Nieuwenhuis is once again in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Nieuwenhuis has made the most of his recent playing and manager Terry Collins is rewarding him with another start Wednesday. While nothing formal has been said, Nieuwenhuis may be starting against righties while the incumbent, Juan Lagares, plays versus lefties.

Nieuwenhuis's mid-season rebirth continued with a mammoth performance. After his dismal start to the season, the month of July has been a complete heel turn for the Mets' left fielder. His OPS is up to 1.069 since the start of the month, and his batting average has jumped by .086, pushing him above the Mendoza line.

Nieuwenhuis went 1-for-4 with a two-run double and two strikeouts Wednesday against the Nationals.

After a brutal start to the year, Nieuwenhuis has started to show a lot of positive signs at the dish lately -- over the last 10 days, starting with his out-of-nowhere three-homer game, he's gone 7-for-21 (.333) with five extra-base hits. He's still a part-time player, but there's at least some value to be had in NL-only formats here.

Nieuwenhuis blasted home runs his first three times up on Sunday.

Nieuwenhuis' 2015 season has now come full circle. After beginning the season as the bench outfielder for the Mets, the veteran outfielder was designated for assignment and subsequently traded to the Angels. After a short stint with his new club, the same happened there, and the Mets claimed him off waivers. While he won't see consistent playing time in the outfield, he should see spotty playing time.

Nieuwenhuis was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday, ESPN New York reports.

Nieuwenhuis is set to join the team in advance of Monday's game against San Francisco, but a corresponding move is yet to be announced. After getting off to a disastrous 3-for-38 start with the Mets at the start of the season, Nieuwenhuis was DFA'd and subsequently dealt to the Angels. His stint with the Angels didn't last long, however, and the Mets eventually claimed him back off waivers. He's hit .293 with seven home runs in 58 at-bats for Las Vegas.

Nieuwenhuis has struggled this season, going 6-for-60 between the Mets and the Angels. Because he's out of options, he had to clear waivers to be sent straight to Triple-A Las Vegas. He will try to round back into form and eventually compete for an outfield spot for the Mets.
