Sun Mar 26 202312:30J.P. Crawford Expected To Be Ready For Opening Day
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (foot) is expected to be ready for Opening Day on Thursday after fouling a ball off his right foot while hitting in the cages on Friday. X-rays and a CT scan on his bruised right foot came back negative for fractures. If Crawford's injury had been serious, the M's would have had to turn to Mason McCoy after Dylan Moore suffered an oblique strain a week ago. McCoy could make the team in Moore's place, as he's a plus defender at the 6 and can also play second and third base. The 28-year-old Crawford is more attractive for his glove than his bat, and he won't offer fantasy managers much power or speed in deeper leagues. His best assets offensively are his ability to make contact and get on base regularly.

Sat Mar 25 202317:54J.P. Crawford To Undergo Further Testing
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (foot) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday. This comes after Crawford was scratched ahead of Friday's game due to foot soreness. It sounds like a minor issue, but the team wants to do additional testing to make sure it's not anything serious. The expectation is that Crawford should be fine heading into Opening Day. Although, fantasy managers will have to check back after the MRI for more information.

Sat Mar 25 202311:16J.P. Crawford Going For X-Rays On His Foot
Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais said that shortstop J.P. Crawford (foot) will have X-rays on his foot on Saturday. Crawford fouled a ball off his foot in the batting cages on Friday but still took part in a full workout afterward. As a precaution, the team scratched him from the Cactus League lineup. We should know more on whether the 28-year-old will need to begin the season on the injured list by the end of this weekend. In his fourth year with the M's in 2022, Crawford slashed .243/.339/.336 with a .675 OPS, six home runs, 42 RBI and 57 runs scored in 145 games played. He's more of a defense-first player, but Crawford can provide a decent average and on-base numbers as a middle infielder in deeper leagues. But his lack of power and speed at a premium position doesn't make him all that attractive in mixed leagues.

Sat Mar 18 202319:03J.P. Crawford Expected To Play On Monday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (shoulder) is expected to return to action for Monday's Cactus League matchup. The left-handed slugger has been dealing with a minor shoulder issue, but appears to be doing better. Crawford was able to take at-bats during a minor league game on Saturday. He didn't play the field, but fantasy managers shouldn't be concerned going forward. It sounds like Crawford is day-to-day and his availability for Opening Day shouldn't be in question.

Thu Sep 1 202211:03J.P. Crawford Returns On Thursday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (pectoral) is back at shortstop and is hitting sixth on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. Crawford will return after missing the last three games with a pectoral injury. Adam Frazier will move back to the keystone for the series finale against Detroit. Crawford is happy to see the calendar flip to September, as he went 17-for-78 (.218) with no home runs, six RBI, five runs scored and 10 strikeouts in 24 games in August. Overall, the 27-year-old is slashing .256/.335/.350 with five home runs, 33 RBI, 50 runs scored and three stolen bases in his 426 at-bats for the M's.

Wed Aug 31 202218:24J.P. Crawford Still Sidelined Against Tigers
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (pectoral) remains out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers. It will be Crawford's third straight game on the sidelines, but he could be available off the bench. Fantasy managers should consider the 27-year-old to be day-to-day. Perhaps he could use a little break heading into the final month of the regular season, as Crawford has gone 17-for-77 (.221) with no homers, six RBI, five runs scored and nine strikeouts in 23 games in August. Adam Frazier is handling the 6 on Wednesday and will bat seventh against Tigers left-hander Tyler Alexander. Frazier is a very low-upside DFS option. The 30-year-old has hit a mediocre .244/.309/.315 this year with only three homers, 33 RBI, 54 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 451 at-bats.

Fri Jul 15 202208:04J.P. Crawford Nursing Finger Bruise
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) was a late scratch from Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers. He is currently dealing with a bruised knuckle on his right index finger. He suffered the injury during Wednesday's game. The injury doesn't sound like anything major and Mariners manager Scott Servais is hopeful that Crawford can return on Friday. The 27-year-old has cooled off at the plate after a hot start to the year. Over 80 games, he owns a .266/.345/.382 slash line to go along with five home runs, 24 RBI and 41 runs.

