Hudson (shoulder) threw three simulated innings on the bullpen mound Friday, CSN Bay Area reports.
The right-hander impressed manager Bruce Bochy, who said Hudson "looked really good" during his time on the mound. Hudson appears to have a chance to return shortly after the All-Star break in light of his progress, but the team has no immediate plans to send him on a minor league rehab assignment.

Hudson, who is away from the team for personal reasons, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a shoulder strain.
Hudson has reportedly dealt with some added soreness throughout the season, and with Jake Peavy (back) coming off the disabled list, the Giants need to boot someone from the rotation. This move has been discussed for at least the couple few weeks, and while there's no guarantee Hudson gets his rotation spot back when he's eligible to return, the Giants will probably have need of him again this season. He'll be eligible for reinstatement July 12, but the Giants will presumably wait until the second half of the season.
Fri Jul 3 201511:55Tim Hudson: (Shoulder) Placed On DL
San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Hudson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder strain.
San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Hudson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder strain. Hudson has been dealing with soreness in his shoulder throughout the season, and with added rest he could rejoin the rotation after the All-Star break.

Hudson will leave the team for roughly one week on Wednesday to deal with a "personal situation," Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.
Hudson's temporary departure from the team could lead to him being placed on the bereavement list, although the team has not made an official announcement at this point. The Giants will be losing Tim Lincecum to the disabled list on Thursday to begin with, but will also be getting Matt Cain and Jake Peavy back from the DL in the coming days.

Hudson (5-7) gave up five runs on 10 hits over 6.2 innings in an 8-6 loss to the Rockies on Friday.
Hudson looked good through five scoreless innings, but was undone in the sixth, allowing a three-run bomb to Nolan Arenado, and things didn't get better from there. There's some talk about Hudson -- who has been experiencing some general soreness -- hitting the DL just to get some rest, and with a performance like this, it may be warranted. The .291 average he's allowed against tells you that he's not fooling anyone, and some time off may be just what the crafty veteran needs.
Fri Jun 26 201518:24Hudson (soreness) confirmed as Friday's starter against Rockies
Hudson (soreness) has been confirmed as Friday's starter against the Rockies.
The 39-year-old has already shown signs of slowing down, struggling to a 4.24 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB in four June starts, and there has been talk that he could wind up on the DL after Friday's outing. With Jake Peavy (back) expected back after one more rehab start, the Giants can afford to give Hudson some rest.
Tue Jun 23 201520:22Hudson figures to make one more start
Hudson figures to make one more start, Friday against the Rockies, before possibly ending up on the disabled list to get some rest, MLB.com's Chris Haft reports.
Jake Peavy will need to make one more rehab start, which presumably means Hudson will get one more start with the Giants before heading to the disabled list. It is a home start against the Rockies, so it is not a complete stay away, but the upside is limited due to his lack of bat-missing stuff.
Sun Jun 21 201520:23Hudson may soon be placed on disabled list to get some rest
Hudson may soon be placed on the disabled list to get some rest, CSN Bay Area reports.
Jake Peavy (back) is expected to rejoin the rotation next weekend against the Rockies, with Matt Cain (forearm) not too far behind. Hudson has struggled since the middle of last season, and he's reportedly needed extra treatment throughout the year. Even if Hudson is placed on the disabled list, the Giants will likely also need to demote either Tim Lincecum or Ryan Vogelsong to the bullpen.

Hudson (5-6) picked up the win against the Dodgers on Saturday with 6.1 innings of two-run ball. He allowed six hits and two walks while striking out three.
As he approaches his 40th birthday, Hudson is posting some of the worst numbers of his career, with a 4.52 ERA that's his highest since 2006 and a 4.68 FIP that's his highest ever. As usual, he's not missing many bats, but the veteran continues to eat innings for the Giants with his groundball-oriented approach. Hudson's next start comes Friday at home against the Rockies.

Hudson fell to 4-6 after giving up three runs on eight hits over five innings Monday against Seattle. He struck out three and walked one.
Hudson induced nine ground balls and 10 swinging strikes, but the balls kept finding the holes -- all eight hits were singles. It's rough luck for Hudson but also part of the deal when you don't strike batters out -- Hudson has just 40 strikeouts now in 79.1 innings.

