Sat Apr 24 202100:50A's run winning streak to 12, beating Orioles 3-1
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Oakland Athletics won their 12th consecutive game — their longest winning streak in almost two decades — with a 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. Oakland’s string is its longest since it won a franchise-record 20 in a row in 2002. It is the Athletics’ third-longest winning streak since moving to Oakland in 1968, and is the longest in the majors since Houston’s 12-game run from June 6-18, 2018. Ramón Laureano homered and Cole Irvin won consecutive starts for the first time in nearly two years as the A’s improved to 13-1 since dropping their first six games. Baltimore has lost seven of its eight home games. Irvin (2-2) had won back-to-back starts just once before, his first two career starts for Philadelphia in May 2019. Coming off six shutout innings against Detroit on Saturday, he stymied the Orioles for five innings. But Baltimore stitched together four singles in the sixth, capped by Pedro Severino’s RBI single, to end Irvin’s night. Jake Diekman... [More]

Sun Apr 4 202103:17Feisty Reds top Cardinals 9-6 for 1st win of season
CINCINNATI (AP) — Nick Castellanos stood over, flexed and jawed at St. Louis pitcher Jake Woodford after scoring, setting off a series of scuffles that included relievers shoving in the outfield as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Cardinals 9-6 Saturday. St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright was knocked around for six runs and chased in the third. The next inning, the teams started tagging each other. Castellanos, who homered on opening day and hopped out of the box before tossing his bat, was plunked by Woodford with two outs and none on in the fourth. Castellanos retrieved the ball and offered to toss it back to Woodford before flipping it out of play. A wild pitch soon sent Castellanos scampering home from third and he scored with a headfirst slide for a 7-2 lead as he bumped into Woodford, who took the throw from catcher Yadier Molina at the plate. As Castellanos began walking away, Molina rushed up and tapped him from behind, and the benches and bullpens emptied in a wild scene. There was... [More]

Wed Mar 31 202120:26Cole looks forward to family and fans at Yankee Stadium
NEW YORK (AP) — Gerrit Cole’s dad will watch him pitch at Yankee Stadium in pinstripes for the first time, one of about 10,850 fans allowed in to watch New York’s opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. “I had trouble sleeping last night, so I probably anticipate going to be the same thing tonight,” Cole said Wednesday. “There’s just a lot of different emotions. Everybody is tired of spring training, ready for opening day. Most people’s families are in town, which is special. There’s a lot of hope. There’s a lot of excitement. There’s a lot of projections. There’s a lot of baseball out in front of you. And you’ve prepared up to this point and there’s nothing else. You just want the gates to open and you want it to start.” Cole’s first season with Yankees was played entirely without fans because of the pandemic. “It was a bit surreal at first, and then it became kind of standard operating procedure. There were more important things that we needed to focus on,” Cole said. “Every time I see... [More]

Sat Sep 5 201514:28Luetge outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday
Luetge was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Shannon Drayer of ESPN 710 AM in Seattle reports.
Luetge has made only one appearance for the Mariners this season, spending the bulk of the year at Triple-A. Saturday's move simply removes him from the 40-man roster, making it even more likely that he'll finish out the year at Tacoma.
Fri May 29 201518:23Luetge recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday
Luetge was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, the Tacoma News-Tribune's Bob Dutton reports.
Joe Beimel took a leave of absence for personal reasons so the Mariners needed bullpen reinforcements. Don't look for Luetge to get too many opportunities in high leverage situations while he is up with the Mariners.
Sun Apr 26 201501:14Luetge The News Tribune reports
Luetge The News Tribune reports.
Roenis Elias was called back up from Triple-A Tacoma to pitch on Sunday. Luetge pitched 2.1 scoreless and hitless innings while striking out two batters and walking two as well. This was Luetge's first game with the Mariners this season.
Fri Apr 24 201521:17Luetge recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday
Luetge was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
He will serve as another lefty in the Mariners' bullpen in the short term, but with several more accomplished relievers already on the roster, Luetge is unlikely to be used in many high-leverage spots. He had a 3.32 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 62.1 innings at Triple-A last season.
Sat Mar 21 201513:42Luetge
Luetge, who was competing for a left-handed bullpen job, was optioned to Tripe-A on Friday, the Seattle Times reports.
For the second year in a row, Luetge failed to make the roster out of spring training. He'll likely bounce between Tacoma and Seattle again this year. Luetge's fate was perhaps sealed last week after consecutive poor outings in which he gave up three runs and five hits in 1.2 innings. Rafael Perez was also cut, leaving David Rollins, Tyler Olson and Joe Saunders competing for the second lefty role behind Charlie Furbush. There's no guarantee, though, the Mariners keep two left-handers.

Luetge was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.
Aside from a handful appearances with the major league club in the first half, Luetge has spent the year at Tacoma, posting a 3.32 ERA and 10.1 K/9 in 62.1 innings. He's earned a spot on the September roster but may work primarily as a LOOGY over the remainder of the season.

Luetge has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
The move frees up a roster spot for the recall of Erasmo Ramirez, who will start Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Luetge has been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, the Tacoma News-Tribune's Bob Dutton reports.
He will likely only be up to add bullpen depth for Friday and Saturday's game, as he'll probably be sent back down when Erasmo Ramirez is recalled to start Sunday.