Mon Jul 4 202216:03J.P. Crawford Returns From Four-Game Suspension
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford is returning from his four-game suspension on Monday and will hit second against San Diego Padres left-hander Sean Manaea. Crawford was suspended four games by the league for his involvement in a benches-clearing brawl against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels on June 26, but fantasy managers will get him back this week. The 27-year-old really struggled in the month of June before serving his suspension, but overall he's been solid in 2022, hitting .261/.343/.381 with five home runs, 21 RBI, 32 runs scored and three stolen bases in 268 at-bats. His fantasy managers will be hoping he can get back on track in July. Dylan Moore started at the 6 while Crawford was suspended, but now he should see some extra playing time in left field with Jesse Winker beginning a six-game suspension on Monday.

Thu Jun 30 202218:42J.P. Crawford Has Suspension Reduced To Four Games
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford said his suspension has been reduced from five games to four games, and he's beginning to serve it on Thursday night against the Oakland Athletics. Crawford was suspended for his role in a benches-clearing brawl with the division-rival Los Angeles Angels last Sunday. The 27-year-old will miss the entire weekend series against the A's, so fantasy managers need to get him out of their lineups in leagues that allow daily lineup moves. Dylan Moore is starting at shortstop and is hitting eighth against A's right-hander Adrian Martinez on Thursday, and he's likely to cover the 6 while Crawford is suspended. Crawford barely hit over the Mendoza Line in the month of June, so hopefully he'll be better when the calendar flips to July.

Thu Jun 30 202218:06J.P. Crawford Not Playing Thursday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics. If he doesn't get into the game on Thursday, Crawford will finish the month of June with a disappointing .202/.263/.289 slash line with one home run, nine RBI, 12 runs scored and two stolen bases in 26 games to drop his season line to .261/.343/.381 with five home runs, 21 RBI, 32 runs scored and three stolen bases in 306 plate appearances. Dylan Moore is starting at shortstop and is hitting eighth on Thursday against A's right-hander Adrian Martinez. Moore will be a low-upside deep sleeper in DFS on Thursday, as he's hitting just .163 (16-for-98) with three homers, 10 RBI and 10 steals on the season for the M's.

Mon Jun 27 202221:29J.P. Crawford Receives Five-Game Suspension
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford was given a five-game suspension by MLB for fighting during a bench-clearing brawl with the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Los Angeles pitcher Andrew Wantz hit outfielder Jesse Winker on the hip after being warned earlier in the game for throwing near the head of Julio Rodriguez. Crawford was part of the on-field incident that ensued, earning him five games out. The Seattle shortstop appears to be appealing his suspension as he is in the lineup against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday. Crawford is hitting .266 with five homers, 31 runs, 19 RBI, and three steals in 2022.

Wed Jun 15 202213:15J.P. Crawford Not Playing Wednesday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (illness) is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins, as expected. Crawford was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup due to flu-like symptoms, and he was considered doubtful to play on Wednesday. There's a chance the 27-year-old, who has been a must-start in fantasy this year, can return to the lineup as early as Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels. Dylan Moore will get another start at shortstop on Wednesday and will bat sixth against Twins right-hander Sonny Gray. Moore is hitting just .215 on the year with two home runs and eight RBI in 84 plate appearances, but he did go 1-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Crawford's absence on Tuesday night.

Thu May 19 202216:30J.P. Crawford Heading To The Bench Thursday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against left-hander Rich Hill and the Boston Red Sox. Dylan Moore is getting the start at shortstop and batting eighth in the game. Crawford started the year off strong, posting a 1.023 OPS in April. However, he's come down to earth quite a bit in May with a .218/.279/.309 slash line so far this month. He has just one extra-base hit (a double) over his last 14 games.

