Mon Aug 29 202211:05Yasmani Grandal Has Three Hits In Doubleheader Sunday
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (knee) went 3-for-7 with a home run and four RBI in both games of a doubleheader on Sunday during his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. Grandal's injury wasn't considered very serious at the time he was placed on the 10-day injured list, and he looks to be doing just fine on his rehab assignment. Fantasy managers should expect him to return to the big leagues at some point this week, where he'll share catching duties in Chicago with Seby Zavala. However, Grandal has done very little with the lumber in the majors this year, slashing just .203/.307/.259 with three home runs, 21 RBI, nine runs scored and a stolen base in 251 at-bats.

Sat Aug 27 202211:53Yasmani Grandal Records Two Hits In Rehab Game
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (knee) went 2-for-4 in his first minor league rehab game on Friday night with Triple-A Charlotte. Grandal landed on the injured list this month with a left knee strain, but the injury isn't considered very serious, so he could return to the White Sox's lineup sooner than later. Chicago may not want to rush him back, though, as he's hit just .203/.307/.259 with three home runs, 21 RBI, nine runs scored and a stolen base in 251 at-bats in 2022. Seby Zavala, who has been much better offensively this year, will continue to do the majority of the catching for the Pale Hose until Grandal is deemed healthy enough to return to the big leagues.

Mon Aug 22 202216:40Yasmani Grandal Looks Fine
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (knee) was walking around the clubhouse on Monday like nothing ever happened to his knee. "It's amazing," skipper Tony La Russa said. Grandal left the clubhouse on Sunday on crutches. He's getting treatment but is also "taking a few swings" in the cages, according to La Russa. The White Sox placed the 33-year-old veteran on the 10-day injured list on Sunday after he was injured on a slide on Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians. Unless he suffers a setback, it sounds as though Grandal has a great chance to return when he's eligible. With Grandal sidelined, Seby Zavala should be the team's primary backstop. Grandal has struggled mightily at the plate in 2022, slashing .203/.307/.259 with three homers, 21 RBI and nine runs scored in 251 at-bats.

Sun Aug 21 202216:22Yasmani Grandal Avoids Serious Injury
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday. He underwent further testing which revealed no major damage to his left knee. The organization believes that Grandal can return to action within the next 10-14 days. The 33-year-old has done very little at the plate this season, so fantasy managers should be able to find a better option. Grandal should be back on the field within the next two weeks.

Sun Aug 21 202211:06Yasmani Grandal Placed On Injured List
The Chicago White Sox placed catcher Yasmani Grandal (knee) on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a left knee strain and selected the contract of catcher Carlos Perez from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. The team also moved right-hander Kyle Crick to the 60-day injured list. Grandal was injured sliding into home plate on Saturday and will now miss at least the next 10 days. The 33-year-old left-handed hitter has done very little for fantasy managers in 2022, hitting .203/.307/.259 with three homers, 21 RBI and nine stolen bases in 251 at-bats. Seby Zavala should take over the primary catching duties for the White Sox with Grandal sidelined. Zavala has been much better offensively, hitting .279/.326/.395 with two long balls, 18 RBI and 15 runs in 129 at-bats.

Sun Aug 21 202200:12Yasmani Grandal Leaves With Knee Discomfort
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal exited Saturday's contest with knee discomfort after getting thrown out on a play at home plate. The veteran was helped off the field and was unable to put weight on his leg, which isn't a good sign for an aging backstop. He will undergo testing as early as this evening, so look for the team to update his status before Sunday's finale versus the Guardians. A significant injury would put the cherry on top of a disappointing season where he's hit a paltry .203 with three homers and 21 RBI through 74 games played.

Fri Aug 12 202216:48Yasmani Grandal Homers In Three-Hit Game Thursday
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal had one of his best games of the season on Thursday, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. He slugged a home run and also had two singles. Grandal's been a huge disappointment this year, as he's batting .204 with nine runs and 21 RBI, and the home run was just his third of the season over 66 games. He's improved a bit since July, hitting .263 but still with only a .673 OPS. Grandal's nowhere close to one of the best fantasy catchers anymore, and managers should only roster him in two catcher leagues.

Tue Jul 5 202217:14Yasmani Grandal To Begin Rehab Assignment Wednesday
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) said he will start a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday with Double-A Birmingham and he hopes to return to the team after the All-Star break. Grandal will likely serve as the designated hitter through the weekend before moving to Triple-A Charlotte. The 33-year-old veteran catcher has been out for three weeks with back spasms, and the White Sox won't rush him back into action. Hopefully he can turn things around at the plate when he's back in the big leagues, as he was hitting only .185/.294/.237 with two home runs, 15 RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base in 173 at-bats before his injury. Reese McGuire and Seby Zavala will continue to share playing time behind the plate with Grandal sidelined.

Sun Jul 3 202216:27Yasmani Grandal Runs The Bases On Sunday
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) ran the bases on Sunday, according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. This marks a notable milestone in Grandal's recovery process. The 33-year-old was placed on the injured list with a lower back injury on June 13 and this is the first time he's done any running since then. However, he has been taking batting practice over the past week. Grandal's timetable is still unclear as of now and it seems likely he'll require a rehab stint prior to returning to the majors. He was struggling at the plate this year prior to the injury. Over 50 games on the season, he owns a .185/.294/.237 slash line to go along with two home runs, 15 RBI and six runs.

