Sun Jul 30 202314:08Nathan Eovaldi Hits 15-Day Injured List On Sunday
The Texas Rangers have placed starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain. Right-hander Grant Anderson has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. The 33-year-old Eovaldi was originally penciled in for Sunday's start against the San Diego Padres, but was pushed back from that spot on Saturday. This development has now taken a more significant turn and it looks as if Eovaldi could be sidelined for at least three more potential starts, having last pitched on July 18. The right-hander has experienced a decrease in velocity of late as well, so the first-place Rangers will allot Eovaldi some time to get right. The recently-acquired Max Scherzer's arrival to the rotation will certainly be a welcome one. Eovaldi, a 2023 All-Star, takes a 2.69 ERA, an MLB-best 1.01 WHIP, and 111:34 K:BB over 123 2/3 innings to the sidelines.

Sat Jul 29 202322:06Nathan Eovaldi's Start On Sunday Pushed Back Due To Elbow Soreness
Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) won't start Sunday against the Padres due to some soreness in his elbow. According to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, Eovaldi underwent an MRI, which came back clean. The 33-year-old is not expected to be placed on the injured list. He has yet to pitch since July 18. Eovaldi has been terrific this season, posting a 2.69 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 111: 34 K: BB across 123 2/3 innings. It's still being determined when Eovaldi will make his next start. Cody Bradford will replace Eovaldi and start the series finale against the Padres on Sunday.

Wed Jul 26 202319:46Rangers Plan To Start Nathan Eovaldi On Sunday
The plan is for Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi to return to the rotation and start on Sunday in the series finale against the San Diego Padres, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Eovaldi recently experienced a drop in velocity, and the Rangers decided to skip his turn in the rotation earlier this week as a result. The 33-year-old veteran hurler earned his second career All-Star nod in 2023 and has been excellent for the Rangers this year with an 11-3 record, league-best 2.69 ERA (3.25 FIP), 1.01 WHIP, 34 walks and 111 strikeouts in 123 2/3 innings over his 19 starts. Eovaldi will be well-rested this weekend and will be going up against a pretty lackluster Padres offense that ranks 14 out of 15 teams in the National League in batting average.

Sun Jul 23 202313:08Nathan Eovaldi Will Have Monday's Start Skipped
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi will have Monday's scheduled start against the Houston Astros skipped, per manager Bruce Bochy. While the 33-year-old hurler hasn't performed poorly over his last few starts, his velocity has declined, which Bochy mentioned to reporters. Beat writer Evan Grant noted that Eovaldi averaged 93.1 MPH in his last start against the Rays, down 2.3 MPH from his average this season. Given Eovaldi's age and injury history, it would make sense that the Rangers try and get him some extra rest down the stretch. Jon Gray will get the nod on Monday against Houston in his place.

Tue Jul 18 202308:54Nathan Eovaldi Trying To Bounce Back In Tuesday's Start
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi will take the hill for Tuesday's game against Taj Bradley and the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-hander will want better results than his last appearance when he went 5 1/3 innings while allowing four runs on four walks. Still, Eovaldi has provided a ton of value this season, pitching to a 2.83 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 24.0% strikeout rate, and a 10-3 record across 18 starts. The Rays represent a tough matchup, but the 33-year-old has turned himself into a must-start this season in all formats.

Sun Jun 25 202312:33Nathan Eovaldi Ironing Out Mechanical Issues
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi said he dealt with a "mechanical issue" during his last start on June 20 against the Chicago White Sox that led to a drop in velocity. Eovaldi went six innings in that game and allowed four runs on five hits (two homers) while walking two and striking out four. Despite the drop in velocity, the 33-year-old right-hander said he felt fine physically, and the Rangers moved up his next start from Monday against the Detroit Tigers to Sunday against the New York Yankees in the series finale in the Bronx. The Yankees have been struggling mightily offensively without Aaron Judge (toe), and Eovaldi has been one of the best pitchers in the league this year, going 9-3 with a 2.80 ERA (3.11 FIP), 0.99 WHIP, 21 walks and 96 K's in 99 2/3 innings over his 15 starts. Keep him locked in your lineups against New York.

