Thu Apr 6 202310:48Time To Hang It Up: Five NBA Players That Should Retire After The Season
Basketball is a fast-paced game. While the court's dimensions are smaller than baseball and football fields, there is no room to relax because players must exert effort on offense and defense. NBA's Advanced Stats reveal that LaMelo Ball trumps other ballers in the distance covered, averaging 2.77 miles per game. Fred VanVleet is not far behind at 2.76.Therefore, basketball players must be in good condition to render significant minutes. Conversely, injuries are also a dime a dozen because of the extensive regular season. Failing to stay in shape could mean reduced playing time or an abrupt end to their career. But at some point, Father Time wins, no matter how much a player wants to delay the inevitable. These players have rendered extensive NBA careers but are far from the peak of their capabilities. Sadly, retirement after the 2022-23 season is a strong possibility because they are not steady contributors anymore or hardly step into the court. However, their younger teammates should pick their brains and learn from their limitless wisdom.

Thaddeus Young

Young won the NBA Hustle Award during the 2020-21 season thanks to his accumulated hustle stats like taking screens and diving for loose balls. But that recognition is a nice consolation for a man who nearly averaged a double-double (15.1 points, nine rebounds) for the 2015-16 season with the Brooklyn Nets.https://twitter.com/ClutchPointsApp/status/1612227070108516355The 16-year veteran has been touted as a do-it-all player on both ends. Unfortunately, his production has significantly dropped in his second season with the Toronto Raptors. He is averaging only 4.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game through March 11. He hasn't played since, even if he is on the active roster, because of ... [More]
Sun Apr 2 202322:25Fred VanVleet Dishes Out 20 Assists
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet posted a new career-high for assists in a game while also collecting his first 20-20 game in a blowout win over the Charlotte Hornets. On Sunday, the undrafted guard posted 20 points, 20 assists, five rebounds, and three steals on 7-for-17 shooting and just 1-for-8 from three. What he lacked in scoring efficiency, VanVleet made up for with his playmaking and defensive stats. For those in points leagues, if they needed a big game on the last day of a playoff matchup, VanVleet was the savior kind of guy.

Fri Feb 24 202318:09Fred VanVleet Out Again On Saturday
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet will miss Saturday's matchup against the Detroit Pistons. He's away from the team for a personal matter, so he won't be available for the second consecutive game. As a result, head coach Nick Nurse will likely continue to give his starting lineup plenty of minutes. At the same time, Jeff Dowtin Jr., who had five points and three assists on Thursday versus the Pelicans, may also see more work from the bench.

Fri Feb 24 202314:20Fred VanVleet Away From Team, Uncertain For Saturday
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet remains away from the team for personal reasons, which causes his status for their weekend back-to-back to be questionable. He was unable to play in their last game on Thursday against the New Orleans Pelicans, so it wouldn't be too surprising if he missed at least one more game. Gary Trent Jr. took over the starting role on Thursday and he'd likely move back into that spot again over the weekend if VanVleet can't suit up.

Mon Feb 13 202307:52Fred VanVleet Drops 35 Points On Detroit
Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet enjoyed one of his best outings of the season on Sunday against the Pistons, leading his squad to a 119-118 victory with a game-high 35 points. He was a superb 6-for-13 with the three-ball and shot 12-for-26 overall, adding three rebounds and eight assists to his tally with one block and one turnover in 37 minutes. VanVleet has been pretty streaky all year, but he now boasts nine 30-point efforts for the campaign, which is the most he's had in a single season. The 28-year-old started has greatly improved his form in February, averaging 24.8 points with 5.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists.

Fri Feb 10 202313:152023 NBA Trade Deadline Breakdown - Fantasy Basketball Impacts
The NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone and we had one of the most active deadlines in recent memory with some big stars being dealt. Kyrie, KD, and Westbrook are all heading to new teams and we have been covering those trades and their fantasy impacts here at RotoBaller. But there were plenty of other lesser-known players who were dealt in the last few days and I wanted to go through and make sure we don't overlook some of these trades as some of those deals may even have more fantasy impact than the big moves. So here are some other trades that went down and my two cents on the increase or decrease in value that we should expect from the players involved for the remainder of the 2022-2023 fantasy basketball season.

