Sat Jul 8 202310:06Ha-Seong Kim Suffers Jammed Toe On Friday
San Diego Padres second baseman Ha-Seong Kim (toe) jammed his toe while kicking a full water cooler in Friday's 7-5 loss to the New York Mets. The 27-year-old sustained the injury in the dugout during the seventh inning after attempting a triple and being thrown out at third base by Tommy Pham. He ultimately exited during the top of the ninth and was replaced by Rougned Odor, who figures to see more action if Kim needs to miss time. Kim's X-rays came back negative, so he should be deemed day-to-day. Fantasy managers should check back closer to game time for an official update on the speedy infielder's status, but it's fair to expect a possible day off.

Sat Jul 1 202312:05Ha-Seong Kim Returns To Action Against Reds
San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim (hamstring) is back in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds and left-hander Brandon Williamson, starting at second base and batting leadoff as the Padres attempt to end their six-game losing skid. The Friars held Kim out as a precaution on Friday due to a tight hamstring, but he came off the bench to pinch hit and walked. The 27-year-old has been one of the team's hottest hitters of late, as he's gone 14-for-40 (.350) with four home runs, 11 RBI and two stolen bases in his last 11 games. SD will hope he can set the table on Saturday, and he'll be a decent play in DFS as he looks to stay hot at the plate. Kim is mostly useful for his speed in fantasy leagues, and he's also eligible at multiple infield spots.

Fri Jun 30 202321:53Ha-Seong Kim Dealing With Hamstring Strain
San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim (hamstring) is dealing with a left-hamstring strain, which is why he wasn't in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Cincinnati Reds. Kim might have been able to play, but the Padres didn't want to risk making it worse. The 27-year-old is day-to-day, and he could be back in action for the second game of the series on Saturday. The Padres could use hit hot bat in their lineup as they look to stop a recent losing skid. Kim has gone 14-for-40 (.350) with four long balls, 11 RBI and two stolen bases in his last 10 games to raise his season slash line to .258/.344/.411 with nine home runs, 30 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 36 runs scored. He's most useful for his speed and positional versatility in deep-mixed affairs.

Fri Jun 30 202314:39Ha-Seong Kim Takes A Seat On Friday
San Diego Padres third baseman Ha-Seong Kim is absent from the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. This is a well-deserved rest day for Kim after he has been destroying the baseball lately. Over the last week, Kim is hitting .321/.394/.786 with four home runs and nine RBI. Rougned Odor will make the start at second base while Matt Carpenter serves as the designated hitter versus right-hander Graham Ashcraft on Friday.

Wed Jun 28 202312:51Ha-Seong Kim Picks Up Three Hits In Leadoff Spot
San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim set the table nicely as the leadoff hitter on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough in the 9-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first game of the series. Kim went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a strikeout in the game. Kim has been pretty mediocre offensive all season long, but he's heating up of late and has gone an impressive 17-for-43 (.395) with three home runs, a double, nine RBI and two stolen bases in his last 12 games. The 27-year-old South Korean infielder is now hitting .258 (62-for-240) on the season with eight home runs, 10 doubles, 28 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 35 runs scored in 75 games in his third MLB season. Kim is most useful in deeper leagues for his speed and positional versatility.

Mon Jun 19 202318:47Ha-Seong Kim Returns on Monday
San Diego Padres second baseman Ha-Seong Kim is back in the starting lineup Monday night against the rival San Francisco Giants. Kim mostly got the afternoon off on Sunday, entering the game as a defensive replacement for fellow second baseman Rougned Odor but did not get a chance to make a trip to the plate. The 27-year-old has had a solid season at the plate, hitting .245 with five homers, 10 stolen bases, and a .708 OPS across 243 trips to the plate. His 11.9% BB% has helped him produce a 101 wRC+ that is one tick above the league average while he continues to provide some speed on the basepaths. He remains a borderline fantasy option at the second base position.

