The Boston Red Sox have at least checked in with free-agent shortstop Trevor Story. There are at least three serious players for Story, plus others and one mystery team. MLB Network's Jon Heyman also mentioned the Houston Astros as a team to have expressed interest in Story this offseason. Boston recently reached out to Carlos Correa's representatives before the lockout, but it remains to be seen if All-Star Xander Bogaerts would be moved out of the position. It's unclear if Story is willing to move to another position besides shortstop, but the Seattle Mariners have reportedly been interested in adding Story to play third base. Leaving Coors Field will be a downgrade for Story, but landing in Boston wouldn't be a bad place for the power/speed threat at shortstop.

The Chicago Cubs re-signed outfielder Michael Hermosillo to a one-year, $600,000 major league deal on Wednesday night before MLB entered a lockout on Thursday. The 26-year-old was non-tendered on Wednesday before the Cubs decided to re-sign him to a new deal. Hermosillo dealt with several injuries that slowed him down last season, but he managed three home runs in 38 plate appearances while also slashing .194/.237/.500. Both he and recently added outfielder Harold Ramirez are options to cover all three outfield spots in Chicago. And for a rebuilding Cubs team, there's a chance that both Hermosillo and Ramirez play their way into starting spots in 2022. Hermosillo has a .190/.276/.343 slash line with four home runs and 13 RBI in 72 career games at the big-league level with the Cubs and Los Angeles Angels.

The Philadelphia Phillies signed infielder Johan Camargo to a one-year, $1.4 million deal on Wednesday night before MLB entered a lockout on Thursday. The deal includes $100,000 in incentives. Camargo became a free agent when the Atlanta Braves didn't tender him a contract for 2022. Right-hander Adonis Medina was designated for assignment to clear a 40-man roster space for Camargo. The 27-year-old switch-hitter will be a solid bench option for the Phillies after he hit .326/.401/.557 in 104 games at Triple-A in 2021. In just 15 games for Atlanta last season, Camargo didn't have a single hit while walking twice and striking out six times in 18 plate appearances. In five big-leagues seasons for the Braves, Camargo has a .257/.315/.423 slash line with 34 home runs, 144 RBI and 141 runs scored in 364 games.

The Boston Red Sox traded outfielder Hunter Renfroe to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr., minor-league infielders David Hamilton and Alex Binelas. Bradley Jr. returns to Boston, where he spent the first eight years of his MLB career (2013-2020). The 31-year-old is a phenomenal defender and is expected to be Boston's everyday centerfielder, but struggles to make contact and slashed .163/.236/.261 with six home runs, 29 RBI, 39 runs scored, and seven stolen bases with a 30.8 percent strikeout rate in 134 games for the Brewers. Binelas slashed .314/.379/.636 with nine home runs in Low-A Carolina and is a few years away from making his MLB debut. Hamilton was an eighth-round pick by the Brewers in 2019, slashing .242/.318/.409 with three home runs, 12 RBI, and 11 stolen bases in Double-A last season. The 24-year-old will most likely make his MLB debut sometime in 2023.

The Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Jordan Lyles agreed to a one-year deal worth $7 million on Wednesday night, pending a physical. However, the deal is unlikely to become official until the new Collective Bargaining Agreement is completed. Lyles' deal could be worth $17 million if his 2023 option is picked up. The 31-year-old had a 5.15 ERA in a career-high 180 innings over 30 starts for the Texas Rangers in 2021. Lyles led all of baseball with 38 home runs allowed, and that could again be a problem in 2022 at hitter-friendly Camden Yards and in the tough American League East division. On a bright not, Lyles had a 2.87 ERA and 0.99 WHIP after Sept. 1 when he started using his sinker and curveball more to attack hitters. Lyles has a career 5.21 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with seven different teams.