Sun Jun 4 202321:02Nathan Eovaldi On A Warpath, Spins Scoreless One-Hitter
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi twirled another scoreless gem on Sunday. The right-hander was scratched by just one hit over six innings with seven strikeouts en route to his eighth win of the year as the team sunk the Seattle Mariners 12-3. The 33-year-old is firing on all cylinders right now and added to what has become perhaps baseball's most dazzling pitching journey of 2023 thus far. Eovaldi has notched five scoreless starts of at least five innings including two shutouts since his warpath began on April 29. The former All-Star is undefeated over his last seven appearances (6-0) with an immaculate 0.68 ERA across 52 2/3 innings during this stretch. Eovaldi's reign of terror will face its mightiest foe yet on Saturday versus Shane McClanahan and the Tampa Bay Rays for a clash of the titans.

Wed May 24 202300:25Nathan Eovaldi Earns Complete-Game Win Tuesday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi continued to deal in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Pirates. Eovaldi pitched all nine innings, giving up six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. The 33-year-old has had an excellent start to his Rangers tenure, going 6-2 with a 2.60 ERA, 8.57 K/9 rate, and 1.43BB/9 rate in 10 starts. While pitching has been quite variable this season, Eovaldi has served as a consistent source of production for fantasy managers. He should be able to continue that trend in his next start at the Tigers.

Tue May 23 202310:28Nathan Eovaldi Getting The Ball Tuesday
Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi is scheduled to start Tuesday to face Rich Hill and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 33-year-old is on a stellar run, tossing six consecutive quality starts, and owns a 2.83 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 26.2% strikeout rate, and 4.3% walk rate with five victories over nine games. Fantasy managers have to start Eovaldi whenever they can, and the Pirates aren't too big of a task, as they're running about a league average .724 OPS as a club.

Fri May 12 202301:16Nathan Eovaldi Hurls Another Gem
Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi continued his dominant stretch on Thursday, picking up his third consecutive win in a 4-0 shutout over the Oakland Athletics. The flamethrower threw 8 innings of dominant ball, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out a career-high 12. He has now gone at least 8 innings in his last three starts and has allowed zero runs in all three games. He now owns a 5-2 record to go with a 2.70 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts over 53 IP. This may be a good time to dangle Eovaldi out there and see what you can fetch for him, but only for good value in return.

Sun May 7 202308:33Nathan Eovaldi Dominates Again In Win Over Angels
Texas Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi had another tremendous showing against the Angels on Saturday, firing eight scoreless innings with five strikeouts in the triumph. After Eovaldi went the distance for a shutout during his last start against his former Yankees team, the 33-year-old twirled another gem on 107 pitches in this one. The right-handed hurler hasn't surrendered a run in his last 17 innings now, improving his ERA to a solid 3.22 figure over his last four starts after struggling to a 6.32 ERA following his third appearance on April 12. He's lined up for a mouthwatering draw against the Athletics on Thursday, where Eovaldi should be deemed a good bet to attain his third consecutive win against a squad with a ghastly 7.29 ERA as a team.

Sat Apr 29 202315:21Nathan Eovaldi Toeing The Rubber Saturday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is scheduled to make his sixth start of the season on Saturday against Jhony Brito and the New York Yankees. The results haven't been there yet in 2023, as he owns a 5.20 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. Better things are likely coming, though, considering Eovaldi's 26.3% strikeout rate and 4.2% walk rate while he's been able to limit the home runs (0.33 HR/9). Fantasy managers should continue starting the 33-year-old, even against the Yankees, as he tries to win his third game of the season.

Thu Mar 16 202311:52Nathan Eovaldi Likely To Be On Pitch Count Early On
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (side) is likely to be on a pitch count early in the 2023 regular season, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Eovaldi is recovering from left-side tightness in spring training and will likely be limited to 75-80 pitches to open the regular season as the Rangers take a conservative approach with him. It makes sense, given that the 33-year-old right-hander was limited to only 20 starts with the Boston Red Sox in 2022 due to various injuries. His injuries caused his velocity and strikeout rate to drop, and he also had issues giving up the long ball in Beantown. Durability concerns are the biggest factor in Eovaldi's fantasy profile as he gets set to embark on his first season in Texas.

Mon Mar 13 202319:59Nathan Eovaldi Pitches Well In Triple-A Start
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (side) put together a strong outing during his Triple-A start on Monday. The right-hander struck out two batters, while allowing two hits over two scoreless frames of work. He was able to throw 22 of his 29 pitches for strikes, which is good news. The next step would be for Eovaldi to make his return to Cactus League action. The expectation is that Eovaldi will be ready for Opening Day, barring any setbacks. Fantasy managers should check back for another update on Eovaldi later in the week.

