Ennis (hip) missed his fifth consecutive game Wednesday against the Blazers.

Ennis' hip injury has coincided with the arrival of Michael Beasley and Henry Walker on the scene, meaning playing time may not exist when Ennis is healthy enough to play. However, after missing practice Tuesday, Ennis must make his presence felt in drills before his first game action is possible.

Ennis' status for Wednesday's game is unclear at this time, but he has not played in any of the Heat's last four games. With the emergences of Henry Walker and Michael Beasley, Ennis is unlikely to play a major role down the stretch.

It's possible Ennis benefits from the departure of Danny Granger, since their might be more wing minutes available now. Even if that is the case, however, it is hard to trust Ennis on any given night.

Ennis missed Monday's game due to a knee bruise, but it's an illness that will hold him out of Wednesday's matchup. He didn't make the trip to Cleveland with the team but will presumably be fine after the lengthy All-Star break. Miami will also be without Dwyane Wade and Shawne Williams on Wednesday, so Danny Granger and Tyler Johnson should see bumps in minutes off the bench.

Ennis did not play Monday because he had a sore knee from a fall Friday against the Spurs, Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press reports.

It was expected that Ennis would see an increase in minutes with Dwyane Wade (hamstring) out at least until the All-Star break, and Ennis has played 20-plus minutes in three of the Heat's last five games. It would likely take an injury on the wing to open up consistent minutes for Ennis, but he appears to be part of Miami's plan for the future, making him an interesting player to have on watch lists.

Ennis will see increased minutes in the absence of Dwyane Wade (hamstring), according to coach Erik Spoelstra, Joseph Goodman of the Miami Herald reports.

Wade is without a timetable to return and is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks. With Luol Deng (calf) also injured, Spoelstra said Ennis will help fill the void. The Long Beach State product has seen inconsistent minutes this season but played 19 minutes in Tuesday's loss to Milwaukee. He's averaging just 3.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game on the season.

Ennis was a DNP-Coach's decision Tuesday against Oklahoma City.

Ennis has played in four of Miami's last five games, but has only scored seven total points in that span. Barring a rash of injuries to players ahead of him on the depth chart, Ennis carries extremely limited value in all formats.

Ennis played 35 minutes against the Nets, scoring 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-2 FT), to go along with eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Ennis was one of three rookies that Coach Spoelstra used to create a spark for the Heat offensively. Ennis came through big grabbing eight rebounds on a team that is constantly out-rebounded and undersized. He was second only to Bosh in terms of rebounding, and if Coach Spoelstra can find more instances to insert him into the lineup, Ennis could become a great stash in deep leagues. That being said, it might not be Miami's plan to keep sitting out teammates Wade (hamstring), Deng (wrist), and McRoberts (toe) for too much longer, which will have a huge impact on Ennis' minutes moving forward.

Coach Erik Spoelstra decided to give the start to Mario Chalmers even though Ennis made the start in place of Wade on Friday. Ennis only ended up playing six minutes Friday, and it would be hard to imagine that he would play more minutes off the bench Sunday than as a starter Friday.

Ennis started for the injured Dwayne Wade (hamstring). It was expected that Ennis would play significant minutes in the game, but instead the Heat played most of the game in dual point guard lineups - starter Norris Cole, Mario Chalmers, and Shabazz Napier combined for a total of 89 minutes. Chalmers was playing particularly effectively, which probably accounted for some of his extra time, while Cole's and Napier's workloads were in line with their season averages. But for Ennis to start and still see such little action, it must have been the plan all along. Ennis holds promising potential for dynasty leagues. Outside of dynasty leagues, however, it is hard to justify owning someone averaging fewer than 10 minutes per game even when he starts.

Ennis will start at shooting guard Friday against the Hawks, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Ennis will make his first career start Friday, as Dwyane Wade will not be playing. In eight games, he's averaged 10 minutes, while scoring 2.8 points and grabbing 1.6 rebounds per game. Despite the low scoring output, he's showed some promise, and the rookie will get his chance to show what he can do in extended time Friday.

Ennis played only 6 minutes against the Hornets on Wednesday, only contributing 2 rebounds and 1 assist.

After what seemed like a breath of fresh air for Miami in his debut against the Wizards, Ennis has quietly sunk back into the lineup. Miami is struggling at the point guard position at the moment, so Ennis's playing time should take a backseat as they try and find a more productive guard lineup in the weeks to come.

This could potentially be a huge opportunity for James Ennis. With Danny Granger's timetable still relatively unknown, Ennis could become the second option at small forward after teammate Luol Deng. Considering that the Heat's guard play has sped up their offensive pace, this could facilitate more offensive production from Ennis moving forward.

Ennis scored 5 points on 2-of-4 shooting in 14 minutes in the Heat's season opener against the Wizards.

The Heat addressed currently have a log jam at small forward which ultimately limits Ennis' opportunities. This leaves Ennis as the fourth option on most nights.

Ennis led the Heat with 17 points (4-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 8-10 FT) and six rebounds in 23 minutes during Saturday's preseason opener against the Pelicans.

Ennis is competing with veteran Danny Granger for minutes at small forward off the Heat's bench and impressed in his first game opportunity Saturday night. In addition to being aggressive going to the basket, Ennis was efficient from the field and tied for a team-high six rebounds.

Ennis was star at Orlando summer league with a 29-point game and he's looking like a strong bet to make the rotation. The Heat have some issues with depth, so he could be the first wing off the bench. He'll be worth watching for those who love picking up rookies.

He has 3-point range and solid defensive skills, but it would take a series of unlikely events for him to emerge as a fantasy option.