The Boston Red Sox traded outfielder Hunter Renfroe to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr., minor-league infielders David Hamilton and Alex Binelas. Renfroe slashed .259/.315/.501 with 31 home runs and 96 RBI with a .816 OPS in 144 games for the Red Sox in 2021. The 29-year-old is expected to be the Brewers starting right fielder to replace Avisail Garcia, who signed with the Miami Marlins during the offseason. He will hit in the heart of the Brewers' order, and Renfroe's power should suit well at American Family Field. The former San Diego Padre could be in line for another 30-plus homers in one of the friendliest hitters parks in baseball, making him a solid fantasy option in upcoming 2022 drafts.

Free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa has received plenty of interest and many offers on the open market as the top free agent available, but he is comfortable waiting through the coming lockout for the right offer. The usual big-spending teams have not spent big yet, and if the tax threshold rises with a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, it could benefit Correa if he waits it out. Correa has reportedly heard from the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves and was offered a five-year deal worth $160 million by the Houston Astros last month, according to FOX 26's Mark Berman. The Cubs appear to be trying to compete after signing starting pitcher Marcus Stroman on Wednesday night. And the Braves could be looking for another big bat if they aren't able to re-sign star first baseman Freddie Freeman.

The New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres are among many teams that are interested in signing star free-agent Kris Bryant. The Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies, Colorado Rockies and Houston Astros, among others, have also checked in. Bryant's biggest draw is his versatility, with his ability to play third base, first base and all three outfield positions. The Angels have mostly been focusing on pitching, but the thought of Bryant joining a lineup with Mike Trout and American League MVP Shohei Ohtani is very intriguing. The Astros could be looking to replace Carlos Correa in free agency. The Padres already have star third baseman Manny Machado, but Bryant could be used in their outfield. The 29-year-old Bryant made 47 starts at third base, 35 in left field, 33 in right field, 13 in center and 10 at first base in 2021.

The Kansas City Royals have signed relief pitcher Taylor Clarke, according to a tweet from MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Per Heyman, it's a one-year deal for Clarke worth $975,000. The 28-year-old pitched to a 4.98 ERA and a 3.54 FIP in 43.1 innings last season for Arizona. He'll join a Royals bullpen that also features Josh Staumont, Scott Barlow, Domingo Tapia, and Jake Brentz among others. With Staumont and Barlow around, Clarke probably won't initially be in the mix for saves in Kansas City.

The San Diego Padres have signed relief pitcher Luis Garcia, according to a tweet from MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Per Heyman, the reliever will earn $7 million in two seasons, $500,000 of which is a signing bonus. The 34-year-old pitched to a 3.24 ERA and a 2.72 FIP in 33.1 innings for the St. Louis Cardinals last season, registering two saves, 34 strikeouts, and eight walks. He'll join a San Diego bullpen that also features Emilio Pagan, Pierce Johnson, Tim Hill, and Craig Stammen in high-leverage roles.

According to a tweet from The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly re-signed infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor to a four-year deal. Per Rosenthal, the contract is worth $60 million and includes an option for a fifth year, that if exercised, would take the contract's total value to $73 million. The 31-year-old hit .254 with a .344 on-base percentage, 20 home runs and 13 stolen bases in 582 plate appearances for the Dodgers last season. With shortstop Corey Seager now in Texas, Taylor could, in theory, see more starts at both middle infield spots alongside Trea Turner.

According to a tweet from FanSided's Robert Murray, the Boston Red Sox have reportedly agreed to terms with free-agent starting pitcher Rich Hill. Hill pitched to a 3.86 ERA and a 4.34 FIP in 158 2/3 innings last season, registering 150 strikeouts while surrendering 55 walks. He'll give the Red Sox another rotation option to slot in after left-hander Chris Sale and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed relief pitcher Mark Melancon, according to a tweet from MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Per Heyman, it's a two-year deal that includes a third-year option with a $2 million buyout. Including the buyout, the contract is for $14 million with an additional $2 million potentially in incentives. The veteran reliever pitched for the division-rival San Diego Padres in 2021, notching 39 saves in 64 appearances. Melancon also pitched to a 2.23 ERA and a 3.36 FIP in 64 2/3 innings while registering 59 strikeouts and 25 walks. He seems like a decent bet to close games for the Diamondbacks with Joe Mantiply, Noe Ramirezand J.B. Wendelken on hand as setup options.

