Sat Jun 17 202323:07Jordan Hicks Slams Door On Mets For First Save
St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks struck out a trio of batters for a hitless ninth inning to safeguard a 5-3 win over the New York Mets on Saturday. The 26-year-old obtained his first save of the year. Presumed interim closer Giovanny Gallegos got the eighth inning in this one. Hicks seems to be in the mix for closing duties and is worth a look in deep fantasy leagues with Ryan Helsley (forearm) sidelined and Gallegos having blown his most recent save chance on June 14. The flame-throwing righty has fanned 48 with a 4.30 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 29 1/3 innings this season. Hicks is up in the top-five percent of baseball in average exit velocity against in 2023, but walks (6.4 BB/9) have plagued him.

Mon Apr 17 202308:12Jordan Hicks Moving To A Low-Leverage Role
St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters on Sunday that right-hander John Hicks will pitch in low-leverage situations for the time being, according to John Denton of MLB.com. The 26-year-old has posted an ugly 12.71 ERA with six punchouts and eight walks across 5.2 innings. Hicks has been an effective reliever in the past but hasn't produced an ERA below 4.84 since 2019 and has struggled to stay healthy. With this news, fantasy managers that were holding onto the former 2015 draft pick should let him go in virtually every league, as he won't participate in save or hold situations.

Wed Oct 5 202214:48Jordan Hicks Activated From Injured List
The St. Louis Cardinals activated right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks (arm) from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday. The 25-year-old has made 34 appearances for the National League Central club this season, eight of which were starts. He's thrown 60.1 innings, pitching to a 4.92 ERA and a 4.19 FIP in those 60.1 innings while registering 63 strikeouts and 35 walks. The right-hander has also logged eight holds as a reliever for the Cardinals.

Sat Sep 17 202218:41Jordan Hicks Heads To Injured List
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks (arm, neck) has been placed on the injured list. The right-hander hasn't pitched since September 15th due to arm fatigue and neck spasms. The 26-year-old has a 4.92 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 63/35 K/BB ratio across 60.3 innings of work. The organization has recalled left-hander Steven Matz in a corresponding move. This won't mean too much in terms of fantasy baseball because both players were struggling. At this point, it's probably a good idea to avoid both players.

Sat Jun 11 202214:16Jordan Hicks Will Throw Bullpen Session On Sunday
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks (forearm) will throw his first bullpen session on Sunday, June 12. The 25-year-old flamethrower was retroactively placed on the 15-day injured list back on May 25 with a right forearm flexor strain. He mostly struggled prior to the injury with a 1-4 record, 5.02 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 29:20 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings (nine appearances, seven starts). He should be back with the team in mid to late July, barring any setbacks in his rehab.

Sun Jun 5 202219:12Jordan Hicks Started Throwing Program
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks (forearm) has started his throwing program, according to manager Oliver Marmol. The plan is to get Marmol back on the mound in roughly a week. He's expected to need a minor league rehab assignment before returning to the Cardinals roster. It's uncertain if Hicks is going to be a starter or reliever when he does get back to the big leagues. It sounds like the Cardinals will have at least until July to make a decision on Hicks.

Thu May 26 202216:42Jordan Hicks Lands On 15-Day Injured List
The St. Louis Cardinals placed right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks (forearm) on the 15-day injured list on Thursday. The move is retroactive to May 25. Hicks is dealing with a right forearm flexor injury. The 25-year-old has been struggling in his role as a starter this year. He's pitched to a 5.02 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP over nine appearances (seven starts). The biggest problem for Hicks has been his control as he's averaged 6.3 BB/9. Hicks landing on the injured list should all but secure at least a few more starts for rookie Matthew Liberatore.

Thu May 12 202211:36Jordan Hicks Scratched Thursday, Steven Matz Starting
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jordan Hicks has been scratched from his scheduled start on Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles for undisclosed reasons, and left-hander Steven Matz is now listed as the starter. We'll update you as soon as we know the reason as to why Hicks was scratched from his start, so stay tuned. If the 25-year-old is able to return at some point this weekend, he'd be facing the San Francisco Giants. Matz has a rough 7.01 ERA and 1.64 WHIP through his first six starts for St. Louis, but his 3.86 FIP suggests he's seen some bad luck in the early going. The crafty lefty will have a perfect get-right spot on Thursday against the Orioles as the fill-in for Hicks.

Thu Apr 28 202221:24Jordan Hicks Expected To Start Sunday
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks (wrist) is expected to make his next start Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. After being hit by a comebacker, the right-hander was removed from last Tuesday's start against the Mets with a right wrist contusion. His X-rays on his injured wrist came back negative, and Hicks avoided a significant injury. The 26-year-old is sporting a 1-2 record, 3.00 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and a 9:6 K: BB across nine innings in 2022. Fantasy managers can use Hicks as a streamer for his start, but don't expect the right-hander to pitch deep into the game.

