Tue Sep 21 202110:59Jaime Barria Solid In BlowoutJaime BarríaSPAngelsFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jaime Barria (2-4) pitched well for 5 1/3 innings on Monday night in the 10-0 loss to the Houston Astros. He worked around 10 hits, giving up two runs and no walks while striking out five. In the end, he was the losing pitcher after the bullpen surrendered eight runs. Barria hasn't been good over 12 appearances this season, posting a 4.77 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and a poor 14.4 strikeout percentage while going at least five innings in just five of his 10 starts. He offers no value and should be left on the waiver wire in every format.

Tue Sep 21 202110:57Adam Duvall Mashes Two-Run HomerAdam DuvallCF/LF/RFMarlinsFree Agent
Atlanta Braves outfielder Adam Duvall continued showing off his impressive power ability on Monday versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. He went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run that helped pad on to what was already becoming a blowout win for the Braves. Duvall has 37 home runs and 107 RBI while posting a .287 OBP, so that should tell you all you need to know as a fantasy manager.

Tue Sep 21 202110:52Huascar Ynoa Shaky Versus DiamondbacksHuascar YnoaSPBravesFree Agent
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Huascar Ynoa has normally been a reliable option, but he struggled during Monday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He went four innings and allowed five hits, three earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts in the 11-4 win. He ended up with a no-decision in what was expected to be a favorable outing for Ynoa. Nonetheless, he'll take a 3.43 ERA into his next start versus the San Diego Padres. He'll be an avoidable streaming option for that matchup.

Tue Sep 21 202110:51Starling Marte Collects RBI In Loss To MarinersStarling MarteCFAthleticsFree Agent
Oakland Athletics outfielder Starling Marte went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in a loss to the Mariners on Monday. Marte got off to a torrid start to his A's career after the trade deadline, but he's cooled off considerably since that hot start. Since the start of September, Marte has just a .758 OPS, more than 100 points lower than the sturdy .882 OPS he posted in August. He's also been held in check on the basepaths as Marte has just three steals in September and has been caught twice; in August he was 19-for-19 on stolen base attempts. Marte is still a must-start outfielder in fantasy with three more games versus Seattle on tap.

Tue Sep 21 202110:40Sean Manaea Roughed Up By Mariners On MondaySean ManaeaSPAthleticsFree Agent
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Sean Manaea allowed four runs on eight hits to suffer his 10th loss of the season Monday versus the Mariners. The left-hander walked one and picked up just three strikeouts in his latest disappointing start. Manaea has now allowed nine runs in his last 10 innings and has a 6.95 ERA going back to the start of August. He did have back-to-back seven inning starts with nine strikeouts back on September 3 and 9, but other than those starts, Manaea has not pitched past the fifth inning in any start since July and has allowed at least four runs in four starts in that span. Manaea is not a recommended starter in his next start versus a deadly Astros lineup.

Tue Sep 21 202110:21Matt Vierling Holding Down First Base For PhilliesMatt VierlingLFPhilliesFree Agent
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Matt Vierling went 1-for-3 on Monday night to raise his batting average to .341 through his first 48 plate appearances this season. Vierling now has five hits in his last four starts as he's done a nice job at first base in the absence of Rhys Hoskins (abdomen) who is out for the season. The 25-year-old rookie is yet to homer in the Big Leagues and he slugged just .359 in Triple-A this season, so he shouldn't be expected to put up big power numbers. He does, however, have two stolen bases and has been in the lineup most days for a Philly club that is still fighting for a postseason birth. The majority of fantasy players can leave Vierling on waivers, however, he's a name to know in deep leagues down the stretch.

Tue Sep 21 202110:03Ranger Suarez Fires Six Solid Innings Despite LossRanger SuárezRPPhilliesFree Agent
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Ranger Suarez was the tough-luck loser on Monday night despite tossing six strong innings versus the Orioles. Suarez had a rough first inning as he allowed three straight singles to let in two runs. That was all Baltimore could muster versus Suarez who settled in nicely after that rocky inning. On the night, Suarez needed 102 pitches to complete six innings, picking up five strikeouts along the way, but it wasn't enough to avoid a loss as the Phillies were shut down by John Means and two Baltimore relievers. Suarez will carry a pristine 1.60 ERA and 1.06 WHIP into another soft matchup with the Pirates. He's a must-start fantasy asset in all leagues.

