Thu Sep 30 202100:45Alex Verdugo Drives In Two Wednesday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo drove in two runs against the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday, going 2-for-4 from the eighth spot in the lineup. Verdugo hasn't homered since September 14, but he's in the midst of a solid month, slashing .329/.363/.452 in September. Verdugo has been consistent all year, resulting in a solid .783 OPS with 13 homers, six steals, 88 runs, and 61 RBI. He'll be underrated heading into 2022 fantasy drafts.

Fri Sep 17 202123:40Alex Verdugo Has Three Hits, Scores Twice
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo has been batting eighth in the lineup against a string of left-handed starters, but that hasn't stopped him from producing. On Friday, against the Baltimore Orioles, Verdugo with 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Verdugo has slashed .355/.418/.477 over his past 30 games, and while he has only two homers and one steal in that time, he's managed to score 19 runs and drive in 16 more. He's no fantasy superstar, but he's a very safe contributor across the board.

Wed Sep 15 202114:14Alex Verdugo Absent From Wednesday’s Lineup
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. He went 2-for-5 with a two-run shot in Tuesday's win. The 25-year-old will get the day off slashing .375/.360/.500 with six RBI over his last seven games. Fantasy managers with daily moves need to remove Verdugo from their lineups. Jose Iglesias is starting at second base while Kike' Hernandez shifts to centerfield. Iglesias is hitting .556 (5-for-9) with a homer over his last three games and can be used as a streamer for Wednesday's slate.

Wed Sep 15 202112:25Alex Verdugo Adds Insurance Homer
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo added a home run Tuesday night, as he went 2-for-5 with the two-run shot. It's his 13th of the season. Verdugo batted eighth in this matchup against the Seattle Mariners, and while he doesn't have a great slate this week against a slew of left-handed starters, he's still slashing .375/.360/.500 with six RBI over his last seven games, making him hard to bench in the fantasy playoffs.

Sun Sep 12 202100:25Alex Verdugo Scores Twice, Drives In Two
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo had just one hit in five at-bats Saturday, but he still managed to score twice and drive in two runs. He also struck out three times. Verdugo has slashed .355/.427/.495 over his last 30 games with 17 runs scored and 15 RBI in that time, though only two home runs. With 12 homers and six steals on the year, Verdugo is more useful as a steady compiler than a power or speed threat, but he's worth keeping active for fantasy managers in what should continue to be a potent Boston lineup.

Tue Sep 7 202123:47Alex Verdugo Adds Three Hits Tuesday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo had three hits in five at-bats against the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday, though it wasn't enough to avoid a 12-7 loss to the division leaders. Verdugo now has three multi-hit affairs in his first six September games, so it seems that his dreadful stretch of defense isn't affecting his production. He's slashing .345/.422/.500 over his past 30 games, and figures to be a solid floor option for fantasy managers the rest of the way.

Thu Sep 2 202119:03Alex Verdugo Not Starting Thursday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo isn't in the lineup on Thursday. The Red Sox will take on the Tampa Bay Rays and left-hander Shane McClanahan, but will do so with one of their best hitters on the bench. Verdugo is batting .286 with a .353 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and six stolen bases in 515 plate appearances this season. Boston is starting J.D. Martinez, Danny Santana, and Hunter Renfroe from left to right in the outfield. Martinez is likely rostered in most leagues, but Renfroe, who is batting leadoff on Thursday, could be a quality streaming option. In 459 plate appearances, this season the 29-year-old is batting .257 with a .314 on-base percentage and 25 home runs.

Sun Aug 29 202122:28Alex Verdugo Succeds In One Of Two Steal Attempts
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo went 1-for-3 with a walk against Cleveland Sunday, and he attempted to steal second each of his times on base. He was successful in one of those attempts, giving him his sixth steal of the year. He's now been caught twice. Verdugo has been the team's top offensive performer recently, with a .407/.500/.593 slash line in 31 plate appearances over his last seven games. With 12 homers, 76 runs, and 49 RBI this season, he's been an excellent all-around performer this season with upside for more the rest of the way.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo continued his hot streak Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored. It's his second consecutive three-hit game, and he's now slashing .383/.449/.600 in 60 August at-bats. It hasn't been a banner year for the lefty swinger, but he's more than worth a spot in the starting lineup at this point.

