established himself as a premier pitcher, known as much for his array of pitches as his hobby of flying drones or unique training regimen.Bauer went 10-1 with a 2.60 ERA...
