Fri Apr 14 202307:54Jakob Poeltl Seems Uncertain About Returning To Toronto
Toronto Raptors center Jakob Poeltl told reporters that he doesn't know what's going to happen this summer as he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The 27-year-old never signed an extension after the trade from San Antonio and there are a lot of teams that could use a solid starting center, just like the Raptors needed for many seasons. Poeltl averaged 12.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game across his time with San Antonio and Toronto.

Thu Apr 6 202310:48Time To Hang It Up: Five NBA Players That Should Retire After The Season
Basketball is a fast-paced game. While the court's dimensions are smaller than baseball and football fields, there is no room to relax because players must exert effort on offense and defense. NBA's Advanced Stats reveal that LaMelo Ball trumps other ballers in the distance covered, averaging 2.77 miles per game. Fred VanVleet is not far behind at 2.76.Therefore, basketball players must be in good condition to render significant minutes. Conversely, injuries are also a dime a dozen because of the extensive regular season. Failing to stay in shape could mean reduced playing time or an abrupt end to their career. But at some point, Father Time wins, no matter how much a player wants to delay the inevitable. These players have rendered extensive NBA careers but are far from the peak of their capabilities. Sadly, retirement after the 2022-23 season is a strong possibility because they are not steady contributors anymore or hardly step into the court. However, their younger teammates should pick their brains and learn from their limitless wisdom.

Thaddeus Young

Young won the NBA Hustle Award during the 2020-21 season thanks to his accumulated hustle stats like taking screens and diving for loose balls. But that recognition is a nice consolation for a man who nearly averaged a double-double (15.1 points, nine rebounds) for the 2015-16 season with the Brooklyn Nets.https://twitter.com/ClutchPointsApp/status/1612227070108516355The 16-year veteran has been touted as a do-it-all player on both ends. Unfortunately, his production has significantly dropped in his second season with the Toronto Raptors. He is averaging only 4.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game through March 11. He hasn't played since, even if he is on the active roster, because of ... [More]

Fri Mar 3 202311:50Jakob Poeltl Posts Strong Performance In Losing Effort
Toronto Raptors center Jakob Poeltl continues to post big games and give the Toronto fans everything they've wanted in a center. Now, they just need the wins to follow suit. The 27-year-old posted 23 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks while shooting 8-for-9 from the floor and 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Poeltl has seen a fantasy value increase despite moving to a better team with players that require higher usage. He's been a do-it-all type of center for Toronto so far as he's averaging 15.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game.

Fri Feb 24 202311:16Jakob Poeltl Collects Double-Double In Win Over Pelicans
Toronto Raptors center Jakob Poeltl was just two rebounds shy of a 20-20 game as they grabbed a five-point win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday. The 27-year-old registered 21 points, 18 rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one block on 9-for-11 shooting. In the three games that he's entered the starting lineup for Toronto, Poeltl has averaged 19.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.0 steals, and 3.3 blocks per game on a crazy 81.8% shooting. Even though he was traded to a better team, the Raptors have desperately needed a solid center and his usage is proof of that.

Wed Feb 15 202311:09Jakob Poeltl Leads Raptors Past Magic
Toronto Raptors new center Jakob Poeltl had a game-high 30 points in Tuesday night's 123-113 win over the Orlando Magic. He also added nine rebounds, two assists and six blocks and shot an incredibly efficient 15-for-17 from the field. This was Poeltl's first workload of 30-plus minutes with his new team, and he did a good job proving why he deserves that kind of workload. With all the attention on Poeltl, Precious Achiuwa's value is being overlooked. Achiuwa recorded his second double-double in a row, logging 11 points and 13 rebounds. Achiuwa is only rostered in 13.7 percent of ESPN leagues, and he should be considered a viable streaming option in deeper leagues.

