Butler will start against left-handed pitchers and could some starts against right-handers, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Butler currently has a .973 to .686 OPS disparity against lefties vs. righties in 2015, but he actually hit much better against right-handers in 2013, his last full season in the minors. Still, he figures to see a decent amount of starts until John Jaso returns as the primary left-handed DH.

Butler will serve as the DH and bat fifth in the order Sunday against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Butler was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Sunday.
Butler will take the roster spot of Desmond Jennings (knee), who was placed on the 15-day DL in a corresponding move. The 29-year-old Butler certainly earned the promotion, posting an .892 OPS and 15 RBI over the first 22 games of the year for the Bulls. His 21 strikeouts compared to just 10 walks is a bit troubling, however. He'll provide depth at the position until the team is back at full strength.

Cardinals released OF Joey Butler.
They have sold Butler's contract to the Orix Buffalo's of the Japanese Nippon Professional Baseball League. Butler hit .360/.481/.547 at Triple-A Memphis and earned a brief call-up, but he was a bad fit in an organization that has plenty of outfield depth both in the majors and minors.

Cardinals sent OF Joey Butler outright to Triple-A Memphis.
The Cards claimed Butler off waivers last October from the Rangers and invited him to spring training, where he hit .211/.318/.263 over 13 games. He's in a bad situation, as the outfield with the big club and the outfield at Memphis is awfully crowded.
