The Miami Heat traded guard Mario Chalmers and forward James Ennis to the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday in exchange for guard Beno Udrih, forward Jarnell Stokes and a second-round pick, Yahoo Sports reported.The deal, which would save the Heat $6 million in luxury tax payments, is pending NBA approval, according to the report.Chalmers is in the final year of his contract and not part of the Heat's future plans. The Grizzlies hope the 29-year-old veteran can serve as a capable backup to point guard Mike Conley.In his eighth NBA season, Chalmers has career averages of 8.8 points and 3.8 assists per game. As a rookie last season, he saw action in 19 games and averaged 3.0 points and 1.8 rebounds.The 25-year-old Ennis has one assist in three games this season. He made his NBA debut as a rookie last season and averaged 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in 62 games.

G Mario Chalmers (right knee) did not play Thursday night. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Chalmers' knee is "already feeling better than it was (Wednesday)."

G Mario Chalmers, who played all eight of his NBA seasons with Miami, had his name circulate in trade rumors linking him to a potential deal with the Memphis Grizzlies. Chalmers declined to comment pregame on Tuesday, but coach Erik Spoelstra said, "It's an endless amount of rumors all season long for every team. We address it very early in the season and just talk about what the NBA is like, what you can expect, how to deal with the storylines and how to continue to be a professional."

Chalmers "plans to sit out for a bit" to give his sore knee some rest, Ethan Skolnick of the Miami Herald reports.

Chalmers has played in several preseason games thus far, but with his knee still an issue, he will take some time off in an effort to get back to 100 percent for the regular season. He will work as the Heat's backup point guard if healthy.

Chalmers (knee) played 15 minutes in Wednesday's preseason loss to the Magic. He missed both of his field-goal attempts and knocked down only one of his four free-throw attempts.

Chalmers was dealing with a minor knee injury late last week, but he's been able to participate in both of the Heat's preseason contests. The eighth-year guard has averaged 29 minutes per game in each of the last two seasons, but with Goran Dragic re-signed to a long-term contract after coming over to Miami last February at the trade deadline, Chalmers is expected to settle for a full-time backup role in 2015-16.

Chalmers (knee) sat out the contact portion of Thursday's practice.

Chalmers is still working his way back from an offseason procedure on his right knee, which had bothered him at various points last season. He's still projected to resume practicing fully soon, in anticipation of filling a reserve role behind Goran Dragic this season.

Chalmers (knee) won't spend much time at shooting guard this season like he did last year, Jason Lieser of The Palm Beach Post reports.

According to coach Erik Spoelstra, Chalmers' main role on the team this coming season will be to back up starting point guard Goran Dragic. This will certainly limit his time on the court as Spoelstra looks to incoming rookie Justise Winslow and veteran Gerald Green to occupy the majority of reserve minutes behind Dwyane Wade.

Chalmers (knee) admitted that he was bothered by his right knee throughout the 2014-15 season, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Chalmers recently underwent surgery on the knee to repair an inflamed Plica, which he said had affected him since near the start of the season. "It was giving me a little issues throughout the whole year," Chalmers said. "It's been something that's going on for a while, but I was able to play through it. I feel like right now is the perfect time for me to go in and get and get it cleaned out especially going into a contract year, and a big year for us as the Heat." At present, Chalmers remains limited in terms of what he can do, but he said he's expecting to progress to on-court work at the beginning of the July. "I've still got quite a ways from being full back," he said. "I'm working on bending my knee and getting my range of motion back." The 29-year-old appeared in 80 games last season, spending time both as a starter and a reserve. Chalmers ended the season playing behind Goran Dragic, which is likely to be the case to begin 2015-16, which is the final season of the two-year deal he signed last summer.

Chalmers was forced to come off the bench for a majority of the second half of the season after the Heat traded for Goran Dragic at the February trade deadline. Chalmers averaged 10.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.9 three-pointers, and 30 minutes per game in 80 games during the 2014-15 season.

Although Chalmers had a career high in points per game during the 2014-15 season, his rebounds, assists, steals, and three-pointers per game were down from 2013-14, making his fantasy production a bit of a disappointment this year. Chalmers took a backseat to Goran Dragic and Dwayne Wade, calling for a bench role during the latter half of the season. Chalmers began his offseason with a minor knee surgery, but he should be fully recovered by the start of training camp so it is nothing to worry about heading into next season. If Dragic returns to the Heat for the 2015-16 season, Wade stays healthy, and Miami's young guards continue to emerge, there could be a decline in fantasy value for Chalmers to the point of not being relevant in most standard leagues. As Chalmers enters the last year of his contract with the Heat, it appears he will be coming off the bench and must perform well to earn minutes and possibly work his way back into the starting lineup if Dragic signs elsewhere.

Chalmers underwent an arthroscopic procedure to repair an inflamed Plica in his right knee Friday.

The minor surgery took only 20 minutes, and Chalmers is expected to begin rehabbing the knee immediately. The team issued a statement saying Chalmers will be ready for training camp, so it doesn't look to be anything that will carry over into 2015-16.

Chalmers (illness) recorded two points (1-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt), four rebounds, and two assists during 25 minutes of work against the Bulls on Thursday.

Chalmers was dealing with an illness ahead of Thursday's game but managed to assume his normal role off the bench against the Bulls despite the fear that he wouldn't be playing at all. As a result, Chalmers is expected to be available for the final few games of the season.

Chalmers was contained to nine minutes of court time Tuesday as a result of an illness. He's feeling well enough to play, though, meaning he should log the 26 minutes per game that he logged in the five contests prior to Tuesday's abbreviated outing.

Chalmers (illness) is questionable for Thursday's game agains the Bulls, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Miami's nightmarish spree of injuries continues, as Chalmers could miss Wednesday's game after an illness limited him to only nine minutes Tuesday against Charlotte. If he's unable to go, Goran Dragic will likely pick up a few extra minutes, as could Tyler Johnson off the bench.
