MIAMI (AP) — Washington still doesn't know when John Wall will play again. The Wizards simply know that the All-Star is getting closer.Wall worked out on the floor in Miami about a half-hour before the Wizards visited the Heat on Saturday night. He's done some courtwork in the past as part of his ongoing recovery from knee surgery, and this session was a continuation of the process."This Wednesday will be six weeks and we said six to eight weeks," Wizards coach Scott Brooks said. "It won't be six weeks."Wall took some jumpers and free throws, plus some layup drills that required him jumping off of both feet. Officially, he is still out indefinitely, though the Wizards seem convinced he will be back before the end of the regular season.Wall had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Jan. 31, plus had surgeries on both knees after last season. The Wizards were 26-22 when Wall left the lineup; entering Saturday, they were 12-6 since he got hurt and have stayed very much in the mix for a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.Tomas Satoransky has been starting since, and Brooks said several players should be credited with adjusting their games with this no-Wall lineup."We had to change a little bit how we play," Brooks said. "He's such a dynamic player, he can score, he can help us score in transition as fast as anybody in the league. We couldn't expect Tomas to all of a sudden be that speedster up and down the court."

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis was ruled out of Friday night's game against Washington because of his sprained left ankle.Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry says he is "optimistic" about Davis' prospects for returning Sunday afternoon against Utah. Nikola Mirotic started at power forward in Davis' absence.Gentry says Davis went through pregame drills to test his ankle and did not appear ready to return from the injury, which occurred in the third quarter of Wednesday night's victory at Sacramento.Davis has averaged 28.1 points and 11.1 rebounds this season, and his production has surged during the franchise record-tying 10-game winning streak the Pelicans rode into their game against the Wizards. Davis has scored 41 or more points five times and as many as 53 during the streak.___More NBA basketball: https://apnews.com/tag/NBAbasketball

MIAMI (AP) — The NBA said three plays were officiated incorrectly in overtime of Tuesday's Miami-Washington game, all aiding the Wizards in what became their four-point victory. The National Basketball Referees Association, however, disagreed with the league's assessment in one of those situations. The league said a 5-second inbounding violation should have been called against Washington with 12.2 seconds left in overtime, after determining that Markieff Morris did not release the basketball in time. Replays showed Morris held the ball for more than five seconds, which meant Miami should have gotten possession in what was then a one-point game. But the NBRA said the officiating crew was right."We are taught to count to 5 and make sure the ball has not been released before calling a violation," the NBRA wrote on Twitter . "The official in this game got to 5 and the ball was released. It was the correct decision."The NBA disagreed, calling it an incorrect non-call."Morris (did) not release the... [More]
