Fri Sep 2 202221:44Tyler Glasnow To Begin Rehab Assignment Wednesday
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow (elbow) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Wednesday. Glasnow hasn't pitched in an MLB game since the 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but he is trending towards possibly making a return to the field by the end of the current season. His first rehab outing will be brief as the Rays only plan to let him go one inning in what will be a slow buildup.

Mon Aug 29 202211:30Tyler Glasnow Throws Another Live BP Session
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow (elbow) threw another live batting practice session with Triple-A Durham on Sunday and is expected to throw another live BP session on Wednesday before embarking on a minor league rehab assignment. Glasnow signed a two-year, $30 million contract extension with the Rays over the weekend as well. The 29-year-old threw around 23 pitches on Sunday. He had Tommy John surgery on Aug. 4 of last year and is expected to make his 2022 debut for Tampa at some point in September. However, fantasy managers in single-year leagues shouldn't be paying much attention, as Glasnow is expected to be eased into a bullpen role down the stretch.

Fri Aug 26 202216:00Rays Sign Tyler Glasnow To A Contract Extension
The Tampa Bay Rays signed starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow to a contract extension on Friday that will take him through the 2024 season, according to a source. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Before the extension, Glasnow was scheduled to become a free agent after the 2023 campaign. The 29-year-old hasn't pitched at all this year while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but a minor league rehab assignment is within sight and he could make it back to the Rays to close out the season. Glasnow has fantasy ace potential when healthy, but if he does return down the stretch, it'll likely be in a relief role, leaving him with very little fantasy appeal. In 14 starts last year before his injury, Glasnow went 5-2 with a 2.66 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP and a 123:27 K:BB in just 88 innings.

Tue Aug 23 202211:05Tyler Glasnow To Throw Live BP Tuesday
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow (elbow) threw 20 pitches in a live batting practice session last Saturday in Florida, and he will throw more live BP on Tuesday. Glasnow is also scheduled to throw another live session later this week before he goes on a minor league rehab assignment. The 29-year-old had Tommy John surgery last year and is slowly recovering, perhaps in time to make a return before the end of the 2022 season. The Rays aren't going to rush Glasnow, though, and there's a good chance they'll just use him in a relief role out of the bullpen if he returns in September. Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting Glasnow to push them over the top for a championship in the final month of the season.

Sun Aug 21 202220:30Tyler Glasnow Throws Live Batting Practice Session
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow (elbow) threw a live batting practice session on Sunday. The right-hander threw 20 pitches at the team's spring training complex. Manager Kevin Cash mentioned that the session went well, so hopefully Glasnow is able to return before the end of the season. There's a chance that Glasnow is able to get back on the mound and make a start or two in September. That being said, it's tough to imagine him having fantasy value this season.

Tue Aug 16 202211:10Tyler Glasnow To Throw A Bullpen Tuesday
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow (ankle, elbow) will throw what will likely be his final bullpen session on Tuesday before he begins facing live hitters on Aug. 20. Glasnow is working his way back from Tommy John surgery in August of last year, and he also had arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies from his right ankle on March 18. "The chance is not zero. Let's say that much," pitching coach Kyle Snyder said when asked if Glasnow might pitch this season. The 28-year-old has been throwing bullpen sessions for more than a month, so he's ready to take the next step. Glasnow still has plenty of hurdles to clear, though, before the Rays feel comfortable activating him from the 60-day injured list. If Glasnow does return in 2022, he's unlikely to have enough time to make much of a fantasy impact.

Mon Aug 8 202215:33Tyler Glasnow To Face Hitters Aug. 20
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow (ankle, elbow), who is working his way back from Tommy John surgery in August of last year, had arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies from his right ankle on March 18. He's been throwing bullpen sessions of 25 to 30 pitches and felt good after throwing a bullpen on Saturday. The 28-year-old is scheduled to begin facing live hitters on Aug. 20, which means it's possible he'll pitch later this season. Still, even if Glasnow makes a return in September, the Rays will absolutely be extremely cautious with their ace, meaning that he's unlikely to have much fantasy appeal to close out the 2022 season. But this is all great news for his 2023 projections.

Sat Aug 6 202219:26Tyler Glasnow Could Pitch In 2022
Tampa Bay Rays star pitcher Tyler Glasnow's chances of pitching this season are "not zero," pitching coach Kyle Snyder told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Glasnow underwent Tommy John surgery in 2021 and has come along nicely in his recovery, touching 99 mph on the radar gun. The now-28-year-old went 5-2 with a 2.70 xFIP, 45.3 GB%, 12.58 K/9, and 2.76 BB/9 last season. He should be rostered in all dynasty leagues, and managers in redraft leagues with an open IL spot should consider stashing him.