Fri Feb 10 202316:05Jakob Poeltl Expected To Make His Toronto Debut On Friday
Toronto Raptors center Jakob Poeltl is expected to make his debut with his new-ish team as long as they get the league approval for him to do so. The 27-year-old said he's ready to go and with the Raptors still fighting to make the playoffs, they have every reason to try to get him on the floor as soon as possible. Right now, it still remains to be seen if Poeltl will be a starter or if Nick Nurse will continue to go with Pascal Siakam at the five. Either way, Poeltl should get plenty of opportunities as the main center on the team.

Fri Feb 10 202313:152023 NBA Trade Deadline Breakdown - Fantasy Basketball Impacts
The NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone and we had one of the most active deadlines in recent memory with some big stars being dealt. Kyrie, KD, and Westbrook are all heading to new teams and we have been covering those trades and their fantasy impacts here at RotoBaller. But there were plenty of other lesser-known players who were dealt in the last few days and I wanted to go through and make sure we don't overlook some of these trades as some of those deals may even have more fantasy impact than the big moves. So here are some other trades that went down and my two cents on the increase or decrease in value that we should expect from the players involved for the remainder of the 2022-2023 fantasy basketball season.

Moves That Matter

These are very much in order of how much they matter. Let's start with the Spurs sending their starting center back up North where he started his career.Jakob Poeltl to the RaptorsI am a huge Poeltl fan and was close to acquiring him on multiple teams before the deadline. It was a curious move by Toronto to be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline, but Poeltl gives them the presence at the five they have been lacking all season and allows Siakam to shift over and play PF where he belongs.Poeltl is no longer a shutdown candidate and has legit top-50 upside with his multi-category abilities. His departure also makes ... [More]
Thu Feb 9 202308:19Jakob Poeltl Moved To The Raptors
According to ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Jakob Poeltl has been traded to the Toronto Raptors for Khem Birch, a protected 2024 first-round pick and two future second-round picks. This season, Poeltl was already averaging just 26.1 minutes per game, so he'll likely remain around the same usage in Toronto, at the very least. They've needed an actual center for some time now, and Poeltl fits that mold. So far this year, the 27-year-old averages 12.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.

Mon Jan 9 202318:07Jakob Poeltl Available On Monday
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (Achilles) is available for Monday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The big man returns after his one-game absence due to an Achilles issue. His return means Zach Collins heads to the bench, so he won't have much streaming appeal with the second unit. It doesn't sound like the team plans to limit Poeltl despite him dealing with an Achilles injury. He could see increased usage with Keldon Johnson (hamstring) sidelined on Monday.

Sat Jan 7 202317:26Jakob Poeltl Out On Saturday Evening
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (Achilles) won't play on Saturday night against the Celtics. The 27-year-old is battling left Achilles bursitis, so Zach Collins will replace him in the starting lineup. Collins has averaged 9.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in six appearances with the first five this season, so he'll draw some interest in deep fantasy setups and DFS contests. However, with Al Horford and Robert Williams III hanging underneath the basket, it may be tough for Collins to get anything going.

Thu Dec 22 202216:23Jakob Poeltl Is Available Against Pelicans On Thursday
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (knee) will be available to start for the team's Thursday night contest against the New Orleans Pelicans. The 27-year-old returned a couple of games ago from a knee injury and he's still been gracing the injury report in case he needs another rest day. He's been playing some limited minutes in those games and he'll likely be limited again as they take a cautious approach. Poeltl probably isn't the best play in DFS lineups, but can provide some lower-level stats in other fantasy formats.

Fri Dec 16 202220:39Jakob Poeltl Considered Probable For Saturday
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (knee) is on track to return to action Saturday, with the team listing him as probable for an encounter with the Heat. The Austrian big man has missed the last seven games with a right knee problem. Zach Collins and Charles Bassey have recently logged starts in Poeltl's absence, but their fantasy value is obviously set to take a big hit now. Poeltl is averaging a career-high 9.9 rebounds per game this season and his work has included 12.9 points, 3.5 assists and 1.0 blocks a night.

