LHP Cody Reed, 25, was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. He began the season in the Reds' bullpen. He was optioned to Louisville on May 4 and ended the season 4-9 with a 3.55 ERA with 102 strikeouts and 61 walks in 106 1/3 innings. He's 1-1 with a 6.43 ERA in seven appearances (one start) for the Reds.

LHP Cody Reed was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. Reed had a discussion with manager Bryan Price prior to Wednesday night's game about command and throwing strikes. He then went out and walked four batters in two innings, giving him 11 walks in his past six innings. "The one thing we want to send to everybody in our organization is that you have to be able to throw strikes," Price said. "That's the No. 1 prerequisite"

LHP Cody Reed will be moved to the bullpen with RHP Rookie Davis rejoining the rotation on Wednesday. He pitched eight scoreless innings in relief to start the season before allowing seven runs over two innings in a start against the Cubs on Saturday.

LHP Cody Reed had five full counts and walked five batters in his two innings Saturday against the Cubs. He was charged with seven earned runs and allowed two homers. "I've had good starts before,'' Reed said. "I'm just not executing what I need to do. We score, what, (eight) runs and we lose? That's tough." Manager Bryan Price said a decision will be made in regard to Reed who pitched well out of the bullpen, retiring his final 18 batters in three prior relief appearances before Saturday's start. "He didn't throw it nearly as well today as he had been," Price said. "It's hard to ask your bullpen to come in and go seven scoreless. It's hard to overcome two three-run homers and a grand-slam."

LHP Cody Reed is returning to the rotation Saturday against the Cubs. Reed began the season with eight straight scoreless innings, all in relief. He has four walks and eight strikeouts. "He's throwing three pitches for strikes, but the key is he's keeping himself in better counts," manager Bryan Price said. Reed had a 7.36 ERA in 10 starts last season and lost some confidence along the way. This year, Price has used him in the bullpen to get acclimated. "Utilizing the bullpen as a transition piece to get guys back into the rotation is a good idea," Price said. "You don't have to manage the four days between starts. When your number is called, you don't have time to think about it. It's a good segue."