Tue Aug 24 202101:23Alex Verdugo Homers, Has Three Hits
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo had a big day Monday, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored. Verdugo has thrived in the month of August, slashing .351/.415/.544 with two home runs. He hasn't thrived in any single category this year, but with 12 homers, five steals, 72 runs scored, and 46 RBI in 427 at-bats, he's enough of an all-around producer to be active in all but the shallowest fantasy formats going forward.

Sun Aug 15 202100:52Alex Verdugo Breaks Out With Four Hits
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo was one of the big offensive stars against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, going 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Verdugo has finally gotten things going in August, slashing .412/.447/.618 in 34 at-bats. Of his nine games played in the month, he's had multiple hits in five of them. Verdugo does a bit of everything, and while his 11 homers and five steals have not met expectations, he's still worth a roster spot in all fantasy formats.

Fri Aug 13 202118:09Alex Verdugo Back From Leave, Batting Second On Friday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo (paternity leave) is back in the lineup batting second on Friday against Spenser Watkins and the visiting Baltimore Orioles. The 25-year-old lefty missed games earlier in the week due to being on paternity leave. Prior to that, he went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Verdugo is heating up down the stretch for Boston, slashing .400/.429/.680 with one homer, two RBI, and three runs scored on 10 hits over his last seven games.

Sun Aug 8 202100:53Alex Verdugo Homers In Game Two Saturday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo was the clear hero of the nightcap against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run off starting pitcher Jose Berrios. It was Verdugo's 11th homer of the year. After being dropped to the order earlier in the season, Verdugo has really turned it on of late, posting multiple hits in four of his last five games. He has a .400/.429/.680 slash line in his last seven. It's possible Verdugo has fallen to the waiver wire in some leagues with impatient fantasy managers, and if that's the case he should be snapped up immediately.

Wed Aug 4 202108:27Alex Verdugo In Midst Of 1-For-15 Stretch
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo has been struggling at the plate over his last four games. He's gone 1-for-15 with a double, two walks and seven strikeouts over that stretch. The strikeouts might be the most surprising metric from that stretch as he has an elite 14.8% strikeout rate on the year, ranking him in the 90th percentile. It's been a bit of an underwhelming year so far for Verdugo. In his first year with the Red Sox last year, he slashed .308/.367/.478. This year, his slash line is down across the board as he's slashing .268/.337/.408. He only has 10 home runs and five stolen bases, so he'll need to really get his batting average up in order to be a difference maker for fantasy purposes.

Sun Jul 25 202122:53Red Sox score 5 runs in 8th inning, rally past Yankees 5-4
BOSTON (AP) — Held hitless into the eighth inning by Domingo Germán and looking feeble, Alex Verdugo and the Boston Red Sox suddenly erupted for five runs and stormed past the New York Yankees 5-4 Sunday. Verdugo opened the eighth with a long double for Boston’s first hit. Later, Kiké Hernández slid home headfirst on Xander Bogaerts’ sacrifice fly with the go-ahead run to cap the rally. The Red Sox won for the 10th time in 13 games against the Yankees and reclaimed first place in the AL East, a game ahead of Tampa Bay. New York fell nine games behind Boston. Boston trailed 4-0 when Verdugo doubled to deep right, and Germán was lifted after the hit. Jonathan Loaisiga (7-4) relieved, and Boston broke loose with four straight hits. Hunter Renfroe had an RBI double, Christian Vázquez singled home a run and Hernández followed with an RBI double, cutting it to 4-3. Zack Britton relieved and pinch-hitter Kevin Plawecki’s groundout plated the tying run. Hernández hustled hard and beat right fielder... [More]
