Crabbe was hot on Thursday, scoring 25 points (9-12 FG, 5-6 FT) and contributing four assists and two steals across 25 minutes in a 118-101 win over the Warriors.

With the losses of Nicholas Batum and LaMarcus Aldridge, the Trailblazers will need someone to step up and Crabbe is a formidable candidate. The most impressive stat of tonight's performance is that he posted an absurd +42 in the plus-minus category. There's not much depth at the shooting guard or small forward positions and that alone should garner Crabbe plenty of opportunities this season. He'll have to compete with Al-Farouq Aminu, Gerald Henderson, Maurice Harkless, and C.J. McCollum for minutes this season.

Crabbe received the start at small forward in Monday's preseason opener against the Kings and finished with 12 points (5-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and two boards in 23 minutes of action.

Al-Farouq Aminu is the favorite to start at the position when the regular season starts, but with coach Terry Stotts resting him Monday, opportunity knocked for Crabbe and Mo Harkless to showcase their skills. Both Crabbe and Harkless saw similar minutes loads and finished with double-digit scoring, making it difficult for either to separate himself from the other. Check back and see how the minutes are dispersed once Aminu makes his preseason debut, but Crabbe and Harkless both figure to see fairly uneven playing time off the bench this season.

Crabbe received clearance for full basketball activities in early September, Joe Freeman of The Oregonian reports.

Crabbe's Summer League was cut short to a severe left ankle sprain, which was eventually accompanied by a 4-to-6 week recovery timetable. He expects to be "100 percent" at the outset of training camp Tuesday, at which point he'll attempt to work his way into the wing rotation. At the very least, he seems to be blocked by Gerald Henderson (hip), CJ McCollum, and Al-Farouq Aminu, but Crabbe's experience in coach Terry Stotts' system should serve him well. While he's only played in 66 games across two professional seasons, Crabbe has shown some prowess as a three-point shooter, knocking down 41 percent of his corner threes (18-of-39) and 36 percent (36-for-99) overall.

The Trail Blazers had until August 1st to release Crabbe before his contract became guaranteed, but he excelled in summer league, giving the team a reason to bring him to training camp for less than a million dollars. Before spraining his left ankle in Las Vegas, Crabbe averaged 15.5 points and shot 53 percent from the field and 44 percent from downtown. He's been a sparse role player in his first two seasons, playing less than 13 minutes per game in 51 games last year. The Blazer's revamped roster offers substantial playing time for Crabbe if he can carve out a spot in coach Terry Stott's rotation.

Crabbe will sit out anywhere from four-to-six weeks after suffering a severe ankle sprain during Wednesday's NBA Summer League game, the Columbian reports.

Crabbe received an MRI on his ankle Thursday, which confirmed it was just a sprain and not a fracture. The injury was severe enough though, that it will keep Crabbe out for at least the next month. He was playing quite well during the summer league so far, participating in four games, while finishing with averages of 15.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 1.5 steals over 24 minutes per game. Once healthy, Crabbe should go back to making his case for minutes behind the likes of Gerald Henderson and C.J. McCollum at shooting guard.

Though he was an after though the past two seasons, Crabbe is entering the final year of his rookie contract with less than 800 minutes of NBA experience. He's showing off his improved game during the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging a team-high 19.5 points while shooting 56 percent from the field and 50 percent from downtown in two games. With the Trail Blazers' situation in flux, Crabbe has a chance to expand his role and potentially return standard league value. Heading into training camp, he'll be competing with Al-Farouq Aminu, Gerald Henderson, and Maurice Harkless for rotation minutes.

Crabbe's ability to contribute across the board makes him an intriguing prospect, but the 23-year-old remains behind Batum and CJ McCollum in Portland's wing rotation, meaning his minutes load in the upcoming campaign will be dependent upon Wesley Matthews' (Achilles) decision as an unrestricted free agent this summer.

However, the duo combined for nine points (4-15 FG, 1-5 3Pt), five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 52 minutes, which doesn't approach replacement level production. Expect Crabbe's role to be reduced Saturday, if Afflalo makes his expected return to the lineup.

Afflalo and Wright are almost certain to miss Sunday's playoff opener in Memphis, but the statuses of Batum and McCollum will have the greatest impact on Crabbe's potential production.

The Blazers placed Batum in their initial starting lineup, but after the Frenchman's back tightened up in pregame warmups, coach Terry Stotts turned to Crabbe rather than veteran Dorell Wright for the nod. Crabbe responded with two corner treys and adequate defense, pushing the Blazers to 8-0 when he starts. In those games, he's averaged 4.1 points (on 35 percent shooting), 2.4 rebounds, one assist, and 0.9 three-pointers in 21 minutes. If Batum is held out again Friday at Phoenix, Crabbe could garner yet another start.

Crabbe will get the start at small forward Wednesday against the Jazz.

Crabbe previously surpassed the 20-minute mark on Dec. 23, as his services haven't been required, even after Wesley Matthews' (Achilles) season-ending injury. While Crabbe's defense and three-point shooting could be valuable at some point in the future, his lengthy appearance was circumstantial due to absences to LaMarcus Aldridge (finger) and Nicolas Batum (back).

Crabbe got on the floor for six minutes Tuesday, but his lone contribution was a single rebound.

Those numbers would be useful if Crabbe were earning more minutes, but given that the Trail Blazers are actually using their bench this season, it seems more likely that Crabbe will continue to play limited minutes in his spot starts.

Crabbe made the only shot he attempted Friday, seeing his first action in four games and finishing the win with three points and one rebound.

Crabbe has only scored more than three points in a game six times since the start of December. He's at the very end of Portland's rotation, and just doesn't get enough playing time to be any sort of a fantasy option.
