Sat Jul 10 202121:49Braves beat Marlins 5-4; Acuńa carted off with leg injury
MIAMI (AP) — Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. was carted off the field in tears with an apparent right leg injury during Atlanta’s 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday. Acuña landed awkwardly on his right leg after jumping on the warning track in right field to try to catch a drive from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the fifth inning. He slammed into the outfield wall and crumbled on the warning track, immediately grabbing toward his right knee while Chisholm sprinted out an inside-the-park homer. The 23-year-old Acuña did not put any weight on his right leg and had to be helped to a cart before being taken from the field. No further details on the extent of the injury were immediately available. Freddie Freeman had a two-run homer and an RBI single, while Dansby Swanson and Austin Riley ripped doubles as the first three Braves reached base off All-Star pitcher Trevor Rogers (7-6) in the fourth inning. Atlanta has won three straight over Miami. Max Fried (6-5) gave up three consecutive hits after... [More]

Mon Jun 7 202102:44LEADING OFF: Voth hurt, Nats manager worries about more
A look at what's happening around the majors today: STICKY SITUATION Nationals reliever Austin Voth was sent to a Philadelphia hospital to get his nose reset after it was broken when he was hit by a pitch while squaring around to bunt. Voth was hurt Sunday in a 12-6 loss to the Phillies. Hit by a pitch from Vince Velasquez, Voth exited with a towel covering a gash across his nose after the ball appeared to deflect off the bill of his batting helmet. Washington manager Dave Martinez warned such injuries might become more frequent if Major League Baseball follows through on plans to crack down on pitchers using foreign substances to maintain a better grip on the baseball. “I hate to bring it up, but you will see more of that if we keep messing around with the stuff about the balls,” Martinez said. “I mean, really. They’ve been trying to clean some stuff up. But it’s hot, it’s slippery, guys are sweaty. “I know that Velasquez didn’t throw intentionally. But I’m afraid that if we don’t come... [More]

Sun Jun 6 202116:24Longoria out at least 6 weeks with left shoulder sprain
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants placed Evan Longoria on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder sprain before Sunday's series finale against the Chicago Cubs. He’s expected to miss at least six weeks. Infielder Thairo Estrada was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take Longoria's place on the roster. Longoria, who was hitting .280 with nine home runs and 30 RBIs, was injured late in Saturday’s win over the Cubs, colliding with shortstop Brandon Crawford in the ninth inning as both players tried to field a ground ball. Crawford was fine afterward though he was not in Sunday’s starting lineup. “It was very emotional after the game for all of us,” Giants manager Gabe Kapler said. “He was swinging the bat well. It's a major challenge to fill his shoes.” ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Sun Apr 11 202114:35Clean-shaven Odor makes debut for Yankees against Rays
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Rougned Odor was in the lineup for the New York Yankees for the first time Sunday, sporting a new look that includes more than a uniform change. The clean-shaven infielder complied with his new team’s longstanding facial hair policy by getting rid of the long beard he rocked with the Texas Rangers, who traded him to the Yankees last week for minor league outfielders Antonio Cabello and Josh Stowers. “It was weird. I feel weird,” Odor said of being beardless. “Even my daughter, she didn’t even want to look at me. It is what it is. I’m happy to be here.” The 27-year-old cleared in-take protocol and was added to the roster Saturday. He started at second base and batted sixth in Sunday’s finale of a weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Odor, who did not make the Rangers’ opening day roster and was designated for assignment on April 1, was excited to be joining a team he said “every kid wants to grow up and play” for. “When I found out I got traded to this team... Wed Apr 7 202100:33Infielder Rougned Odor traded from Rangers to Yankees
NEW YORK (AP) — Infielder Rougned Odor was traded Tuesday from the Texas Rangers to the New York Yankees for minor league outfielders Antonio Cabello and Josh Stowers. The 27-year-old Odor did not make the Rangers’ opening day roster and was designated for assignment on April 1. He is a left-handed hitter, and the Yankees have a mostly right-handed lineup. “Hopefully we can help him get that talent out that we've seen flash over the years,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. Odor is a second baseman but also played third at spring training. He has two guaranteed seasons at $12 million each remaining as part of a $49.5 million, six-year contract. The deal includes a $13.5 million team option for 2023 with a $3 million buyout. Texas will pay the Yankees $11,060,806 to cover all but a prorated share of the $570,500 minimum this year and all but the 2022 minimum, which is still to be negotiated, a cash amount that currently projects to $11,429,500. Texas would pay New York an additional $3 million... [More]

Sat Mar 6 202118:05Yankees' Boone back on bench 3 days after pacemaker inserted
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone returned to the dugout Saturday, three days after surgery to have a pacemaker inserted. “It felt good just to be at the ballfield again, competing with the guys,” he said after managing New York's 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Boone, who turns 48 in a few days, left the club Wednesday to get the pacemaker at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He returned to camp Saturday after clearing COVID-19 protocols and said he feels great — especially so when he watched ace Gerrit Cole cruise through a simulated game at the team’s spring training facility in Tampa. “Good to come watch Gerrit Cole pitch,” Boone said with a grin. “That’s a good way to get back into it.” Boone — who says his only restriction is he can’t raise his left hand over his head for about a month — then joined the team in nearby Bradenton for a rain-delayed exhibition game against the Pirates. “I was shocked to see him today,” said right-hander Jameson Taillon, who started against...
