Fri Mar 11 202215:16Tommy La Stella A Little Behind
San Francisco Giants infielder Tommy La Stella (Achilles) will be a little bit behind in spring camp as he recovers from Achilles surgery, according to president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi. Overall, La Stella's recovery is going well, and he should have a shot to be ready by Opening Day on April 7. However, with the Giants playing it safe, it also wouldn't be a big surprise if he opened the year on the injured list. The 33-year-old veteran infielder hit .250/.308/.405 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 242 plate appearances over 76 games for the Giants in his first season with the team last year. When healthy, he'll battle for at-bats at the keystone with Wilmer Flores. La Stella shouldn't be attractive in standard-sized mixed leagues in 2022.

San Francisco Giants second baseman Tommy La Stella (Achilles) is expected to be fully healthy by Opening Day. He underwent surgery on his left Achilles in October, and with the lockout ended, he will enter spring training 100 percent healthy. The 33-year-old slashed .250/.308/.405 with seven home runs, 28 RBI and 26 runs scored over 76 games in 2021. La Stella will complete with Wilmer Flores for the Giants starting second base job but is mainly an option in deep leagues and NL-only formats.

Donovan Solano entered the game to take over second base duties from him. According to Giants manager Gabe Kapler, La Stella has been dealing with Achilles tightness for a few weeks now. The 32-year-old started two of the first three games of the series, leading off in both of his starts. He has gone 2-for-5 with two walks and a run scored so far in the NLDS. If he's held out of the starting lineup for Game 4, Solano would likely fill in at second.

Sat Oct 9 202117:39Tommy La Stella Isn't In NLDS Game 2 Lineup
San Francisco Giants second baseman Tommy La Stella isn't starting on Saturday. The Giants will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers and left-handed starter Julio Urias in Game 2 of their National League Division Series but will do so with La Stella on the bench. The infielder hit .250 with a .308 on-base percentage and seven home runs in 242 plate appearances during the regular season. He also collected a pair of hits and a walk in Friday's series-opening win. Instead, it'll be Donovan Solano batting eighth and getting the start at second base. Solano hit .301 with a .344 on-base percentage and five home runs in 123 plate appearances against left-handed pitching during the regular season.

Wed Sep 29 202107:46Tommy La Stella Exits With Achilles Discomfort On Tuesday
San Francisco Giants second baseman Tommy La Stella (Achilles) was removed in the sixth inning of Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. After the game, Giants manager Gabe Kapler told reporters that La Stella was experiencing Achilles discomfort. He said that La Stella was feeling limited both on the base paths and on defense. His removal in the game came when he was on third base. Donovan Solano came in to run for him. Any mention of an Achilles for an athlete is a scary thing. He will be reevaluated on Wednesday, at which point we'll know more about the severity of the injury. Solano would serve as the team's primary second baseman if La Stella is forced to miss time.

Wed Sep 22 202110:20Tommy La Stella Hits Leadoff Homer Tuesday
San Francisco Giants second/third baseman Tommy La Stella got things going in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Padres, going 1-for-5 with a leadoff home run and a strikeout. La Stella lined a 2-2 Joe Musgrove breaking pitch just over the right-field wall to give the Giants an early lead. The veteran has slashed .241/.299/.401 with six HR and 23 RBI this season, and while he does hit in one of baseball's best lineups, he hasn't been able to produce enough to be a viable fantasy option.

San Francisco Giants second/third baseman Tommy La Stella went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a strikeout in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Mets. La Stella got things going for the Giants, crushing a first-inning Marcus Stroman offering into the Mets' bullpen for his second HR of the season. The 32-year-old is now slashing .250/.310/.375 with 11 RBI over 114 plate appearances. His lack of power limits his fantasy value at this time.

San Francisco Giants second/third baseman Tommy La Stella had a big day at the plate in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Rockies. La Stella went 3-for-4 with two singles, a double, and two RBI. The 32-year-old has not managed to be a solid fantasy contributor this season, slashing .255/.318/.357 with one home run and eight RBI while battling injuries. He may end up being a contributor to the Giants as they approach the playoffs, but he has little fantasy value at this time.

Thu Aug 5 202102:00Tommy La Stella Reaches Four Times In Return
San Francisco Giants infielder Tommy La Stella came off the injured list Wednesday and got the start at third base batting second. He went 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored before being lifted for a pinch-runner. La Stella showed no signs of rust despite the fact that this was his first game since May 2. With a crowded roster, he may not see a great deal of playing time, but manager Gabe Kapler has done quite well utilizing the depth on his team. La Stella isn't an immediate add for fantasy purposes, but he's worth keeping a keen eye on, especially if the injured Evan Longoria and Brandon Belt are slowed in their returns.

Wed Aug 4 202120:07Tommy La Stella Returns For Giants
San Francisco Giants infielder Tommy La Stella (hamstring) returned from his rehab assignment and was reinstated from the 60-day injured list, according to MLB.com. In other moves, left-handed pitcher Conner Menez was designated for assignment, while starter Anthony DeSclafani was placed on the 10-day injured list. La Stella has been out of action since early May due to a hamstring strain, and then suffered a setback during his rehab assignment due to a thumb issue. He's slashing .235/.297/.353 with one homer, five RBI and eight runs scored over 25 games this season, and it's unlikely he'll have any value in fantasy this year outside of the deepest of NL-only formats.

Wed Jul 14 202120:20On deck for MLB's 2nd half: Trades, playoff races and prizes
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Across the globe, everybody is watching Shohei Ohtani in awe and intrigue. Major League Baseball can only love the attention from around the world surrounding the Angels' two-way star and the spotlight he's brought to the sport. Can Ohtani keep this up? An encore to a sensational first half? He leads the majors with 33 home runs and has shown no signs of slowing down or slumping — and should soon have a healthy Mike Trout back in the lineup with him. Pitchers across the big leagues are doing their part so far, too. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season, matching the mark for most in one year during the modern era. The record of eight was set in 1884, the first season overhand pitching was allowed. Will Jacob deGrom, Walker Buehler and Gerrit Cole join the list soon? And will the uproar over sticky substances tamp down? Manager Torey Lovullo and the Arizona Diamondbacks are eager for a fresh start, determined to forget that record 24-game... [More]