Wed May 18 202209:26J.P. Crawford Limps Off Field Tuesday, But Should Be Fine
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (ankle) exited Tuesday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the ninth inning. After grounding out in his final at-bat of the game, he limped off the field. After the game, Mariners manager Scott Servais stated that as Crawford swung the bat in his final plate appearance, his backswing hit the back of his ankle. Servais said that it was nothing major and that he thinks Crawford will be fine. The 27-year-old has been a nice surprise for the Mariners this year. Over 35 games, he's slashed .302/.384/.468 with four home runs, 11 RBI and 16 runs.

Tue May 10 202217:16J.P. Crawford Returns To Lineup
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (back) is back at shortstop and is hitting third against Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola on Tuesday. Crawford missed his second straight game due to back spasms on Monday, but he'll return to Seattle's starting lineup on Tuesday. Dylan Moore, who had started at the 6 with Crawford out, will head back to the bench. Fantasy managers need to return Crawford back to their starting lineups in all season-long leagues, as he's been great in his first 28 games with a .340/.435/.546 slash line, four home runs, 10 RBI, 14 runs scored and one stolen base while hitting in the heart of Seattle's batting order.

Mon May 9 202221:20J.P. Crawford Could Be Back In Lineup Tuesday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (back) left Saturday's game with back spasms and has been sidelined the past two days. He is hoping to be able to take some swings on Monday with the possibility of returning to the lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Dylan Moore has been covering shortstop in Crawford's absence while the latter rests up. Crawford is hitting .340 with four homers, 14 runs, 10 RBI, and a steal in what has the looks of a breakout season.

Sun May 8 202200:11J.P. Crawford Leaves With Back Spasms
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford left Saturday's contest versus the Rays with back spasms after diving into first base in the third inning. He remained in the game for the defensive half of the fourth inning, but was pulled before the fifth on a chilly evening in Seattle. The injury seems to be a minor one on the surface, but expect the club to update his status tonight or before tomorrow's series finale. Crawford is having a superb season by hitting .340 with four homers, 14 runs, and 10 RBI through 28 games, so fingers crossed this injury doesn't linger and effect his swing the rest of the way.

Mon Apr 25 202214:45J.P. Crawford Drawing Plenty Of Walks In 2022
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford currently has a 14.7% walk rate and a .471 on-base percentage through his first 68 plate appearances of the 2022 season. The veteran is also batting .352 with a pair of home runs and a stolen base. Perhaps most crucially, he's walked more than he's struck out, with 10 walks compared to four strikeouts so far. While he began the year hitting towards the bottom of the order, Crawford hit fifth in Seattle's game against the Chicago White Sox on April 14 and has batted fifth in all but one of his starts since.

Fri Apr 8 202210:38Mariners Extend J.P. Crawford On Five-Year Deal
The Seattle Mariners and shortstop J.P. Crawford have agreed to a five-year, $51 million contract extension on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports. The agreement covers the rest of his arbitration, plus two years of free agency. Crawford, 27, is beginning his fourth season in Seattle and slashed .273/.338/.376 with nine home runs, 89 runs, 54 RBI and three stolen bases over 160 games last season. However, after primarily leading off in 2021, the former first-round pick looks to be displaced at the top of the order by offseason acquisition Adam Frazier and might be moved into the ninth spot, according to RosterResource. Without the same amount of counting stats he offered fantasy managers last season, Crawford won't give much outside of everyday at-bats.

Wed Mar 23 202213:31Mariners Avoid Arbitration With J.P. Crawford
The Seattle Mariners avoided salary arbitration with shortstop J.P. Crawford on Tuesday by agreeing on a one-year, $4.85 million deal. Crawford is a defense-first player, but the 27-year-old had his best season offensively in 2021 when he hit .273/.338/.376 with a career-high nine home runs, 54 RBI and 89 runs scored in 687 plate appearances over 160 games for the M's. At a premier position with plenty of power-hitting options now available, Crawford isn't very enticing in fantasy leagues, outside of deep mixed and AL-only leagues as a middle infield option.
