Indians star Francisco Lindor said he was told his line drive put a 3-year-old boy in the hospital."It's a great idea," White Sox pitcher Evan Marshall said. "It's a shame it wasn't done sooner and just almost a standard across baseball, I think. Finally the players are speaking out because everybody is tired of seeing people get hit."It just sucks the air right out of the game and we see it happen. Wed May 29 201920:50ChiSox employee on wayward pitch: 'I thought I'd be close'
CHICAGO (AP) — Mary Ruich anticipated control issues."I knew it wasn't going to be good, but I thought I'd be close," she said Wednesday. "It was scary."The rookie right-hander threw one of the most wayward ceremonial first pitches ever when she plunked a team photographer standing close by, between the mound and first base line, prior to Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals. The ball went right off Darren Georgia's lens, nowhere near the plate.Ruich, a server in one of the Guaranteed Rate Field restaurants, earned the honor as a Chicago White Sox employee of the homestand, the team's version of employee of the month. She had no time to warm up or prepare — and it showed.Georgia was startled and swung back towards the plate as pitcher Evan Marshall — who was supposed to catch the pitch — put his glove up to his mouth to try and hide his laughter."When I saw the camera get bobbled," Ruich said, "I was like, 'Oh my God! Maybe nobody saw that. I'll just run away.'"No chance of that... [More]

Tue May 28 201922:18Look out! First pitch goes a bit awry for White Sox employee
CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago White Sox employee of the month got to throw out a first pitch. And, to put it mildly, she was just a little bit off target. The rookie right-hander uncorked one of the most wayward first pitches ever when she plunked a team photographer standing close by, between the mound and first base line prior to Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals. The ball went right off Darren Georgia's lens, nowhere near the plate. The woman covered her face with both hands and raised her arms. White Sox pitcher Evan Marshall, her intended catcher, put his hands over his head and then wrapped his left arm around her.Georgia told NBC Sports Chicago he and the camera were fine. The White Sox didn't identify the woman pitcher. But no doubt, her toss is certain to be replayed for years, right up there with the wild first pitch by rapper 50 Cent before a Pirates-Mets game at Citi Field — that came five years and one day earlier.___More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco will undergo additional tests on his bruised right elbow after he was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday.Carrasco was struck by Joe Mauer's line drive in the second inning of Saturday's 9-3 loss to Minnesota. The injury is a big blow for the Indians, whose strong rotation has kept them on top of the AL Central. The 31-year-old Carrasco, who is 8-5 with a 4.24 ERA in 15 starts, will have imaging procedures Monday to determine if he sustained more serious damage, including whether he has a fracture."That's what they would certainly be looking for," manager Terry Francona said.