Fri Dec 9 202217:38Jakob Poeltl Out Again On Saturday
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (knee) remains out for Saturday's matchup versus Miami, his fifth consecutive absence because of a bone bruise in his right knee. Zach Collins has taken Poeltl's place in the lineup in the last four games, averaging 7.5 points and 5.8 rebounds. However, Collins has received only 23 minutes per game in that span while also shooting a miserable 8.3% from behind the arc, classifying him as a desperation add for fantasy managers outside of category formats.

Sun Dec 4 202200:49Jakob Poeltl Remains Out Versus Phoenix
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (knee) won't suit up against the Suns on Sunday because of a bone bruise in his right knee. The 27-year-old has been banged up recently and is now in line to miss his third consecutive contest. Fortunately, the Spurs won't play again until Thursday versus Houston, so there's a chance he could be back. In the meantime, Zach Collins, who had seven points, six rebounds, and three assists in the meeting with the Pelicans on Friday, should remain in the starting lineup. At the same time, Charles Bassey was more productive from off the bench in that one, falling one rebound shy of a double-double while adding two blocks and a steal. Considering Collins has no problem racking up fouls, Bassey may continue to be a better fantasy option.

Fri Dec 2 202217:09Jakob Poeltl, Jeremy Sochan Remain Out For Friday’s Game
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (knee) and power forward Jeremy Sochan (quad) have been ruled out for Friday's contest against New Orleans. Poeltl is battling a right knee bruise that will keep him out for the second straight game, while Sochan is down again with a right quad contusion. With Doug McDermott (ankle) also sidelined, Zach Collins, Charles Bassey and Isaiah Roby figure to see extensive frontcourt minutes and could factor into DFS lineups, albeit with some risk. Poeltl began the season on a hot stretch and is nearly averaging a double-double for the year (12.9 points, 9.9 boards). His and Sochan's next chance to suit up is Sunday vs. the Suns.

Wed Nov 30 202219:10Jakob Poeltl Dealing With Bone Bruise
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (knee) won't suit up for the team's game on Wednesday against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He suffered a bone bruise in their last game which will cause him to miss his second game of the season. The 27-year-old big man has been enjoying a solid season so far as one of the more consistent and reliable later-round fantasy draft picks. In his absence, Gorgui Dieng and Charles Bassey will likely see an uptick in minutes. Dieng would be the safer streaming option if needed.

Sat Nov 26 202222:21Jakob Poeltl Done For The Rest Of Saturday Night
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (quadriceps) won't return to Saturday's meeting with the Lakers after sustaining a right quad contusion. Jeremy Sochan was also ruled out because of the same injury, opening the door for Zach Collins to get involved. However, he was ejected for a flagrant 2 foul on Russell Westbrook. Nonetheless, if Poeltl can't play on Wednesday against OKC, Collins may see extra minutes. Yet, if he doesn't suit up either, Isaiah Roby may enter the starting lineup.

Wed Nov 23 202217:09Jakob Poeltl Available Wednesday
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (knee) is available for Wednesday's matchup against the Pelicans. He missed a big loss to the Lakers on Monday and was initially questionable for Wednesday's game. Poeltl has enjoyed fine form all around throughout the season, averaging nearly a double-double and getting 3.6 assists per game with 1.1 blocks and 0.9 steals. He faces a big battle with Jonas Valanciunas on Wednesday, which isn't a pleasant experience for any center in the world. With that said, Poeltl doesn't have off nights very often and it should still be safe to deploy him.

Sat Nov 19 202219:16Jakob Poeltl Questionable Versus Clippers
San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (knee) is carrying a questionable tag ahead of Saturday's action versus the Clippers. The Austrian double-double machine could be forced to sit out for the first time this season if he can't overcome right knee soreness prior to tip-off. Poeltl is averaging a solid 13.2 points and 9.9 rebounds for the campaign with 3.7 assists, 1.2 blocks and 0.9 steals, so he will be a big miss in more ways than one. Charles Bassey looks set to benefit the most if Poeltl can't go Saturday. The 22-year-old has done a good job as a reserve for the Spurs, averaging 6.1 points and 6.6 rebounds with 1.6 blocks in 16.3 minutes of action, and could really fill up the box score with more minutes.