Sun Jun 18 202315:01Ha-Seong Kim Absent From Sunday's Lineup
San Diego Padres second baseman Ha-Seong Kim isn't in the lineup for Sunday's matchup with Yonny Chirinos and the Tampa Bay Rays. The slick fielder is slashing .245/.338/.370 this year with five long balls and 11 steals over 66 games. Rougned Odor is taking over at second instead and batting sixth. The 29-year-old is batting .216 across 39 games with four homers and two steals. Odor has been an irrelevant fantasy option since the start of 2017, and it should continue that way going forward.

Sun Jun 11 202313:04Ha-Seong Kim Out Of The Lineup On Sunday
San Diego Padres second baseman Ha-Seong Kim is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Colorado Rockies. This is just a day off for the 27-year-old, who has notched five stolen bases over the last 15 contests. He's slashing .242/.339/.374 with five home runs, 20 RBI, and 11 stolen bases across 190 at-bats for the season. Veteran Rougned Odor is starting at the keystone and batting seventh in place of Kim.

Sat May 27 202312:04Ha-Seong Kim Returns To Lineup Saturday
San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim (knee) is back in the starting lineup on Saturday and is starting at shortstop and batting eighth against the New York Yankees and right-hander Luis Severino. Kim is starting at the 6 with Xander Bogaerts dealing with some wrist soreness. Kim fouled a ball off his left knee on Thursday and had to be helped off the field and also missed the series opener against the Yankees on Friday, but he's back in there Saturday. The 27-year-old will be a low-upside DFS option near the bottom of San Diego's batting order in this one, and he's hitting just .237 (36-for-152) with seven doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI and six stolen bases on the year in 172 plate appearances and 47 games.

Fri May 26 202316:11Ha-Seong Kim Not Playing Friday
San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim (knee) is not in the team's starting lineup on Friday as they begin a three-game series in the Bronx against the New York Yankees. Kim was helped off the field by two trainers on Thursday against the Washington Nationals after he fouled a ball off his left knee. However, X-rays came back negative, and the Padres are hoping the 27-year-old can avoid a trip to the injured list. Even if Kim doesn't go on the IL, he could end up missing the entire weekend series against New York. Rougned Odor is starting at third base and hitting fifth, Jake Cronenworth is at the keystone and batting second and Brandon Dixon is starting at first and hitting seventh against Yankees rookie right-hander Randy Vasquez on Friday.

Thu May 25 202323:13X-Rays Negative On Ha-Seong Kim
X-rays came back negative on San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim's left knee, according to manager Bob Melvin. Kim is still doubtful to play on Friday for the series opener in the Bronx against the New York Yankees, but he might be able to avoid an injured-list stint. The 27-year-old was helped off the field by two team trainers after he fouled a ball off his left knee early in Thursday's contest against the Washington Nationals, but he may have avoided a serious injury. With Manny Machado (hand) still on the injured list, Rougned Odor, who had a crucial go-ahead home run and five RBI in Thursday's win, is likely to draw the start at the hot corner for the Friars on Friday. Kim continues to play regularly for the Padres in 2023 and is hitting .237 (36-for-152) with seven doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI and six steals in 46 games.

Thu May 25 202316:41Ha-Seong Kim Injures Knee Thursday
San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim (knee) had to be helped off the field by two athletic trainers during Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals after he fouled a ball off his left knee in the second inning. Brandon Dixon replaced Kim in the lineup. It looked like a pretty serious injury for the 27-year-old, but we won't know more until the Padres provide us with an update, which will likely come after the game. It's bad news for an already struggling team with All-Star third baseman Manny Machado (hand) currently on the injured list. Until Machado is able to return, expect Dixon and Rougned Odor to handle playing time at the hot corner in San Diego. Kim came into the series finale in D.C. hitting .237 (36-for-152) on the year with seven doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI and six steals in 46 games played.