Moves That Matter

These are very much in order of how much they matter. Let's start with the Spurs sending their starting center back up North where he started his career.Jakob Poeltl to the RaptorsI am a huge Poeltl fan and was close to acquiring him on multiple teams before the deadline. It was a curious move by Toronto to be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline, but Poeltl gives them the presence at the five they have been lacking all season and allows Siakam to shift over and play PF where he belongs.Poeltl is no longer a shutdown candidate and has legit top-50 upside with his multi-category abilities. His departure also makes ... [More]
Thu Feb 2 202308:12Fred VanVleet Has Triple-Double In Loss To Utah
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet has had a rough go of things this year with a lot of inconsistencies, but he turned in a big game against the Utah Jazz in a three-point loss. The 28-year-old finished with 34 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, one steal, and one block while shooting 12-for-25 from the floor and 4-for-9 from beyond the arc. This marked his first triple-double of the season which ties his total from last season. In points leagues, VanVleet is a top option, but he can be a shaky asset in category formats.

Sat Jan 28 202308:29Fred VanVleet Has A Double-Double Against Golden State
Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet found his way into the double-double column in Friday's matchup against the Warriors, finishing a 129-117 loss with a team-high 28 points and 10 assists. He had an impact all over the court, notching four rebounds, one steal and one block. VanVleet nailed five treys with 10 attempts and shot 11-for-20 overall with five turnovers in 40 minutes. The 2022 All-Star has had an inconsistent campaign, but that's now six strong performances on the bounce from VanVleet, which will be very pleasing for fantasy managers. Can he make it seven on Saturday against Portland? VanVleet settled for only 14 points on 41.7-percent shooting when these teams had their first meeting this season earlier in the month.

Sun Jan 22 202316:42Fred Vanvleet Will Play On Sunday
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet (rib) is available for Sunday's game against the New York Knicks. The 28-year-old was uncertain for this contest after sitting out on Saturday due to right rib soreness. It appears Vanvleet is feeling good enough to play, so fantasy managers should make sure they have him in their lineups. He'll likely be asked to help pick up the slack with OG Anunoby (ankle) ruled out. Also, Precious Achiuwa should play a bigger role, which makes him worth streaming for Sunday's slate.

Sun Jan 22 202313:40Fred VanVleet Could Miss Another Game
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet (ribs) is questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Knicks. He didn't suit up for Saturday's meeting with Boston, the first of the team's back-to-back, opening the door for Scottie Barnes to handle most of the ball handling duties. If VanVleet misses another one, Precious Achiuwa, who had a double-double versus the Celtics, could remain in the starting lineup, giving him some upside for managers in all fantasy formats.

Wed Jan 18 202312:07Fred VanVleet Scores Game-High 39 Points In Losing Effort
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet tried to will his team to a win but came up short as the Milwaukee Bucks walked away with a win on Tuesday night. The undrafted guard out of Wichita State finished with 39 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists while shooting 15-for-28 from the floor and 6-for-12 from beyond the arc. VanVleet's scoring figures are down this year as he's only been able to convert 38.4% of his shots and his assist numbers are already not on an elite guard level. His steals and threes will always make him valuable in category formats though.

Tue Jan 17 202307:31Fred VanVleet Breaks Out Of Slump With 33 Points
Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet delivered a big bounce-back performance on Monday against the Knicks, leading the team to a 123-121 overtime victory with 33 points. He had been limited to just three points in the previous game against Atlanta and VanVleet had gone for just 39 points in total in his last four games. It wasn't all about scoring either for him on Monday, as VanVleet added five rebounds, eight assists, two steals and two blocks to his line. He finished with 10-for-23 shooting from the field and had a 5-for-13 record from three-point land. Can the 2022 All-Star now go on a scoring tear? VanVleet gets a new game already on Tuesday against the Bucks. He has already played them once this month and almost posted a triple-double with 28 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in an overtime loss on Jan. 4.

