Nash will remain on the Lakers' roster for the 2014-15 season after the deadline to use the stretch provision passed this weekend, the InsideSoCal.com reports.
In likely the last season of his career, Nash will play out his contract this season. The Lakers had the option of using the stretch provision and paying the remaining $9.7 million of his contract over the next three seasons, but elected to keep him on the roster for this season, paying the full amount against the cap now. He has rarely been healthy since crossing to the Lakers in a trade with the Phoenix Suns, playing in only 65 games over the past two seasons. Nash was a shell of himself, playing in the lowest minutes and scoring the fewest points per game since his rookie season, all the way back in 1996-97. He'll back up new acquisition Jeremy Lin and will likely be off the radar for all 10 or 12 team fantasy leagues.

Nash is currently "100 percent healthy" and is not experiencing any nerve pain, Mike Trudell of Lakers.com reports.
Nash is apparently pain free for the first time in a long while, but at his advanced age he's yet to prove his durability over an 82-game season. Nash appeared in 50 games in 2012-13 and only 15 last season. When healthy, he's still one of the most consistent sources of assists, but at 40 years old he's a major risk.
Mon Jul 28 201414:55Steve Nash: 'I think this is my last season'
Steve Nash confirmed in a recent interview that he will retire after the 2014-15 season.
"I think this is my last season," said the 40-year-old Nash. "But I still love to play, practice and work on my game. I'm going to spend hopefully many many years living this life without basketball. It'll be nice to play one more year." Nash, in his prime, was one of the most exciting point guards to watch. He won back-to-back MVP awards from 2004-2006, taking his Phoenix Suns team through multiple deep playoff runs, but never ending on the ultimate goal of an NBA championship. However, he just doesn't have it anymore at 40 years of age, and he only managed to make it through 15 games last season. While no longer a fantasy option, he figures to be a first ballot Hall of Famer, and the league will miss his constant professionalism.

Sun Jul 27 201413:13LAL unlikely to use stretch provision on Nash
The Lakers are not likely to use the stretch provision on Steve Nash.
If the Lakers had signed Carmelo Anthony and Pau Gasol, they would have needed to waive Nash via the stretch provision to make room under the salary cap. However, with the Lakers swinging-and-missing on the big name free agents this offseason, it looks as though Nash will play out the final year of his contract worth $9.7 million wearing the purple and gold.

Mon Jun 23 201414:29Steve Nash says he 'feels great right now'
Steve Nash discussed his health in an interview on Monday, stating: "I feel great right now."
"I've been able to be pretty much go without limitations as far as my training," Nash said. "I'm obviously not trying to overdo it so I can allow that nerve to settle down perhaps and be less irritating. It has worked so far, but I would hate to say this is where it will be like once I join the rigors of an NBA schedule." Nash was only able to suit up for 15 games last season, and at 40-years-old, the former repeat MVP is no longer a fantasy option.

Fri May 30 201410:43Steve Nash focusing on recovery, not coach
Steve Nash said he's not getting involved in the process of the Lakers hiring a new head coach.
"To be honest, I've tried to get away and clear my mind, and hopefully clearing my mind will help my body," Nash said. "So I'm kind of just sitting back and not getting involved in the process -- even emotionally -- and just waiting to see what they decide." The 40-year-old guard aged horribly last season and he'll likely miss a huge portion of the last year of his deal in 2014-15.

Fri May 16 201412:04Report: Lakers plan to keep Steve Nash
The Lakers reportedly plan to keep Steve Nash on their roster next season, rather than using the 'stretch provision' to waive his $9.8 million salary.
Nash is 40 years old and he only appeared in 15 games last season due to nerve injuries which plagued his back and hamstrings. When he was healthy enough to play, he averaged only 6.8 points on 38.3 percent shooting, but L.A. seems willing to squeeze whatever production they can get out of him in 2014-15.

Wed Apr 23 201409:53Steve Nash admits Lakers can't rely on him
Steve Nash is confident that he'll remain with the Lakers next season, but due to his health concerns he admitted that the team "can't rely on [him]."
The Lakers could waive Nash via the stretch provision, thus reducing the cap impact of his $9.7 million final year, but the 40 year old sounds certain that he'll still be in L.A. He said that he's 3-4 weeks away from being healthy and wants to contribute in any way possible next season, even if he doesn't play and only serves as a mentor to young Lakers' players.

