Mon Apr 4 202200:08Jordan Montgomery Focusing On Command Over Velocity
New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery has been focusing on his fastball command this spring, according to the NY Post. Montgomery has the ability to sit near 95 MPH with his four seamer, but the lefty said he tends to leave the ball over the middle of the plate when he's throwing at max effort. Instead, Montgomery said he'd be willing to sacrifice a little bit of velocity to have better command and keep the ball on the edges of the strike zone. The 29-year-old is looking to improve on his best season in the Majors as he posted a 3.83 ERA supported by a 3.69 FIP and 3.93 xFIP last season, while averaging over a strikeout-per-inning. Montgomery is a solid SP3 to target in fantasy drafts, but he'll be tested early as he's scheduled to make his season debut on April 10 against a strong Red Sox lineup.

Mon Sep 27 202109:53Jordan Montgomery Allows One Run In Five Innings Of Work
New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery delivered a solid effort despite the no-decision Sunday against the Red Sox. Montgomery pitched five innings, allowing one run on seven hits with zero walks issued. The lefty struck out four batters while generating nine whiffs. Montgomery has been brilliant over his last three starts, as he has allowed just three runs while posting a 22:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He'll be a solid streaming option in his final scheduled start against the Rays. Montgomery owns a 3-1 record and a 3.18 ERA in 28 1/3 innings against Tampa Bay this year.

Wed Sep 22 202109:33Jordan Montgomery Strikes Out Six In Victory
New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery earned his sixth victory of the season Tuesday against the Rangers. Montgomery pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits while issuing one walk. He struck out six batters, generating 11 swinging strikes, six of them coming on his changeup. While the starts came against lesser opponents in Baltimore and Texas, Montgomery has been outstanding in those outings, allowing two runs in that span while striking out 18 batters with just two walks. He could be a solid streamer for those in need of a back-end starter in the fantasy playoffs, despite the tough matchup against the Blue Jays.

Fri Sep 17 202108:35Jordan Montgomery Strikes Out Career-High 12 Batters
New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery dominated the Orioles in a no-decision Thursday. Montgomery went 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits while issuing one walk. The left-hander struck out a career-high 12 batters. Montgomery generated a very impressive 22 whiffs, 18 of them on his curveball-changeup combo. The 28-year-old continues to have rotten luck in the win department, as this was his second performance of the year where he allowed one run or fewer over at least five innings of work with 11 or more punchouts- and he doesn't have a win to show for either outing. Montgomery will have a great chance to keep rolling in his next outing against the Rangers, who own baseball's lowest team OPS.

Sat Sep 4 202117:29Jordan Montgomery Fans Five In No-Decision
New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery didn't make it to the fifth inning in a no-decision against the Orioles Saturday. Montgomery pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits while issuing two walks. He struck out five batters, generating 11 swinging strikes in the process. Montgomery threw 97 pitches, his highest total since returning from the COVID-19 injured list, though he wasn't very efficient, failing to make it five innings for the second time since August. Montgomery has been solid this year, with a 3.47 ERA and 1.21 WHIP, but he'll face a tough matchup in his next time out against the Blue Jays.

Mon Aug 23 202123:41Jordan Montgomery Notches Fifth Win
New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery improved his record to 5-5 in Monday's win over the Braves. Montgomery pitched five innings of one-run ball, allowing a pair of hits while walking four. He struck out only two batters. Control was an issue for the southpaw, as he fired just 41 of 75 pitches for strikes while issuing a season-high four walks. Still, Montgomery did enough to come away with the victory and has now surrendered just four runs in 9 2/3 innings since coming off of the COVID-19 injured list. The Yankees have limited him to 78 and 75 pitches in his first two starts, clearly watching his workload, though his stamina should only improve from start to start. He makes for a solid play in his next outing against Oakland, who he held to one run over 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts in their first meeting this year.