According to a tweet from ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Chicago Cubs have reportedly signed free-agent starting pitcher Marcus Stroman. Per Passan, it'll be a three-year contract for Stroman worth $71 million that also includes an opt-out after the second season. The 30-year-old pitched to a 3.02 ERA and a 3.49 FIP in 179 innings for the New York Mets this past season, striking out 158 batters while allowing just 44 walks. He'll step in as the ace of a rotation that should also feature Kyle Hendricks, Wade Miley, Alec Mills, and Adbert Alzolay, among others.

The Minnesota Twins have signed free agent starting pitcher Dylan Bundy, according to a tweet from MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Per Heyman, it's a one-year deal worth $4 million that also comes with an $11 million for the 2023 season. Also, according to Heyman, that option has a $1 million buyout. The right-hander spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. This past year he pitched to a 6.06 ERA and a 5.51 FIP in 90.2 innings while registering 84 strikeouts and surrendering 34 walks. He'll join a Twins rotation that could also include Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober, and Randy Dobnak.

The Philadelphia Phillies and free-agent reliever Corey Knebel agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal on Wednesday. The 30-year-old is one of the hardest throwers in baseball, but he's had trouble staying healthy in his career. Knebel missed more than three months in 2021 with a right lat strain but had a 2.45 ERA and 2.90 FIP in 27 appearances for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He relies on a high-90s four-seam fastball and a curveball that helped him strike out 30 hitters in 25 2/3 innings for LA. Knebel was an All-Star in 2017 with the Milwaukee Brewers when he led the National League with 76 appearances and had a 1.78 ERA and 39 saves. With Phillies bullpen in flux, the right-hander will have a shot to win the closing gig in 2022 if the team doesn't end up going with a committee approach.

Free agent starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi has attracted the attention of the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets, among other teams. One of the last prominent left-handed starters on the market along with Clayton Kershaw and Carlos Rodon, Kikuchi pitched well enough with the Mariners in 2021 to earn a spot on the American League All-Star team, but a disappointing stretch to finish the year left him with a 4.41 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 29 starts. He made the surprising choice to opt out of a contract that would have paid him $13 million dollars in 2022. Wherever he ends up, Kikuchi will be a high-upside option late in 2022 fantasy drafts.

Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Andres Munoz has agreed to a four-year contract extension that will guarantee him at least $7.5 million dollars. The deal also includes three club options. The initial four-year duration covers his final year before arbitration and all three arbitration years. The flame-throwing Munoz was acquired via trade from the San Diego Padres along with Ty France and others in 2020, and he has made just one appearance as a Mariner, recording two outs in the final game of the 2021 season. Munoz has long been considered a potential future dominant closer, with a fastball that averaged in the triple digits before his most recent injury. For now, with just 23 2/3 big-league innings to his name, he'll operate as a setup man in front of Paul Sewald.

The Kansas City Royals have non-tendered pitcher Richard Lovelady, but he is expected to rejoin the team with a minor-league deal. The left-handed Lovelady appears unlikely to pitch in 2022 after having his 2021 seasoned cut short by Tommy John surgery. Before sustaining the injury, he was performing quite well, putting up a 3.48 ERA in 20 2/3 innings in relief. This move saves the Royals a 40-man roster spot while Lovelady recovers, and if all goes well he is expected to once again be a bullpen option in 2023.

Utilityman Phil Gosselin is set for free agency, as the Los Angeles Angels have opted not to tender him a contract. They did tender their three other eligible players, catcher Max Stassi, pitcher Mike Mayers, and utilityman Tyler Wade. It is the acquisitions of Wade and Andrew Velazquez, both from the Yankees, which likely made Gosselin expendable. The 33-year-old recorded a .676 OPS in 345 at-bats in 2021, appearing at first base, third base, and in the corner outfield. He should catch on with another team after the expected lockout but will remain off the fantasy radar.