Tue Sep 21 202109:08Scott Barlow Allows Solo Homer But Converts SaveScott BarlowRPRoyalsFree Agent
Kansas City Royals relief pitcher Scott Barlow was called upon to close out Game 2 of the team's doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians on Monday. He entered in the seventh inning while the team was ahead 4-1. He went on to give up a solo home run to Bobby Bradley, but that was the only damage that was done. Barlow recorded two strikeouts in the inning and went on to earn his 14th save of the year. The 28-year-old has now converted six consecutive save opportunities and appears to be the clear closer for the team. He should be rostered in all leagues where saves are scarce for the final weeks of the year.

Tue Sep 21 202109:02Hunter Dozier Launches His 14th Home RunHunter Dozier1B/3B/RFRoyalsFree Agent
Kansas City Royals third baseman/outfielder Hunter Dozier went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Game 1 of the team's doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians on Monday. The 30-year-old veteran is quietly putting together a solid month of September. Over 19 games this month, he's slashing .291/.379/.600 with four home runs, five doubles, 11 RBI and eight runs. It's been a nightmare season so far for Dozier, who was slashing just .203/.271/.352 before the calendar flipped to September. He could be a worthy and sneaky add in deep leagues and AL-only leagues for managers who can utilize either his third base, first base or outfield eligibility for the final weeks of the year.

Tue Sep 21 202108:54Adalberto Mondesi Swipes Two Bags On MondayAdalberto Mondesi3B/SSRoyalsFree Agent
Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi has been doing his best to make up for lost time in September. In Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians, he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and a run scored. He has now stolen 12 bases over 15 games this month. He is slashing just .204/.246/.333 across the month, but the stolen bases alone have made him an exceptional asset in all rotisserie and head-to-head categories leagues this month. The 26-year-old played in just 10 games this year before he was activated from the injured list on September 1. His strong finish will likely help make him one of the most divisive players in fantasy drafts come next spring.

Tue Sep 21 202108:46Alex Lange Records His First Save On MondayAlex LangeRP/SPTigersFree Agent
Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Alex Lange pitched a perfect ninth inning in the team's 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox. He allowed no hits or walks in a scoreless inning and earned his first save of the year. The 25-year-old right-hander has pitched well out of the bullpen this month. He's made nine appearances and has only surrendered a run on one occasion. He has a 1.86 ERA and 10 strikeouts over 9.2 innings in September. The Tigers have won three straight games and three different relievers have earned saves in those three games with Michael Fulmer and Kyle Funkhouser earning saves on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Tigers may be going with a committee approach the rest of the way now that Gregory Soto (finger) is out for the season. Fulmer has 10 saves on the year and is the most likely option for saves, but we could get more clarity on the situation next time a save opportunity pops up.

Tue Sep 21 202108:40Matt Manning Allows Three Runs Over Five InningsMatt ManningSPTigersFree Agent
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matt Manning had a middling outing against the Chicago White Sox on Monday. He pitched five innings and allowed four hits, three walks and three earned runs while striking out two. He was left with a no decision in the game. The rookie right-hander had one of the best starts of his young career in his previous outing before this one. He held the Milwaukee Brewers to one run over six innings last Wednesday. Manning has had some solid starts over the past few months, but he's also had some awful games, like when he allowed eight earned runs against the Oakland Athletics in his first start of September. Manning will take a 5.73 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP into his next start against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

Tue Sep 21 202108:27Willy Adames Goes 0-For-4 In His ReturnWilly AdamesSSBrewersFree Agent
The Milwaukee Brewers activated shortstop Willy Adames (quad) from the 10-day injured list on Monday. He went on to start Monday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals and he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Adames was out for a little more than two weeks due to a quad injury. The 26-year-old has been fantastic at the plate since joining the Brewers in mid-May. Over 89 games with the Brewers, he's slashing .291/.371/.523 with 17 home runs, 51 RBI and 52 runs. He's a great waiver wire target if he was dropped in your league during his injury.