Tue Jun 28 202215:40Tyler Glasnow Gets Back On A Mound
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow (elbow) threw off a bullpen mound on Tuesday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John elbow reconstruction in August of last year. Glasnow still has a long ways to go in his recovery and probably won't be of much use in fantasy if he even returns at the tail end of the 2022 season, but this is a big step for the 28-year-old right-hander. The better bet is that we don't see him again until 2023 as a potential fantasy ace. Before his injury last year, Glasnow was 5-2 with a 2.66 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP while striking out 123 and walking 27 in 88 innings over his 14 starts.

Fri Apr 29 202214:41Tyler Glasnow Playing Catch
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow (ankle, elbow) has been playing catch with right-hander Yonny Chirinos at 90 feet, who is also rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, according to manager Kevin Cash. Glasnow had Tommy John surgery in August of last year and also had arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies from his right ankle on March 18. Despite having another surgery, the right-hander said the ankle operation likely won't affect his recovery timetable. Fantasy managers must remain patient with the 28-year-old, as it will be another couple of months before Glasnow is able to return to the Rays starting rotation.

Sun Mar 20 202222:13Tyler Glasnow Underwent Ankle Surgery
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow (ankle, elbow) underwent arthroscopic surgery on Friday to remove loose bodies from his right ankle. The procedure was performed by Dr. Aaron Mate in Tampa. Glasnow is expected to return to throwing in two to three weeks. The 28-year-old is also recovering from Tommy John surgery last August, so his throwing program will be pushed back slightly. He has the potential to be one of the top starting pitchers in baseball when healthy and has fanned 11.3 hitters per nine innings over 403 career innings covering six major league seasons. But with Glasnow not being ready until sometime in the second half of 2022, he may not be of much use in redraft leagues this year.

Wed Aug 4 202122:02Tyler Glasnow undergoes successful Tommy John surgery
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Wednesday. The 27-year-old underwent surgery to repair a torn UCL and is expected to be out until 2023. He was terrific before the injury, owning a 2.66 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and a 123:27 K: BB across 88 innings in 2021. Glasnow is an injury stash in dynasty leagues, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect the Rays ace to return until 2023.

Sat Jul 31 202112:52Tyler Glasnow Will Undergo Tommy John Surgery
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow (elbow) is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery next week. There's a slight chance Glasnow could rehab his torn UCL, but the expectation is that he will require surgery. The 27-year-old will look to return sometime during the 2022 season, but it's possible he might not pitch again till 2023. Glasnow was excellent before his injury, owning a (5-2) record along with a 2.66 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and a 123:27 K:BB across 88 innings in 2021. Fantasy managers in redraft formats can move on from Glasnow, but the Rays' ace remains a strong stash in dynasty leagues.

Sat Jul 31 202109:55Tyler Glasnow Throws Off A Mound Friday
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow (elbow) threw off a mound on Friday while in Texas during an already scheduled visit with the doctors regarding his elbow. The 27-year-old has been sidelined since mid-June with a flexor strain and a partial tear of his UCL. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Across the globe, everybody is watching Shohei Ohtani in awe and intrigue. Major League Baseball can only love the attention from around the world surrounding the Angels' two-way star and the spotlight he's brought to the sport. Can Ohtani keep this up? Pitchers across the big leagues are doing their part so far, too. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season, matching the mark for most in one year during the modern era. The record of eight was set in 1884, the first season overhand pitching was allowed. Will Jacob deGrom, Walker Buehler and Gerrit Cole join the list soon? Mon Jun 28 202103:20After trading Lindor, Indians still in hunt despite injuries
Ever since Terry Francona took over as manager, the Cleveland Indians have been playoff contenders. This year has been no different, so far — even after the Indians traded their star shortstop. Cleveland sent Francisco Lindor to the New York Mets during the offseason, yet as of Monday morning, the Indians (41-33) have actually been a half-game better than the Mets (40-33) on the year. Cleveland isn't in first place like Lindor's new team, but the Indians are just 2 1/2 games behind the AL Central-leading White Sox. Shane Bieber leads the American League in strikeouts, showing that last season's Cy Young Award wasn't some two-month fluke. Aaron Civale leads the league with 10 wins, and José Ramirez has 16 home runs. The question now is whether the Indians can stay close to the White Sox despite mounting injuries. Bieber, Civale and right-hander Zach Plesac are on the injured list, and in Sunday's game, outfielder Josh Naylor was taken off on a stretcher after a collision with second baseman... [More]
