Wed Jul 13 202209:06Jonah Heim Battling Non-COVID Illness
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim (illness) was unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Oakland Athletics. He is dealing with a non-COVID illness, according to Rangers reporter Jeff Wilson. Sam Huff wound up getting the start behind the plate for Tuesday's contest. Heim has been swinging a hot bat so far in July. Over 10 games this month, he's slashed .364/.382/.545 with a pair of home runs. The 27-year-old owns a .266/.318/.477 slash line to go along with 12 homers, 31 RBI and 32 runs over 65 games on the year.

Sat Jun 25 202212:30Jonah Heim Takes A Seat Saturday
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Washington Nationals. It's just a normal day of rest for Heim, but make sure to remove him from all fantasy lineups. The 26-year-old switch-hitting backstop is hitting just .184 (7-for-38) with two home runs, seven RBI and nine strikeouts in 10 games over the last two weeks. Overall, though, he's been a solid fantasy catcher because of his power (nine home runs), and he's hitting a respectable .244/.308/.458 with 26 RBI, 23 runs scored and even two stolen bases in 50 games played. Meibrys Viloria is doing the catching and hitting ninth on Saturday against Nationals right-hander Josiah Gray. Viloria is a low-upside DFS catching option who is hitting .215 on the year with only one home run in 181 at-bats.

Sat Jun 18 202210:48Jonah Heim Collects Three RBI Friday
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim played a key role in Friday's 7-0 defeat of the Detroit Tigers, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a walk. One of his hits was a fifth innings solo shot off of Tarik Skubal. Heim started the season backing up fellow catcher Mitch Garver, but with the latter on the injured list, Heim's been playing almost every day. He hasn't disappointed over 46 games this season, batting .250 with eight home runs, 21 runs, 25 RBI, and two stolen bases. Fantasy managers can continue starting Heim while he's guaranteed a starting job.

Sun Apr 3 202200:09Jonah Heim Makes Rangers Opening Day Roster
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim will be on the Opening Day roster after Saturday's trade of fellow backstop Jose Trevino, according to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Heim, 26, made his debut last season, appearing in 82 games, but hit an unimpressive .196 with 10 HRs and three stolen bases. He will presumably back up recent acquisition Mitch Garver but could see a good amount of playing time if the former Twin, who has yet to play a full season in the big leagues, can't stay healthy. Fantasy managers shouldn't be drafting Heim but can monitor his playing time throughout the season. He's shown the ability to hit and, as recently as 2019, slashed .310/.385/.477 with nine home runs over 85 games split between Double and Triple-A.

Sat Sep 11 202122:50Jonah Heim Comes In Clutch On Saturday
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is looking like prime Babe Ruth at the plate these days. On Saturday, Heim went 2-for-3 with a go-ahead two-run home run and a double in the 8-6 win over the Oakland Athletics. Heim already has a few clutch hits off the Seattle Mariners this season. He apparently does his best hitting against divisional opponents late in games. Sadly, Heim is slashing .200/.240/.366 with nine home runs and 26 RBI this season. He won't be much of a fantasy option down the stretch.

Wed Aug 18 202111:52Jonah Heim Records Two Hits In Loss
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim has been red-hot versus the Seattle Mariners this season. He already has two walkoff home runs versus them, but sadly that didn't happen on Tuesday. Heim went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in the 3-1 loss to Seattle. This season, Heim is slashing .208/.245/.372 with eight home runs and 22 RBI in 66 games. He put together a few clutch performances, but won't be someone worth monitoring in fantasy formats.

Mon Aug 2 202110:48Jonah Heim Hits Another Walkoff Sunday
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is looking like prime Babe Ruth at the plate over the weekend. The 26-year-old hit a pair of home runs including a walkoff winner in the 10th inning on Saturday. Heim returned as the DH for Sunday's contest and continued his clutch ways at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with a walkoff homer in the ninth off righty Erik Swanson. Heim is slashing .227/.268/.386 with eight homers and 21 RBI this season. He isn't a reliable fantasy option, but at least he's having the best weekend of his life.

Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]

Sat Jul 3 202103:07Betts keys Dodgers' 9-run rally in win over Nationals
WASHINGTON (AP) — Mookie Betts hit a go-ahead single during a nine-run rally in the seventh inning after Washington ace Max Scherzer departed, and the Los Angeles Dodgers surged past the Nationals 10-5 Friday night for their seventh straight win. The Nationals lost slugger Kyle Schwarber in the second inning when he grabbed at his hamstring after a single. He hit a franchise-record 16 home runs in June. Julio Urías (10-3) allowed one earned run in six innings. Scherzer also allowed one earned run in six innings and struck out eight. Left-handed reliever Sam Clay (0-1) found trouble when he replaced Scherzer. Chris Taylor hit a leadoff double, a dribbler by pinch-hitter Albert Pujols scored him, and Austin Barnes was hit by a pitch. ANGELS 8, ORIOLES 7 ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani went deep twice to reach 30 homers this season and then scored the winning run on Jared Walsh’s two-out single in the ninth inning that lifted Los Angeles over Baltimore. Sat Jun 26 202103:50Nola ties record with 10 straight Ks, Phils, Mets split DH
Bryce Harper blew kisses at a booing crowd to punctuate his home run, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Mets 2-1 in eight innings Friday night for a doubleheader split after Aaron Nola matched a long-standing major league record with 10 straight strikeouts in the opener. Odúbel Herrera drove in the tiebreaking run with a groundout against reliever Sean Reid-Foley (2-1) in the eighth as both games took an extra inning to determine a winner. Nola tied Tom Seaver’s mark for consecutive strikeouts set 51 years ago, but the Mets rallied to win the first game 2-1 in eight innings on big hits by Francisco Lindor and Dominic Smith. Following a costly error by third baseman Alec Bohm in the bottom of the seventh, Archie Bradley (3-1) limited the damage and allowed only pinch-hitter James McCann’s tying sacrifice fly in the nightcap. In the opener, Seth Lugo (1-0) struck out three in the top of the eighth and stranded two runners for the NL East leaders, playing their third doubleheader... [More]

Sun Jun 13 202102:06Phillies top Yankees 8-7 for 3rd straight walkoff victory
Jean Segura scored Ronald Torreyes with an infield single in the 10th inning for his second straight game-ending hit and the Philadelphia Phillies got a third consecutive walkoff win with an 8-7 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday. After Yankees star DJ LeMahieu hit a tying, three-run homer in the ninth, Archie Bradley (2-1) pitched a perfect 10th to strand the designated runner. Travis Jankowski led off the bottom of the inning against Aroldis Chapman (4-2) by reaching on the pitcher’s error. Jankowski bunted, and Chapman fielded the ball, checked Torreyes at second, then huried a throw high to first. Torreyes advanced to third. Odubel Herrera popped out, then Segura hit a hard grounder to third baseman Gio Urshela, who dived toward the line to catch it but couldn’t relay the ball home ahead of Torreyes. Bryce Harper doubled, had two singles and drove in two for the Phillies, who have won five of six. Gary Sánchez hit a solo homer and had an RBI single, and Rougned Odor also... [More]
Tue Jun 8 202118:05Khris Davis DFA'd by Rangers, who want look at young players
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Khris Davis was designated for assignment Tuesday by the slumping Texas Rangers, a move more about the young team's standing than the struggles of the veteran slugger. Davis missed the first 34 games of the season because of a left quad strain, then hit .157 with two home runs and five RBIs in his 22 games. Texas got the 33-year-old Davis, who has a $16.75 million salary this season, when longtime starting shortstop Elvis Andrus was traded to Oakland in February. The Rangers recalled infielder/outfielder Eli White from Triple-A Round Rock. They have seven days to trade, release, or outright Davis to the minor leagues. General manager Chris Young and manager Chris Woodward both said the team needs to find out about its young players, and there will now be more opportunities to do that. “It's less about Khris Davis' performance and more about the club in general, the state of our group and where we are and what aligns with our goals for this year,” Young said. “This...
