Tue Aug 2 202216:20Tyler Mahle Going To The Twins
The Minnesota Twins acquired starting pitcher Tyler Mahle from the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday in exchange for shortstop Spencer Steer, third baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand and pitcher Steven Hajjar. Mahle will certainly bolster the Twins rotation as they look to make a deep postseason run this year. The 27-year-old right-hander has gone 5-7 with Cincy this year with a 4.40 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 114 strikeouts and 39 walks in 104 1/3 innings over 19 starts. The move from hitter-friendly Cincinnati to Minnesota and a much better offense will be great news for Mahle's second-half fantasy outlook as well. In three starts in July, Mahle allowed seven earned runs while striking out 17 and walking seven in 17 innings pitched, so he's been better of late.

Tue Aug 2 202211:24Twins, Phillies Interested In Tyler Mahle
The Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies are among the teams interested in Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Tyler Mahle, an underrated pitcher that has been very good of late. The rebuilding Reds dealt ace Luis Castillo to the Seattle Mariners last week for a big prospect haul, and they probably aren't done trading before Tuesday's deadline. Mahle and infielder Brandon Drury could both be gone at some point as well. Mahle is 5-7 overall with a 4.40 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 114 strikeouts in 104 1/3 innings over 19 starts for the Reds this year. The 27-year-old right-hander hasn't allowed over three earned runs in his last four starts, striking out 24 and walking eight in that span. Mahle would gain more fantasy appeal if he were dealt to a contender.

Wed Jul 27 202216:32Twins Looking At Tyler Mahle, Among Other Starters
The Minnesota Twins are sitting in first place in the AL Central and they are reportedly considering bolstering their rotation with another starter before the upcoming trade deadline. According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic, Cincinnati Reds right-hander Tyler Mahle is one of the team's primary targets. Hayes stated that the team is "more interested" in Mahle than his teammate Luis Castillo, who is one of the most sought-after starters on the market. The Twins have also been linked to Frankie Montas and Pablo Lopez. The Twins are rarely aggressive buyers at the deadline, but we'll see if they can pull something off before next Tuesday evening.

Wed Jul 20 202211:03Tyler Mahle To Make His Return Sunday
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) will come off the 15-day injured list in order to start this Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Mahle will be ready to go to start the second half of the season after spending around the minimum time on the injured list due to a minor right shoulder strain. In 17 starts and 92 1/3 innings in the first half, the 27-year-old right-hander had a 4.48 ERA and 1.30 WHIP while striking out 102 and walking 36. The Reds will definitely be seller's before the Aug. 2 trade deadline, and there's a possibility that Mahle's fantasy value ticks up if he's traded to a contender by that date.

Wed Jul 6 202216:05Tyler Mahle Expects To Return Right After All-Star Break
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) stated on Wednesday that the MRI on his shoulder showed no major issues. He expects to return shortly after the All-Star break. Mahle landed on the injured list on Wednesday with a strained right shoulder. With the second half of the year resuming after the All-Star break on July 22, Mahle appears to be on track to miss a little over two weeks total -- but maybe only around 10 total games. The 27-year-old has made 17 starts this year and he's gone 3-7 with a 4.48 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP.

Wed Jun 15 202213:37Tyler Mahle Completes Nine Shutout Innings
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Tyler Mahle delivered a gem Tuesday night, though he was forced to take a no-decision in the 5-3 extra-inning victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mahle threw nine innings of shutout ball, giving up just three hits and striking out 12 batters. He's now delivered four consecutive quality starts, bringing his ERA and WHIP for the season to a more respectable 4.46 and 1.23 in 14 starts. He has just a 2-5 record, but he's bound to be traded before the deadline, and a spot in a better team's rotation would seriously improve his potential to earn wins for fantasy managers.

Mon May 23 202211:42Tyler Mahle, Brandon Drury Back From Restricted List
The Cincinnati Reds reinstated right-handers Tyler Mahle and Joel Kuhnel, infielder Brandon Drury and outfielder Albert Almora Jr. from the restricted list on Monday and optioned right-hander Graham Ashcraft, infielder Taylor Motter and outfielder Aristides Aquino to Triple-A Louisville in corresponding moves. Catcher Sandy Leon also returned to Louisville from the taxi squad. Mahle, Kuhnel, Drury and Almora were unable to travel to Canada for the team's weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays due to COVID-19 restrictions, but they'll rejoin the team for a series against the Chicago Cubs that starts on Monday. Fri May 20 202214:39Tyler Mahle, Brandon Drury Placed On Restricted List
The Cincinnati Reds placed right-handers Tyler Mahle and Joel Kuhnel, infielder Brandon Drury and outfielder Albert Almora Jr. on the restricted list on Friday ahead of their weekend series in Toronto against the Blue Jays. Players must be vaccinated for COVID-19 to enter Canada. Mahle wasn't scheduled to pitch in this series anyway, so fantasy managers don't need to worry about him. The 27-year-old right-hander should be back on the roster to make his next start early next week against the Chicago Cubs. Infielders Matt Reynolds and Alejo Lopez should see more playing time this weekend against the Blue Jays with Drury unavailable to play in all three games.

Wed Mar 23 202221:50Tyler Mahle Named Reds Opening Day Starter
Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell named right-hander Tyler Mahle as the team's Opening Day starter against the Atlanta Braves on April 7. With Sonny Gray traded to the Twins and Luis Castillo (shoulder) dealing with shoulder soreness, the Reds tabbed Mahle to start the team's opener. The 27-year-old was the subject of many trade rumors as the Reds had a firesale this offseason, dealing Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suarez, and Gray. Mahle is a central piece to the Reds' rotation, setting career-highs in wins (13), innings (180), and strikeouts (210) in 2021.

Wed Mar 16 202218:38Tyler Mahle Won't Be Traded This Offseason
Cincinnati Reds starter Tyler Mahle isn't expected to be traded despite the team's ongoing fire sale, general manager Nick Krall told Bobby Nightengale Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Krall, who noted that the team still intends to add to its roster, won't trade Luis Castillo, either. This development comes after the Reds traded Sonny Gray, Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suarez, Amir Garrett, and Francis Peguero within the course of four days. Clearly, Cincinnati isn't in a position to be competitive this season, so perhaps they'll let Mahle build up his trade value and then shop him around at the trade deadline. The right-hander had quite the impressive 2021 season, going 13-6 with a 3.75 ERA, 24.7 percent strikeout rate, and 8.4 percent walk rate.

Fri Feb 18 202220:38Blue Jays Had Interest In Tyler Mahle
The Toronto Blue Jays were very interested in trading for Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Tyler Mahle prior to MLB's lockout in early December, according to a source. The Blue Jays have Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman and Hyun Jin Ryu atop their 2022 starting rotation, with Alek Manoah, who impressed in his rookie season, slated to be the No. 4. If Toronto doesn't pry Mahle away from the Reds, veteran swingman Ross Stripling and former top prospect Nate Pearson would be battling for the fifth spot. However, Pearson will be on an innings cap this year and is more likely to wind up in the bullpen down the stretch. Thomas Hatch, ... [More]
