RHP Alex Wilson was issued a four-game suspension for his role in a benches-clearing brawl against the New York Yankees on Thursday. RHP Alex Wilson survived a long fly ball that drifted just foul to turn in one of the biggest outings Tuesday in the Tigers' 6-5, 15-inning loss to Seattle. He then retired all three batters he faced to get out of the inning without any damage.

Wilson allowed one run on two hits while retiring just one batter to take a blown save against the Royals on Friday night.

Wilson was asked to try and finish off the Royals with two outs in the ninth because starter Justin Verlander was at 114 pitches, and has never had much success against the due hitter Salvador Perez (21-for-44 against Verlander in his career). Two pitches later, Perez had launched his 20th home run, and the game was tied.

Wilson recorded the final out of the seventh inning Tuesday against Kansas City to earn his fifth hold of the season.

The right-hander came back out for the eighth but only faced one batter, Lorenzo Cain, who singled and later came around to score. Meanwhile, Bruce Rondon got the ninth inning, pitching a scoreless frame en route to this third save of the year. Rondon has struggled lately -- he had given up six runs in his last five appearances entering Tuesday -- but it appears he, and not Wilson, is currently manager Brad Ausmus' preferred ninth-inning option.