Thu Apr 17 201415:21Nash says he's 3-4 weeks from being healthy
Steve Nash (leg, back) said he's 3-4 weeks from being healthy.
In his exit interview, he said this season was a "nightmare" and added the Lakers shouldn't be relying on him for next season because he doesn't know what he can bring. Nash did say he'll be back for next season, so the team will have to pay him whether he's healthy or not. He'll be one of the more talked about players in the offseason.

Wed Apr 16 201412:56Steve Nash, Chris Kaman both out Wednesday
Steve Nash (hamstring) and Chris Kaman (calf) will not return for the Lakers' final game on Wednesday.
The 40-year-old Nash was never expected to return after taking over the third spot on the NBA's all-time assist leaderboard, and it's uncertain whether he'll retire this summer or attempt a return in 2014-15. Even if he does attempt to return, fantasy owners should be very leery of him on draft day.

Mon Apr 14 201419:47Steve Nash and Chris Kaman out on Monday
Steve Nash (hamstring) and Chris Kaman (calf) will not play against the Jazz on Monday.
Nash is also likely to sit out for the rest of the season, according to coach Mike D'Antoni. He turned 40 this season and it showed as he was unable to finish just about every game he played. Kendall Marshall will start while Jordan Farmar will get plenty of chances to score and hit triples.

Wed Apr 9 201410:20Steve Nash (hamstring) likely done for season
Steve Nash (hamstrings) confirmed that he's unlikely to play again this season.
"Because I had a pretty good setback [on Tuesday], I probably won't play again," Nash said. "If I get a good recovery over the next week, I'd love to play again. A big goal for me was not to go into the summer injured." He took over the NBA's third-highest career assists total during Tuesday's game, which may have been the only reason he played, and we're not expecting to see him again this year. His vaunted career may also be at its end if the Lakers decide to amnesty his contract this summer.

Wed Apr 9 201401:38Steve Nash passes Mark Jax for No. 3 assists
Steve Nash had three points, three rebounds, five assists and a 3-pointer in 13 minutes, passing Mark Jackson for No. 3 on the all-time NBA assists list on Tuesday.
Nash was playing specifically to get the record and you have to think his season is officially over now that Jackson is in his rearview mirror. In fact, it sounds like his career is over if you believe what Mike D'Antoni said after the game. "Too bad everything comes to an end, but he's had a great career," he said. Nash added that he felt a "bite" in his hamstring, meaning his season, and possibly career, has come to an end.

Mon Apr 7 201417:15Steve Nash is planning to play on Tuesday
Steve Nash (back, leg) is planning to play against the Rockets on Tuesday.
Technically, he is questionable to play for the 10:30 EDT night game, but it sounds like he'll give it a go. Nash hasn't really been able to make it through a game healthy and the Lakers will likely keep his minutes in check. Jordan Farmar will also be back, which means Kendall Marshall obviously won't be playing 43 minutes again like he did on Sunday.

Sat Apr 5 201415:12Steve Nash (nerves) ruled out vs. Clippers
Steve Nash (nerve irritation) will not play on Sunday.
He played 19 minutes on Friday and is reportedly aiming to play again next week, but it's more of a feel-good story than a meaningful contribution for fantasy owners.

Fri Apr 4 201414:05Steve Nash will play for Lakers Friday
Steve Nash will play in Friday's game against the Mavs.
Nash will likely come off the bench behind Kendall Marshall. We'd expect 15-20 minutes and then a few days of rest to recover.

Wed Apr 2 201402:03Steve Nash won't play on Wednesday night
Steve Nash will not play against the Kings on Wednesday night.
He suffered an ankle injury in the first half, but he added it is not related to his nerve issue. Kendall Marshall should get minutes in the high 20s again and coach Mike D'Antoni will likely tweak his rotation to help strengthen his second unit. Nash has very little fantasy appeal.

Wed Apr 2 201401:02Steve Nash suffers ankle sprain, returns
Steve Nash suffered an ankle sprain in the first half against the Blazers on Tuesday and was able to return, finishing with 10 points, four boards, 10 assists, one block and one turnover in 22 minutes.
He's really struggled in staying healthy during games, but at least this time it wasn't his nerve irritation. Nash was effective tonight, but his inability to exit a game in good health eliminates him from fantasy consideration.
