Fri Jun 9 202321:51J.D. Davis Dealing With Hip Tightness
San Francisco Giants third baseman J.D. Davis (hip) is out of the lineup for Friday's meeting with the Cubs. The 30-year-old is battling right hip tightness. Considering he's hit .364 in 22 at-bats in June, the Giants are hoping he won't miss extended time moving ahead. Fantasy managers should consider Davis day-to-day. But in the meantime, Casey Schmitt will take over at third and face Marcus Stroman for the first time in his career.

Mon May 29 202321:30J.D. Davis Scores Twice Monday
San Francisco Giants third baseman J.D. Davis went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in a 14-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. Davis also walked twice and stole a base in the blowout win over the Pirates. The veteran's two-hit performance raises his batting average to .278 to go along with nine homers, 24 runs, 30 RBI, and a steal across 169 at-bats in 2023. Davis is providing solid power numbers for fantasy managers this season, making him a strong fantasy play most nights.

Sun May 7 202313:57J.D. Davis Not In The Lineup On Sunday
San Francisco Giants third baseman J.D. Davis is not in the lineup on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers. This looks like a routine day off for Davis, who's having an excellent start to the season for the Giants. He's rocking a .289/.358/.526 triple-slash line to go along with seven home runs and 19 RBI across 97 at-bats. Wilmer Flores is filling at third base and batting fifth against Adrian Houser.

Sat Apr 22 202314:02J.D. Davis Absent From The Lineup On Saturday
San Francisco Giants third baseman J.D. Davis is not in the lineup on Saturday against the New York Mets. This looks to be a routine day off for Davis, who is off to a scorching hot start for the Giants. The 29-year-old is slashing .306/.343/.532 with four home runs and 13 RBI over 62 at-bats. David Villar is starting at third base in place of Davis and batting fifth against Mets starter David Peterson.

Tue Apr 18 202310:37J.D. Davis Sticking At Cleanup
San Francisco Giants corner infielder J.D. Davis is off to a fantastic start in 2023, slashing .311/.360/.600 with four homers, seven runs, and 13 RBI over 14 games. His play has forced manager Gabe Kapler to move the 29-year-old up in the lineup, as he's batted cleanup every game since April 9, excluding one contest where he was in the three-hole. That significantly improves Davis' fantasy value, specifically in the RBI department. The former Houston Astros' draft pick has been an offensive threat since 2019 with a .825 OPS, so he has value in most formats right now.

Thu Apr 6 202317:29J.D. Davis Hits Grand Slam Thursday
San Francisco Giants infielder J.D. Davis went 3-for-6 with a grand slam in a 16-6 win over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. Davis finished the afternoon with two runs and five RBI in the blowout win. The grand slam, the second of Davis' career, had an exit velocity of 106.0 MPH and traveled 408 feet. The veteran infielder is off to a solid start in 2023, hitting .313 with two homers, four runs, and six RBI across 16 at-bats. Davis is worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues while he's swinging a hot bat.

Wed Aug 3 202218:44J.D. Davis To Play On Wednesday
San Francisco Giants third baseman J.D. Davis is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Davis was traded to the Giants on Tuesday in exchange for slugger Darin Ruf. Now, he'll start at third base and bat fifth versus lefty Julio Urias on Wednesday. Davis should see plenty of at-bats against left-handed pitching down the stretch. He's hitting .238/.324/.359 with four homers and 21 RBI through 66 games this season. The hope is that a change of scenery will spark his bat, but he might only play a platoon role with San Francisco.

Tue Aug 2 202216:08Giants Acquire J.D. Davis From Mets
The San Francisco Giants are acquiring J.D. Davis and prospects from the New York Mets in exchange for veteran first baseman/outfielder Darin Ruf, according to Andy Martino of SNY. Davis has been relegated to mainly serving as the Mets' DH this season, slashing just .238/.324/.359 with four homers, a 9.7 BB%, and a woeful 31.4 K%. He might see a slight uptick in usage with the Giants, but he still doesn't produce enough to justify rostering him in fantasy leagues.

Tue May 24 202213:28J.D. Davis Tallies Four Hits
New York Mets third baseman J.D. Davis had a four-hit game against the San Francisco Giants Monday night, adding two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored in five at-bats. In doing so, he raised his slash line for the season to .230/.326/.351. Davis has been among the unluckiest hitters in baseball, with not much to show for his excellent hard-hit rate, but it's notable that he was in the starting lineup against the right-handed Alex Cobb, so perhaps more plate appearances, and more production, are soon to come.

Tue May 3 202214:46J.D. Davis Isn't Starting Game 1 On Tuesday
New York Mets third baseman J.D. Davis isn't in the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. The 29-year-old is batting .200 with a .333 on-base percentage, a home run, and a stolen base in 36 plate appearances this season. Davis previously started Monday's contest against Atlanta but will be on the bench for Tuesday's first game with Eduardo Escobar starting at third base and Francisco Lindor at designated hitter. Escobar and Lindor are batting fifth and third respectively.

Thu Apr 28 202207:58Initial X-Rays On J.D. Davis's Foot Come Back Negative
New York Mets third baseman J.D. Davis (foot) was hit by a pitch in his foot during Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. After the game, he had X-rays on his foot and the X-rays came back negative. However, Davis stated on Wednesday that he was "extremely sore." Consider him day-to-day at this point. The Mets are off on Thursday before opening a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.

Wed Apr 27 202216:34J.D. Davis Hit By Pitch, Leaves Wednesday's Game
New York Mets third baseman J.D. Davis (ankle) was removed from Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He was hit by a pitch in his left ankle/foot area. He first attempted to hobble over to first base, but couldn't make it and was taken out of the game alongside a trainer. Jeff McNeil came on to run for him. Davis is celebrating his 29th birthday on Wednesday, so it's certainly unfortunate timing for him. He should be considered day-to-day until we know more. The Mets are luckily off on Thursday, so he'll have an extra day to recover.

