Tue Jul 5 202219:21Jon Berti Dealing With Lower-Extremity Tightness
Miami Marlins utility infielder Jon Berti has missed the last two games with lower-extremity tightness, but manager Don Mattingly is optimistic about baseball's stolen base leader returning on Wednesday. "He's been dealing with it, but I feel like the two days is going to be really beneficial," Mattingly said. "He's a guy that we don't want to lose at this point. He's been too valuable, does too many things. To push him today didn't make any sense." The 32-year-old has been a bright spot for the Fish and fantasy managers in 2022, but he has gone 2-for-23 over his last six games. Berti has a league-leading 25 stolen bases to go along with a .268/.363/.378 slash line and two home runs, 18 RBI and 29 runs scored. He has been filling in at second base with Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the injured list, but playing time might be harder to come by once Chisholm returns.

Sat Jun 25 202214:08Jon Berti Not Playing Against Mets
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the New York Mets. Berti will take a seat while in the middle of a nine-game hitting streak in which he's batting .351 with four RBI, five runs scored and nine stolen bases to bring his season slash line up to .292/.390/.416 in 42 games. He also has an .806 OPS with two home runs, 14 RBI, 26 runs scored and a league-high 21 stolen bases. The 32-year-old has been great for fantasy managers and has been seeing regular playing time at third base with both Joey Wendle and Brian Robinson on the injured list. However, his playing time could be cut soon with both Wendle and Robinson on the mend. Willians Astudillo is at third base and is hitting eighth on Saturday against Mets right-hander Chris Bassitt.

Tue May 17 202216:02Jon Berti Needs To Build Up Strength Before Return
Miami Marlins third baseman Jon Berti (illness) rejoined his teammates at the ballpark ahead of Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals. He has not yet been activated from the COVID-19 injured list. Berti told the media that he still needs some time to regain strength after a bout with COVID-19. The 32-year-old was placed on the COVID-19 injured list a little over a week ago. He was hitting well before catching the virus as he slashed .300/.440/.550 over his first 17 games of the year, stealing two bases on three attempts.

Sat May 7 202221:27Jon Berti Lands On The Injured List
The Miami Marlins placed infielder Jon Berti on the injured list Saturday. He was placed on the injured list with no injury designation, which is the same consistent pattern when a player is dealing with COVID. The 30-year-old either tested positive for COVID-19 or came in close contact with someone who was infected. He is slashing .300/.440/.550 with two home runs, four RBI, 10 runs, and two stolen bases over 17 games in 2022. Miami called up infielder Joe Dunand from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. Dunand slashed .255/.368/.426 across 14 games in Triple-A this season.

Mon Aug 9 202120:47Jon Berti Slowly Increasing Baseball Activities
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti (head) is increasing baseball activities as he is able to tolerate it, according to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com. Berti has been on the concussion injured list since being hit in the back of the head by a pitch three weeks ago. He's been an OK option in deeper formats for his speed this year, as he's slashing .210/.311/.313 with four homers, eight steals, 19 RBI and 35 runs scored over 85 games. There's still no timetable for his return, and he will almost certainly require a rehab assignment before being activated.

Sun Jun 27 202117:50No fuss: Scherzer goes 6 to help Nationals beat Marlins 5-1
MIAMI (AP) — This time, Max Scherzer didn’t come unbuckled. The Nationals' ace allowed one run in six innings and passed two umpire inspections without a fuss, helping Washington beat the Miami Marlins 5-1 on Sunday to earn a split of their four-game series. Scherzer (7-4) struck out seven and lowered his ERA to 2.14. The three-time Cy Young Award winner, who threatened to disrobe when baseball began its crackdown on sticky substances, underwent two brief examinations at the end of innings and didn't complain — at least not to the ump. “He checked my hat, checked my glove, checked my belt,” Scherzer said with a frown. “Whatever. Whatever.” Scherzer has said the MLB crackdown has made it more difficult to grip and control pitches. “Everybody is getting used to it,” he said. “Everybody is having to deal with it. I'm not going to sit here and make excuses about it. Everybody has to play under these rules now.” Helping Scherzer's mood were opposite-field two-run homers by Trea Turner and Josh... [More]