Sun Jan 15 202322:54Fred VanVleet Uncertain To Suit Up On Monday
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet (back) has been tagged as questionable for the team's game on Monday against the New York Knicks. The 28-year-old is dealing with lower back soreness which seems like it could make him a game time decision. VanVleet has had a handful of bumps and bruises that have landed him on the injury report, but then he's played through most of them. If he can't suit up, Gary Trent Jr. and Malachi Flynn would likely see some added minutes.

Thu Jan 5 202312:28Fred VanVleet Barely Misses Triple-Double In Loss
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet bounced back in a big way as he came just two rebounds shy of a triple-double against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. The undrafted point guard out of Wichita State finished with 28 points, 12 assists, eight rebounds and three steals while shooting 8-for-23 from the floor and 4-for-14 from beyond the arc. This was a much-needed bounce-back game after he only went for nine points against the Indiana Pacers in the game before.

Mon Jan 2 202318:48Fred Vanvleet Returns On Monday
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet (back) is available for Monday's game against the Indiana Pacers. The 28-year-old was forced to miss two games due to a back issue, but is ready to go on Monday. Fellow guard Gary Trent Jr. will remain in the starting five alongside Vanvleet. That being said, Malachi Flynn will head to the bench and see his playing time take a significant hit. Fantasy managers can go ahead and get Vanvleet back in their lineups for Monday.

Fri Dec 30 202218:02Fred VanVleet, Precious Achiuwa Will Miss Friday’s Contest
Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet (back) and power forward/center Precious Achiuwa (ankle) have been ruled out for Friday's game against the Suns. VanVleet will miss his second consecutive outing, paving the way for Malachi Flynn to become a highly targeted DFS option due to his low price tag. Achiuwa has been sidelined since Nov. 9 due to a sprained right ankle, but he has recently been tagged as questionable, indicating that a return is likely not far off. Scottie Barnes and Pascal Siakam are also likely to see elevated passing opportunities among the starting five. VanVleet and Achiuwa's next opportunity to return comes Monday vs. Indiana.

Fri Dec 30 202217:07Fred VanVleet Picks Up Questionable Designation Friday
Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet (back) has been deemed questionable to play in Friday's game vs. the Suns due to a stiff lower back. The ailment kept VanVleet out of Thursday's contest, which allowed Malachi Flynn to see an elevated workload, even as he continued to come off the bench. VanVleet has played at least 37 minutes in 19 of his 28 appearances this year, which bodes well for his DFS value if he is ultimately cleared prior to tip-off; another absence would give Pascal Siakam, Scottie Barnes and Gary Trent Jr. more ballhandling opportunities.

Thu Dec 29 202215:20Fred VanVleet Questionable For Thursday
Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet (back) is questionable for Thursday's matchup against the Grizzlies. Lower back stiffness forced VanVleet to make an early exit against the Clippers on Tuesday and he could now miss his seventh game of the season. Gary Trent Jr. looks set to take over VanVleet's spot in the starting unit if he can't play on Thursday and Malachi Flynn will have an opportunity to log extended minutes. Flynn has only recently found his way back to the regular rotation and has played well, averaging 10.2 points across the last six games. However, his work in other areas has been lacking, and he's definitely a risky choice for fantasy managers.

Sat Dec 17 202208:02Fred VanVleet Stays Hot Against Brooklyn
Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet posted a second consecutive 39-point outing on Friday, shooting 14-for-24 from the field and 4-for-9 from downtown in a 119-116 loss against Brooklyn. VanVleet had a very busy night, logging 43 minutes, and that helped him to fill the box score with five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. The 28-year-old has exploded for a pair of big games after managing just two 30-point efforts in the previous 21 games this season. His 39-point nights have coincided with OG Anunoby's (hip) absence. He has been ruled out for at least a week and should miss at least two more games.