Tue Jun 28 202218:55Yasmani Grandal Taking Swings Off A Tee
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) has begun taking swings off a tee. According to Scott Merkin of MLB.com, Grandal's back pain has "subsided to some degree," but he still has hurdles to clear, most notably with his running. He has yet to begin running since landing on the injured list about two weeks back. Though one could also argue the 33-year-old has yet to begin running since the 2022 season began based on his 1st percentile sprint speed. Merkin reports that Grandal remains without a timetable for a rehab assignment, suggesting that fantasy managers can expect to be without his services for at least another few weeks.

Tue May 31 202216:33Yasmani Grandal Leading Off On Tuesday
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will serve as the team's leadoff hitter in Tuesday's game against right-hander Kevin Gausman and the Toronto Blue Jays. This will be his first leadoff opportunity of the year. He's primarily hit in the heart of the order this season. The team's primary leadoff hitter, Tim Anderson (groin), was placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Yoan Moncada (quadriceps) is out on Tuesday, but seems to be the best candidate for leadoff duties while Anderson is out. Grandal has struggled significantly at the plate this year, slashing .169/.279/.225 with two home runs, nine RBI and six runs over 41 games.

Tue May 24 202223:57Yasmani Grandal Sluggish Through First 38 Games
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal has had a poor start to the 2022 season, posting a .176/.273/.237 line across 38 games. In 131 at-bats, the two-time All-Star has just four extra-base hits (two doubles and two homers), five runs scored, and nine RBI. Advanced metrics suggest positive regression is on the horizon for the 33-year-old's batting average, with a .235 xBA. However, Grandal's .243 wOBA would be his lowest mark since 2017, hurting his value in OBP leagues. Given the position's lack of depth, fantasy managers should give Grandal a longer leash to see if he reverts to his steady self as June hits.

Fri Apr 22 202216:42Yasmani Grandal Getting A Breather On Friday
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Bailey Ober and the Minnesota Twins. Reese McGuire is getting the start behind the plate for the game. This will be Grandal's third day-off of the year. He played in 10 of the team's first 12 games. Over those 10 games, he slashed .111/.154/.194 with one home run, four RBI and one run scored. The 33-year-old got off to a slow start last year as well, but wound up racking up 23 home runs and a career-best OBP of .420. Expect the veteran catcher to start coming around at the plate soon.

Thu Apr 14 202211:31Yasmani Grandal Getting The Day Off Thursday
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal is taking the day off on Thursday. Grandal, who is just 3-for-15 with a home run and two RBI in his first four games of the season, will get his second day off of the year. Reese McGuire will handle the catching duties and hit seventh on Thursday against Seattle Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert. McGuire has two singles in his first seven plate appearances of the season in his first year with Chicago, but he won't have much DFS upside at the bottom of the White Sox order against a good up-and-coming pitcher in Gilbert.

Wed Apr 6 202212:23Yasmani Grandal Set To Build On Career-Best .940 OPS
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal enjoyed an enigmatic 2021 season in which he slashed .240/.420/.520 with 23 home runs, 60 runs, and 62 RBI in 375 plate appearances over 93 games. His counting stats could have been much gaudier if not for suffering a torn tendon in his knee early in July. Despite the setback, Grandal's OPS sat at a career-best .940, and he is once again poised to be among the top catching options, especially in points-based and sabermetrically-inclined leagues, where his walk rate catapults him up the rankings.

Fri Sep 24 202118:15Yasmani Grandal Isn't Starting On Friday
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cleveland Indians and right-handed starter Shane Bieber. Grandal is batting .236 with a .416 on-base percentage and 22 home runs in 342 plate appearances this season. It'll be Zack Collins hitting ninth and starting in Grandal's place behind the plate. The 26-year-old is batting .207 with a .326 on-base percentage, four home runs and a stolen base in 222 plate appearances this season. Given the matchup with Bieber, you're probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming help at catcher.

Thu Sep 16 202113:51Yasmani Grandal Isn't Starting On Thursday
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal isn't in Thursday's lineup against the Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Alex Cobb. Grandal has been one of fantasy baseball's most productive catchers when healthy this season, especially in leagues where on-base percentage is part of the scoring. The veteran is batting .237 with a .416 on-base percentage and 20 home runs in 311 plate appearances. Zack Collins will start in Grandal's place at catcher and bat eighth against the Angels. You're probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming help. Collins is batting .202 with a .324 on-base percentage, four home runs, and a stolen base in 211 plate appearances this season.

Sun Sep 5 202109:04Yasmani Grandal Stays Hot With Three More Hits
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal continues to swing a hot bat and went 3-for-3 with a walk and four RBI in Saturday's victory versus the Kansas City Royals. In the seven games that he's played in since his return, he is hitting .545 with five home runs and 15 RBI. He's coming alive at the right time for managers and should be rostered in all formats moving forward. In addition to his .227 batting average, he has hit 19 home runs and driven in 53 runs.

Wed Sep 1 202109:05Yasmani Grandal Stays Hot With Another Home Run
Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal continues to swing a hot bat for the Pale Hose. The veteran has been on fire since returning from the injured list Friday and went 1-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run. Grandal really struggled offensively in the first half with a .188 batting average, but he has nine hits in 14 at-bats since returning with four home runs and 11 RBI. Managers should be adding Grandal everywhere in leagues that he was dropped in during his lengthy stint on the injured list. For the season, he is now hitting .210 with 18 home runs and 49 RBI.