Tue Sep 21 202108:13Chris Ellis Has His Next Start Pushed BackChris EllisRPOriolesFree Agent
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Chris Ellis (arm) is dealing with arm fatigue and he will not be making his scheduled start against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. The team will go with a bullpen game on Tuesday instead. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told the media that Ellis is being pushed back "a couple of days." The 28-year-old right-hander has pitched well since being claimed off waivers in late August. Over five starts, he's posted a 2.82 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. However, he hasn't pitched past the fifth inning in any of his starts with the Orioles yet and he's averaging just 5.6 K/9.

Tue Sep 21 202108:02Miguel Cabrera Dealing With Back TightnessMiguel Cabrera1B/DHTigersFree Agent
Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera (back) was removed from Monday's game against the Chicago White Sox after experiencing back tightness. He went 0-for-2 with an RBI in the game before being replaced by Harold Castro. After the game, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters that Cabrera's removal was precautionary and that he didn't believe the back injury was anything serious. The 38-year-old veteran has slashed .257/.318/.391 with 15 home runs, 71 RBI and 47 runs over 122 games this year. He should be considered day-to-day with a good chance of sitting out on Tuesday.

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Dietrich Enns struck out the only batter he faced to earn the save during Monday's 6-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. With the bases loaded, he entered the game in the ninth inning to preserve a 6-4 lead. The 30-year-old fanned Breyvic Valera to secure the Rays victory on Monday. Rays' incumbent closer Andrew Kittredge (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, Enns was brought in for Monday's save opportunity. Enns owns a 3.10 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 23:6 K: BB over 20 1/3 innings in 2021. The Rays right-hander continues to have a versatile role in the bullpen and should be rostered in all leagues for the fantasy baseball playoffs.

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Garrett Whitlock (pectoral) suffered a right pectoral injury during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, the injury isn't expected to be serious. Cotillo reported that the injury is believed to be a minor strain and the team has yet to determine whether a stint on the injured list will be required. This is encouraging news for Whitlock and the Red Sox. The 25-year-old right-hander has been one of the team's top relievers this year, notching 14 holds while pitching to a 1.99 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP.

Tue Sep 21 202107:48Justin Upton Likely Done For The SeasonJustin UptonLFAngelsFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Justin Upton (back) is unlikely to return before the end of the season, according to Angels manager Joe Maddon. The 34-year-old veteran has been out since September 1 due to a right lumbar strain. Maddon told reporters that Upton's back has been bothering him for most of the second half of the year. Maddon has certainly been the bearer of bad news lately. Last week, he told reporters that he didn't expect to see Mike Trout (calf) or Jo Adell (abdomen) back this year. Upton had an uneven 2021 season. Over 89 games, he slashed .211/.296/.409 with 17 home runs, 41 RBI and 47 runs.

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Joey Wendle went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Monday's 6-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. He blasted a solo shot off Blue Jays reliever Ryan Borucki in the eighth inning to increase the Rays' lead 6-4. It was his 11th long ball of the season. The 31-year-old continues to see everyday at-bats while Wander Franco (hamstring) is sidelined. Franco could return from the 10-day injured list on Friday, sending Wendle back into a utility role. Wendle is slashing .271/.324/.434 with 11 home runs, 52 RBI, 69 runs scored, and seven stolen bases over 127 games in 2021. Fantasy managers can use Wendle as a streamer until Franco is activated from the injured list.

Tue Sep 21 202107:40Carlos Rodon Experiences Arm Soreness On MondayCarlos RodónSPWhite SoxFree Agent
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (arm) experienced arm soreness in his pitching arm during Monday's start against the Detroit Tigers. He was removed from the game after the third inning when he first started feeling sore. White Sox manager Tony La Russa told reporters that he was concerned after the game and said that Rodon would be examined further on Tuesday. Rodon allowed two hits, two walks and three runs (two earned) while striking out six in Monday's start. His velocity was down during the start with his last fastball clocking in at 89 mph, down from his season-long average of 95.5 mph. It sounds like the southpaw could be headed for a trip to the injured list, but we should have more clarity after he undergoes further testing on Tuesday.
