Tue Aug 27 201300:01Barry Zito gives up five runs in loss
Barry Zito was tagged for five runs in four innings by the Rockies on Monday.
Zito latest failure might get him pulled from the rotation once and for all. He's typically been pretty good in Coors Field in his career, but he gave up two homers tonight, one apiece to Todd Helton and Charlie Blackmon.

Fri Aug 23 201310:20Barry Zito will make his next start
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that Barry Zito will make his next scheduled start.
Zito was pounded for six runs in 3 2/3 innings Wednesday in his return to the rotation. He'll get another shot but will need to show improvement in Colorado Monday to avoid being demoted to the bullpen again. Obviously, fantasy owners should stay far away.

Wed Aug 21 201318:53Barry Zito gives up six runs in loss
Making his return to the rotation, Barry Zito was tagged for six runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Red Sox in a loss Wednesday.
Zito didn't get much help from his defense today, but the bigger problem was that he just wasn't any good. The Giants said the plan was for him to stay in the rotation for the rest of the season. They may change their minds if he doesn't pitch better next time out.

Tue Aug 20 201318:46Barry Zito to start in place of Gaudin
Barry Zito will start on Wednesday against the Red Sox in place of the injured Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome).
Zito was booted from the rotation late last month, but injury has given him another shot. He should get at least a couple starts while Gaudin is on the shelf but should be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Wed Aug 14 201309:24Barry Zito clears waivers
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports Barry Zito has cleared waivers.
It's strictly a procedural move, but he's now free to be moved to any team. Because of his massive salary, Zito is unlikely to be traded. He was pulled from the Giants' rotation earlier this month and has a 5.40 ERA over 23 appearances (21 starts) this season.

Fri Aug 2 201317:50Zito officially pulled from Giants' rotation
Giants manager Bruce Bochy announced Friday that Barry Zito has been pulled from the starting rotation.
That's been the assumption for a couple of days now, but Bochy finally acknowledged that Zito will pitch out of the bullpen while Guillermo Moscosco will start Sunday against the Rays. He's weighing the possibility of a six-man rotation later this year, so he hasn't committed to how long Zito will be in the bullpen. "For how long, I couldn't tell you," said Bochy. "It was time for a change." Zito owns a 5.09 ERA in 21 starts this season.

Thu Aug 1 201317:59Bochy won't announce Sun. starter until Fri.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy will announce Friday who will start Sunday against the Rays.
Nothing is official yet, but it sure sounds like Barry Zito will be skipped and Guillermo Moscoso will start in his place. Both pitchers are available out of the bullpen Thursday. With Ryan Vogelsong close to coming off the disabled list, it sounds like that's where Zito will be for the foreseeable future.

Wed Jul 31 201318:36Barry Zito might not start this weekend
Giants manager Bruce Bochy wouldn't commit to using Barry Zito for his scheduled start on Sunday in Tampa.
Zito has been awful on the road this season, so the Giants are thinking about giving someone else a shot. Ryan Vogelsong (hand) isn't quite ready to return, so they could give Guillermo Moscoso or someone else a chance.

Tue Jul 30 201323:00Zito exits early again in loss to Phillies
Barry Zito allowed four runs in just 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Phillies on Tuesday.
Zito lost his fifth straight decision and fell to 4-8 on the year. The lefty allowed five hits and two walks while striking out just two in the outing. Despite his struggles -- he now owns a 5.09 ERA and 1.68 WHIP -- the Giants continue to run him out for lack of better starting options. For fantasy purposes, though, he should remain on the waiver wire.

Wed Jul 24 201302:03Zito allows three runs over 4 2/3 innings
Barry Zito was yanked after allowing three runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Reds.
He struck out four and walked three, hurling 84 pitches before an early exit cost Zito a victory. Zito entered the game 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA and 2.08 WHIP over three July starts, so a mediocre road start in a cozy ballpark against a powerful offense actually seems promising. Zito (4.92 ERA) is an NL-only pitcher at best.

Tue Jul 16 201314:03Barry Zito's rotation spot in jeopardy?
CSN Bay Area suggests Barry Zito's rotation spot could be in jeopardy.
Zito has struggled mightily on the road this season and currently owns a 4.88 ERA over his first 19 starts. The Giants don't have any obvious candidates to replace him, so he'll remain in the starting rotation for now. If Zito doesn't improve in the second half, he could be moved to the bullpen when Ryan Vogelsong returns from the disabled list.

Sun Jul 14 201319:57Zito pulled after two innings in latest start
Barry Zito lasted just two innings in his start Sunday against the Padres.
Zito allowed four runs on two walks and four hits before being pulled from the game. He continues to struggle on the road this season, where he has a 9.89 ERA. Zito has just one quality start in his last eight outings. The Giants need him to get back on track in the second half.

Wed Jul 10 201302:01Barry Zito gives up five runs to Mets
Barry Zito wasn't involved in the decision against the Mets after giving up five runs in six innings on Tuesday.
Zito actually started warming up a little at the end of Monday's 16-inning marathon against the Mets, but probably not enough to really slow him down today. That said, he did fade fast in this one, giving up all five runs in the second half of his outing. He's now gone seven straight starts without a victory, and his only quality start during that span came against the lowly Marlins. One can't count him out after last year, but it doesn't look like he'll resume being very useful in NL-only leagues in the second half.

Thu Jul 4 201300:21Zito lasts just four in no-decision vs. Reds
Barry Zito allowed one run on seven hits in four innings of a no-decision against the Reds on Wednesday.
It was an odd start, as Zito wasn't getting hit hard but wasn't efficient enough to make it through five innings. On the night he gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out three. His record remains 4-6 and he's now winless in his last six starts. He'll try to end the drought Monday against the Mets.

Fri Jun 28 201323:56Barry Zito gives up four runs in loss
Barry Zito was touched up for four runs in 5 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Rockies.
Zito allowed 10 hits, including two home runs. The veteran southpaw entered Friday's start with an 11.28 ERA in five starts on the road this season, so this was actually an improvement by comparison. He shouldn't be trusted in fantasy leagues with another tough road matchup against the Reds on tap for next week.

It took 11 innings for the defending World Series champions to wrap up the victory. He'll carry a 4.40 ERA and 1.56 WHIP into his next scheduled start against the Rockies (at Coors Field).

Wed Jun 12 201322:33Barry Zito rocked by Pirates Wednesday
Barry Zito was lit up for eight runs over 4 2/3 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Pirates.
The left-hander gave up a whopping 11 hits and issued one free pass. Zito had a 2.75 ERA after his May 8 start. It's now up to 4.79 after he allowed 27 runs over his last six outings. He can't be trusted next weekend against the Padres.

Wed Jun 5 201318:25Barry Zito falls to 4-4 Wednesday
Barry Zito allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks over six frames in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays.
Zito didn't strike out a batter and needed 101 pitches to cover the six innings. He allowed just one extra-base hit, and all four runs were scored in the fifth inning, but that was enough. Zito has just one win in his last eight starts and will take an underwhelming 4.06 ERA and 1.53 WHIP into Pittsburgh next week.