Thu Dec 29 202222:46Padres Could Trade Ha-Seong Kim, Trent Grisham
The San Diego Padres have publicly downplayed the possibility of trading infielder Ha-Seong Kim or center fielder Trent Grisham this offseason in order to acquire more starting pitching. However, industry sources have indicated that the Padres are open to discussing either player -- Grisham, in particular. The Miami Marlins are a team that could make sense as a trade partner, and San Diego has expressed interest in right-hander Pablo Lopez. He's not eligible for free agency until after 2024. Yu Darvish, Blake Snell, Nick Martinez and Seth Lugo can all test free agency after 2023. Grisham's value plunged in 2022 after he hit .184, including .199 against fastballs. Kim showed improvement from his first MLB season, but he's always likely to be known as a glove-first player.

Fri Oct 21 202218:47Ha-Seong Kim Leading Off For Padres Friday
San Diego Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim will bat leadoff in Game 3 of the NLCS against lefty Ranger Suarez and the Philadelphia Phillies. It appears the Phillies like Kim hitting leadoff against lefties instead of Jurickson Profar, who has been at the top of the order against righties. The two will switch spots in the batting order for tonight's game, and will likely split the leadoff role moving forward. Kim hasn't done much to prove himself this postseason, going 6-for-32 with no homers, one RBI, and one stolen base. Still, he did enough during the season to earn the trust of manager Bob Melvin.

Wed Oct 12 202218:01Ha-Seong Kim Batting Leadoff For Friars Wednesday
San Diego Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim is starting at shortstop and is batting leadoff in Game 2 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers and left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Jurickson Profar, who has hit leadoff in every postseason game for the Padres to this point, has been dropped to seventh in the batting order. Kim went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the Game 1 loss on Tuesday and is hitting .250 (3-for-12 ) with two doubles, four walks and six strikeouts in four postseason games to this point in 2022. The 26-year-old Korean hit .270 (43-for-159) with two of his 11 home runs, 18 RBI, 19 runs scored and five stolen bases against left-handed pitchers during the regular season.

Sat Jul 30 202213:18Ha-Seong Kim Adds Homer And Steal
San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim contributed across the board in Friday's 10-1 win over the Minnesota Twins, picking up two hits in three at-bats with a home run, a steal, and two runs scored. He now has six homers and six steals on the season. With just a .692 OPS in 338 plate appearances this season, Kim is no fantasy stand-out, but any player that contributes in both the power and speed categories holds some value. This is true of Kim, who has seen plenty of playing time of late, though that could dry up as soon as Fernando Tatis Jr. makes his long-awaited return.

Thu Jul 7 202222:06Ha-Seong Kim Dealing With Thumb Issue
San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim (thumb) is dealing with a minor thumb issue that has caused him to be out of the lineup for the team's previous two games. He sustained his thumb injury on Monday, but the injury isn't considered serious as the 26-year-old is expected to return soon. Kim is slashing .233/.322/.356 slash line with five home runs, 27 RBI, 31 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 289 plate appearances. The Padres utility infielder will be available off the bench, and his next chance to return to the starting lineup is Friday against the San Francisco Giants.

Mon Aug 2 202112:48Ha-Seong Kim Enjoys Rare Offensive Outburst
San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI Sunday against the Colorado Rockies. Kim contributed to a four-run first inning with a bases loaded, two-run double before launching a solo homer in the sixth frame. With the injury to shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (shoulder), Kim will be amongst the depth pieces relied upon to support the offense while the Padres star is out. While he's shown flashes with a 112.3 mph max exit velocity, Kim has struggled in his rookie campaign, slashing .214/.273/.364 with six dingers, five steals and 49 runs-plus-RBI in 228 plate appearances. Kim won't play every day due to the versatility within the Friars infield, but he'll certainly get more opportunities. A reasonable DFS punt, Kim still needs to show more offensive prowess before he's a realistic season-long option.