Sun Mar 12 202311:34Nathan Eovaldi To Start Triple-A Game Monday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (side) will start the team's Triple-A spring game on a back field on Monday. Like ace Jacob deGrom, Eovaldi has been a bit behind in camp while dealing with left side tightness. The Rangers are taking a cautious approach with both starters, but they will test it out in minor-league action to begin the week. If Eovaldi can avoid setbacks, he could get into a Cactus League game his next time out. The 33-year-old right-hander still has a shot to be in the Opening Day rotation in his first year in Texas. He was limited to 20 outings for the Boston Red Sox in 2022 due to injuries, which helps explain his drop in strikeout rate and velocity. Injuries and his issues with the long ball are concerning.

Wed Mar 8 202314:13Nathan Eovaldi To Throw Light Bullpen Wednesday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (side) will throw a "light bullpen" session at camp on Wednesday. It's the first time that Eovaldi will get back on a mound in spring training since he experienced left-side tightness in camp last week. The 33-year-old right-hander still has some time to build his arm back up in time for Opening Day, but any further setbacks would be costly. Eovaldi is joining the Rangers in 2023 after going 6-3 with a 3.87 ERA (4.30 FIP), 1.23 WHIP and 22.4 percent strikeout rate in 109 1/3 innings over only 20 starts. Injuries in Beantown cost Eovaldi some time, velocity and K's for fantasy managers. Home runs were also an issue. Like the Rangers' ace Jacob deGrom, durability makes Eovaldi more of a risk.

Wed Mar 1 202315:02Nathan Eovaldi Dealing With Left Side Tightness
Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young said that starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (side) is dealing with "left side tightness" and will not make his next scheduled Cactus League start. It's similar to the injury that Jacob deGrom came into camp with, and the Rangers will play it safe with Eovaldi in the coming week. As long as Eovaldi doesn't have any further setbacks once he starts to throw again, he will have time to get stretched out for Opening Day. The 33-year-old right-hander was limited to only 20 starts in 2022 with the Boston Red Sox due to back and shoulder injuries, so it's not a good sign that he's already hurt again in camp. A drop in strikeout rate and problems with the long ball also hurt him. Eovaldi's K rate could jump back up if he stays healthy, but durability has been an issue for him in the past.

Tue Dec 27 202221:34Rangers Land Nathan Eovaldi On Two-Year Deal
The Texas Rangers signed right-hander Nathan Eovaldi to a two-year, $34 million deal on Tuesday. The 32-year-old can earn up to $63 million in three years if every condition is met. This is another effort by the Rangers to bolster their rotation, which now stands as one of the deepest and most talented in the major leagues. Eovaldi is entering his 12th year in the pros and is certainly a key addition to the Texas organization. He spent the last five years in Boston and posted a 3.87 ERA across 109 1/3 innings in 2022. He missed out on some quality starts due to a couple of injury setbacks, but he is projected to serve as a front-line starter in Texas if he can stay healthy.

Mon Dec 26 202213:43Angels Express Interest in Nathan Eovaldi
The Los Angeles Angels have made several upgrades this offseason and continue to take action. The rotation is their next target, and free-agent right-hander Nathan Eovaldi is a figure of interest. Eovaldi has spent the last five seasons in Boston and served as a critical component of the Red Sox rotation. The 32-year-old commenced just 20 starts in 2022 and spent considerable time on the injured list. He finished with a 3.87 ERA, 103 punchouts, and a 4.30 FIP. Although just a year prior, Eovaldi was a candidate for the AL Cy Young after posting a league-low 2.79 FIP. Barring any health issues, the Houston native will serve as a front-line starter for Phil Nevin's club if a deal can be reached.

Wed Dec 21 202200:17"Pretty Good Confidence" Nathan Eovaldi Returns To Red Sox
MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi reported Tuesday that there is "pretty good confidence on the part of a lot of people in baseball" that free-agent starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi will ultimately re-sign with the Boston Red Sox. Per Morosi, the relative lull in the market for Eovaldi is due to the fact that he is tied to draft compensation after turning down a qualifying offer from the Red Sox. However, the Red Sox would not have to forfeit any draft capital to sign him because they were the team that made the qualifying offer. The 32-year-old had a decent 2022 season, going 6-3 with a 3.87 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 22.4% strikeout rate over 20 starts and 109 1/3 innings pitched. Injuries have been an issue for Eovaldi, but his consistency should make him a useful back-of-the-rotation starter for fantasy, regardless of where he lands, assuming he can stay relatively healthy.