Tue Apr 26 202221:42X-Rays Come Back Negative For Jordan Hicks
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks (wrist) underwent X-rays on his bruised right wrist, which were negative. He was removed from Tuesday's start against the Mets with a right wrist contusion after being hit by a comebacker. The 26-year-old appears to have avoided a significant injury and is considered day-to-day. Hicks is scheduled to start Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the situation, as the right-hander can be used as a streamer, if healthy, in a plus matchup against the Diamondbacks.

Tue Apr 26 202221:12Jordan Hicks Exits Tuesday's Start Early
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks (wrist) was removed from Tuesday's start against the Mets with a right wrist contusion. He was hit in the wrist by a comebacker during the second inning but remained in the game. The 25-year-old was in pain shortly after and was lifted in the third inning. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one across two innings before leaving. The severity of Hicks' wrist injury is unknown at this time, and he's considered day-to-day. Hicks will continue to be evaluated, but the status for his next start is up in the air. Stay tuned.

Fri Apr 22 202200:52Jordan Hicks Lasts Three Frames In First Start
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks gave up one run over three innings in his first start of the season on Thursday as his club fell to the Marlins 5-0. The right-hander walked two and struck out three in the 46-pitch effort, allowing two hits and his lone run to come around on a fielder's choice groundout. Hicks had made two-scoreless relief appearances this season prior to this start, tossing 27 pitches and then 35 pitches in those outings as he slowly transitions into a starting role. His high-velocity arm has made him a stellar reliever in the past, and he was still able to keep his sinker above 100 MPH in this one, so he makes an intriguing pitcher to keep your eye on as he looks ahead to a date with the Mets next week.

Wed Apr 6 202215:39Jordan Hicks Named No. 5 Starter
St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Jordan Hicks will open the year as the team's No. 5 starter. Jack Flaherty (shoulder) will begin the season on the injured list, so his injury opened up a spot in the starting rotation. Hicks was expected to have a shot at save chances alongside Giovanny Gallegos and others in 2022, but for now, he'll begin the year as an opener. The 25-year-old's longest outing in spring training was for 1 1/3 frames, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect to get much out of Hicks in DFS. Hicks could be an option for saves later in the year, but most fantasy managers can ignore him for now in redraft leagues, especially since he's only thrown 38 2/3 innings over the last three years due to injuries -- he did not pitch at all in 2020 after opting out.

Fri Mar 11 202209:13Alex Reyes, Jordan Hicks Unlikely For Rotation
St. Louis Cardinals pitchers Alex Reyes and Jordan Hicks seem to both be destined for bullpen roles, at least to start the year, according to a Tweet from Cardinals beat writer Jeff Jones. In his Tweet, Jones reported that Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol stated, "I do think getting Alex and Jordan stretched is going to be much more challenging than in a normal time." Neither Reyes nor Hicks started a game for the team last year. Hicks only appeared in a total of 10 games and struggled to the tune of a 5.40 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Reyes, meanwhile, led the team in saves with 29, while pitching to a 3.24 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. Giovanny Gallegos is currently the frontrunner for saves in St. Louis this year, but both Reyes and Hicks could emerge as saves candidates as well.

Sun Aug 22 202115:21Jordan Hicks Unlikely To Pitch Again This Year
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks (elbow) is unlikely to pitch again in 2021, according to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News Democrat. General manager John Mozeliak said that it doesn't seem that it will be very likely that Hicks will pitch again for St. Louis this season, and the team is currently focused on finding a spot for him to pitch on a winter league team. Hicks has been out since the beginning of May with right elbow inflammation, and had only just begun throwing again last week. At this point, it appears there's no reason for managers in redraft formats to continue to roster him.

Tue Aug 17 202121:09Jordan Hicks Throws Bullpen Session Monday
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks (elbow) threw a bullpen session at Busch Stadium on Monday. It was the first time he's thrown since landing on the 10-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. The Cardinals right-hander has been sidelined since early May and reportedly was uncertain to return this season. Hicks is trending in the right direction and, barring any setbacks, could begin a rehab assignment soon. He owned a 5.40 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 10 strikeouts across 10 appearances in 2021. Hicks remains day-to-day and fantasy managers with an open IL spot can continue to stash him in in deep-league formats.

Tue Apr 6 202102:42Stanton's 471-foot slam lifts Yankees over O's 7-0
NEW YORK (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton hit a grand slam over the visitors’ bullpen that landed in the left-bleachers 471 feet from home plate, helping New York hand Baltimore its first loss this season. New York was ahead 1-0 on Aaron Judge’s fourth-inning homer when starter Jorge López (0-1) walked the bases loaded in the fifth, and Shawn Armstrong forced in a run with a walk to slumping Aaron Hicks. Stanton sent a 92 mph fastball soaring for the longest home run of the young major league season and his eighth career slam. New York improved to 8-0 when Judge and Stanton homer in the same game, including three postseason wins. Left-hander Jordan Montgomery (1-0) allowed four hits in six innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. DODGERS 10, ATHLETICS 3 OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Will Smith homered off the left-field foul pole, Corey Seager and Zach McKinstry each drove in three runs, and Los Angeles pounded winless Oakland.