Tue Aug 17 202121:24Jordan Montgomery reinstated from COVID-IL, Fans Six
New York Yankees pitcher Jordan Montgomery was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday and threw 78 pitches in his return. He allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six across 4 2/3 innings during Game 1 of Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Boston Red Sox. The southpaw did not factor into the decision. Montgomery surrendered a go-ahead home run to Christian Vazquez during the fifth inning and got the quick hook shortly after. The 28-year-old has allowed three earned runs or less in nine consecutive starts. Montgomery owns a (4-5) record along with a 3.77 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 121 strikeouts across 119 1/3 innings in 2021. Fantasy managers can use him as a streamer in a favorable home matchup against the Twins on Sunday.

Sun Aug 15 202112:19Gerrit Cole, Jordan Montgomery Returning For Yankees
New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole will be back on the mound Monday against the Los Angeles Angels, according to The Athletic, citing manager Aaron Boone. Luis Gil and Jordan Montgomery are the expected starters for Tuesday's doubleheader against Boston. Cole and Montgomery recently tested positive for Covid-19, though they have been able to throw and work out together. Their return after a relatively short absence is a big boost for the Yankees and fantasy managers, especially with Cole in the mix for the American League's Cy Young award.

Tue Aug 10 202119:37Gerrit Cole, Jordan Montgomery Close To Returning
New York Yankees starting pitchers Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery are close to returning to the rotation. Both Cole and Montgomery tested positive for COVID-19, though they are expected to rejoin the team on the road this week, per manager Aaron Boone. The Yankee hurlers have been able to throw and work out together and are slated to toss bullpen sessions over the weekend, at which point the club will decide when they'll be able to rejoin the rotation. Cole and Montgomery rank 1-2 among qualified starters on the Yankee staff in innings pitched, strikeouts, and ERA, as they've been equally valuable to both the club and fantasy managers who roster them.

Tue Aug 3 202115:58Jordan Montgomery Tests Positive For COVID-19
New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery has tested positive for COVID-19, per Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. Montgomery is the second Yankees pitcher, along with Gerrit Cole, to test positive for the virus as the club's struggles with outbreaks continue. General manager Brian Cashman said he expects Montgomery and Cole to be sidelined for 10 days unless they can accrue two negative tests before then. It's a sudden test of New York's rotation depth with Domingo German (shoulder) also sidelined, which is likely why the team felt compelled to call up prospect Luis Gil, who will start Tuesday. Gil seems likely to make a couple of starts at the big league level until one or both of Cole and Montgomery are fit to return.

Sun Aug 1 202117:36Jordan Montgomery Pitches Five Solid Innings In No-Decision
New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery gave his team five strong innings in Sunday's no-decision against the Marlins. Montgomery held Miami to one run on just three hits while issuing one walk. The lefty struck out five while effectively utilizing his off-speed pitches, generating whiff rates of at least 38 percent on each of his curveball and changeup. Montgomery looks to be carrying his July success into August, as the previous month saw him record a 2.93 ERA with a 30:11 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 27 2/3 innings. He often doesn't get run support from the Yankee lineup but can still offer solid ratios and about a strikeout per inning even if he isn't racking up wins.

Fri Jul 30 202121:15Yankees get Angels lefty starter Heaney for 2 minor leaguers
MIAMI (AP) — The New York Yankees acquired Los Angeles Angels starter Andrew Heaney on Friday, adding a pitcher after making two big trades for sluggers. The Yankees got the 30-year-old lefty and cash for minor league right-handers Janson Junk and Elvis Peguero. New York began the day at 53-48, fourth in the AL wild-card race for two spots. As Friday's trade deadline approached, the Yankees got All-Star outfielder Joey Gallo from Texas and star first baseman Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs. Heaney was 6-7 with a 5.27 ERA in 18 starts for the Angels this year. He is 30-36 with a 4.57 ERA in eight seasons with Miami and Los Angeles — he posted his first big league win against the Yankees in 2015. Angels general manager Perry Minasian said one major reason for the move was the development of Reid Detmers, who will make his major-league debut on Saturday against Oakland. Detmers was the 10th overall pick in the 2020 draft, threw six shutout innings and struck out nine in his only start... [More]