Fri Mar 11 202209:39J.D. Davis Could Be On The Move
New York Mets infielder/outfielder J.D. Davis is among one of the top trade candidates for the team, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post. Puma reports that prior to the lockout, there were a number of teams that expressed interest in Davis, including the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics. Davis can play a number of positions, but the Mets have a bit of a roster clog right now and Davis doesn't have a clear path to an everyday role. The 28-year-old slashed .285/.384/.436 with five home runs, 23 RBI and 18 runs over 73 games last year. Puma also mentioned Jeff McNeil and Dominic Smith as potential trade candidates.

Sun Oct 3 202108:24J.D. Davis Will Undergo Surgery Once Season Concludes
New York Mets third baseman J.D. Davis (hand) will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left hand once the season concludes. "I was being told it shouldn't take that long to heal, so I thought I could gut it out for the rest of the season, but after getting two injections and completing months of rehab, it just never got better," said Davis. The 28-year-old was placed on the 10-day injured list on September 23 and had been limited to 73 games due to issues with his left hand in 2021. Davis slashed .285/.384/.436 with five home runs, 23 RBI, and 18 runs over 211 plate appearances this season. Jonathan Villar will continue to handle third base duties for the Mets during the season's final game on Sunday.

Mon Sep 27 202108:48J.D. Davis Lands On Injured List With Hand Sprain
The New York Mets placed third baseman J.D. Davis (hand) on the 10-day injured list due to a left hand sprain on Sunday. The move is retroactive to September 23. He will technically be eligible to return for the team's season finale, but it seems likely that he is done for the regular season. This is the fourth time his left hand injury has caused a stint on the injured list this season. He's only managed to play in 73 games this year and he's slashed .285/.384/.436 with five home runs, 23 RBI and 18 runs. Jonathan Villar figures to be the team's primary third baseman for the final week of the year.

Thu Sep 2 202119:07J.D. Davis Isn't In Thursday's Lineup
New York Mets third baseman J.D. Davis isn't in the starting lineup on Thursday. The Mets will take on the Miami Marlins and right-hander Sandy Alcantara but will do so with Davis on the bench. The 28-year-old is hitting .297 with a .390 on-base percentage, five home runs, and a stolen base in 182 plate appearances this season. New York is starting Jonathan Villar at third base instead against the Marlins. Villar, who is batting leadoff on Thursday, is hitting .257 with a .331 on-base percentage, 16 home runs, and 10 stolen bases in 386 plate appearances this season. He's worth a look as a streaming option on Thursday despite the tough matchup against Alcantara.

Sat Aug 28 202110:57J.D. Davis Once Again Cooling Off At The Plate
New York Mets third baseman J.D. Davis went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in the Mets 2-1 loss to the Washington Nationals on Friday. Davis had begun to heat up at the plate during the Mets recent road trip on the west coast, but he has since cooled off. Davis is now hitting just .211/.318/.368 over his last seven games (19 at-bats) with one home run and four RBI. Much like the majority of the Mets offense, Davis has not done much at the plate in the month of August, despite the short hot streak on the team's last road trip. But for a solid on-base percentage, Davis is hitting just .265/.373/.382 with one home run and 10 RBI in August over 68 at-bats. Davis can be largely ignored in shallow mixed league formats at this point, especially given his overall poor counting stat production on the season which includes just five home runs and 21 RBI over 51 games.

Sun Aug 22 202121:30J.D. Davis Drives In Four On Sunday
New York Mets third baseman J.D. Davis went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, four RBI, and a walk in the Mets 7-2 win over the Dodgers on Sunday. The home run was Davis' fifth of the season and his first since July 17 when he hit two home runs in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Much like the majority of the Mets lineup, Davis has had a rough campaign in 2021, though he is heating up at the plate. Over his last seven games, Davis is batting .333/.367/.481 with one home run, six RBI, three runs scored, and one stolen base in 27 at-bats. Additionally, he is hitting .300/.405/.433 over the month of August (60 at-bats). If he has been dropped in deeper formats, fantasy managers may wish to take a flyer on Davis for the stretch run in September. Notably, the impending return of shortstop Francisco Lindor (oblique) from the injured list will also not likely impact Davis' playing time. Manager Luis Rojas told reporters after Sunday's game that infielder Jeff McNeil will likely shift to left field (rather than to third base) once Lindor returns. As such, any concern that Davis may lose at-bats would (at least presently) be misguided.

Tue Aug 17 202111:03J.D. Davis Picks Up Three Hits On Monday
New York Mets third baseman J.D. Davis went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the Mets latest loss, a 7-5 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco Giants on Monday. You wouldn't know it given the state of the Mets putrid inability to score runs, but Davis is red hot at the plate over his last seven games. He is hitting .409/.481/.545 with three RBI over his last seven games (22 at-bats). Despite this recent hot streak, Davis hasn't homered since July 17, when he hit two home runs in one game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road. While Davis offers solid offensive upside and he is hot right now, a recent lack of power dating back to early July and somewhat inconsistent playing time for a struggling offensive team makes him unstartable in shallow formats. Davis should really only be active in the deepest of mixed league and N.L.-only formats at this point.

Thu Aug 5 202101:20J.D. Davis Encounters Wrist Setback
New York Mets third baseman J.D. Davis (hand) experienced a flare-up with his left hand last week. It's the same injury that caused him to be placed on the injured list in April and cost him months of the season before returning on July 16. The injury figures to persist for the rest of the season. Davis has been successful in his limited time on the field this year, posting a .915 OPS with four home runs, but fantasy managers can expect Davis to need a greater than usual amount of rest for the remainder of the season.