Hudson (4-5) picked up the win despite giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings Wednesday against the Mets. He struck out just one batter.
Well, that's about as unimpressive as you can be in a win -- Hudson was fortunate to escape with just the four runs of damage, as he was in trouble throughout this start. As he approaches his 40th birthday, Hudson's lost a lot of his fantasy appeal, as his high-contact approach has yielded unattractive ratios that don't promise to get much better. He'll next draw a home gig against the Mariners on Monday.

Hudson (3-5) struck out a season-high-tying six and allowed just two runs on seven hits over seven innings, but took the loss Wednesday against Pittsburgh.
Hudson has been nearly useless in most fantasy leagues this year, with his propensity for getting blown up and general lack of strikeouts, but sometimes he turns in an outing reminiscent of the good old days. He also helped his cause with a double and a run scored. Hudson's put together a couple strong efforts in a row, and he'll next draw a Mets team that he's beaten more times (17) than any other franchise.

Hudson (3-4) picked up his third win of the season as he held his former team to just one run over seven innings. He struck out four while walking none in the win over the Braves.
Hudson bounced back after a rough start in Colorado with a gem at home. His 4.64 ERA and 4.3 K/9 won't inspire confidence in fantasy owners, but his 4.05 home ERA (0.68 ERA over last two) make him stream-worthy at AT&T Park in deeper leagues. Coincidentally, his next start comes against the Pirates at home this Wednesday.

Hudson was blown up for eight runs on six hits and two walks through just 3.2 innings against the Rockies on Sunday. The loss dropped his record to 2-4 on the season.
The 39-year-old was coming off a shutout victory in his last start, so Sunday's performance was disappointing, although he was pitching at Coors Field. Hudson's ERA ballooned to 5.07 on the season after his Sunday struggles, and he will try to right the ship against the Braves on Friday.

Hudson (2-3) picked up the win Tuesday, tossing 6.1 innings of shutout ball with two strikeouts against the Dodgers.
Hudson bounced back nicely after a rough stretch of allowing three earned runs or more over his last six outings. He definitely took advantage of a cold night in San Francisco, but he likely won't find the same success during his next start in Colorado this Sunday.

Hudson allowed three runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings against the Astros on Wednesday.
Hudson rebounded after giving up six runs in his last start Thursday, but he still has allowed at least three runs in his last six starts. The 39-year-old is struggling, and we'll see if he can steady himself in his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Hudson (1-3) gave up 15 hits and six runs while striking out three in 6.2 innings Thursday against the Marlins.
Hudson allowed a career-high 15 hits as the Giants lost their second straight after winning 10 of the previous 13. In his previous six starts against the Marlins, Hudson had won every single one. The 40-year-old veteran has a 4.50 ERA for the season and he'll pitch again Wednesday at Houston.

Hudson picked up his first win of the season Saturday, tossing eight innings and allowing three runs on just two hits (both home runs) and two walks, with three strikeouts.
The Angels took advantage of the few baserunners Hudson gave them, but the Giants still held on for the win. Hudson's mediocre 16:9 K:BB ratio in 33.1 innings limits his fantasy value in most formats, but his 3.78 ERA and 1.14 WHIP won't hurt your staff in a deep league. He gets an enticing home start against the Marlins in his next turn through the rotation.
Fri May 1 201513:47Tim Hudson: Leaning Towards Retirement After 2015
Hudson is "definitely leaning" towards retiring at the end of the 2015 season, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports.
Hudson has spent the last five years as a serviceable starter for the Giants and Braves, but he hasn't put up a sub-3.00 ERA since 2010. With World Series ring in hand, it could finally be time to hang up the cleats.

Hudson dropped to 0-2 on the season after giving up five runs on six hits over five innings in Sunday's loss to Arizona.
While Hudson exhibited his usual great control Sunday (57 strikes - 26 balls), he wasn't able to command his pitches, leaving too many up in the zone. Paul Goldschmidt made him pay with a two-run shot in the first inning, and the Diamondbacks never looked back. Things don't get any easier for Hudson, as his next start comes against the red-hot Rockies at Coors Field this Saturday.
