Tue Mar 21 202316:24Dorian Finney-Smith Is Available Against Cleveland
Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith (wrist) was originally listed as questionable for Tuesday's matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He's now available for the team and will likely slot into his normal role of around 27-to-30 minutes per game. Fantasy managers should now expect the usual value out of Royce O'Neale and Yuta Watanabe since Finney-Smith won't be vacating all of those minutes.

Mon Mar 20 202321:50Dorian Finney-Smith Questionable Against Cavs
Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith (wrist) is listed as questionable to play Tuesday versus the Cleveland Cavaliers. Finney-Smith is dealing with a wrist contusion in his shooting hand and may miss his first game since joining the Nets. If Finney-Smith is unable to go, look for a committee of Royce O'Neale, Yuta Watanabe and Seth Curry to pick up the slack.

Fri Feb 10 202313:152023 NBA Trade Deadline Breakdown - Fantasy Basketball Impacts
The NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone and we had one of the most active deadlines in recent memory with some big stars being dealt. Kyrie, KD, and Westbrook are all heading to new teams and we have been covering those trades and their fantasy impacts here at RotoBaller. But there were plenty of other lesser-known players who were dealt in the last few days and I wanted to go through and make sure we don't overlook some of these trades as some of those deals may even have more fantasy impact than the big moves. So here are some other trades that went down and my two cents on the increase or decrease in value that we should expect from the players involved for the remainder of the 2022-2023 fantasy basketball season.

Moves That Matter

These are very much in order of how much they matter. Let's start with the Spurs sending their starting center back up North where he started his career.Jakob Poeltl to the RaptorsI am a huge Poeltl fan and was close to acquiring him on multiple teams before the deadline. It was a curious move by Toronto to be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline, but Poeltl gives them the presence at the five they have been lacking all season and allows Siakam to shift over and play PF where he belongs.Poeltl is no longer a shutdown candidate and has legit top-50 upside with his multi-category abilities. His departure also makes ... [More]
Thu Feb 9 202323:29Kevin Durant Traded to Suns - Fantasy Basketball Impact
As hectic as this year's NBA trade deadline has been, with 28 out of the 30 teams making at least one trade, early Thursday morning at 1:00 am, a blockbuster trade went down that not many expected. However, if you had read my previous article, you could have gotten a glimpse of the future thanks to my magic ball, as the first "potential trade" I wrote about was sending Kevin Durant to none other than the Pheonix Suns.Kevin Durant is undeniably a top-three player and arguably even the best in the NBA right now. It's not surprising to hear how stunned the NBA world was after seeing this trade, as the Suns sold a huge chunk of their future for the Nets superstar but were somehow saved from involving Deandre Ayton in the trade!Any average NBA fan knows how much of an impact future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant has on any team, but to emphasize just how much, check this out: The Suns went from odds of +1800 of winning the finals to +450 on Thursday morning after the huge trade, now only behind the Boston Celtics, who lead the race with their odds being +350.

Kevin Durant's Season Recap

Durant (knee) has been sidelined for over a month after getting hurt on January 8 against the Miami Heat and remains without a timetable to return to make his debut with the Suns. Before getting hurt, the 13-time All-Star was averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 0.8 steals, 1.8 blocks, and 36 minutes in 39 appearances this season.
Tue Feb 7 202307:15Kyrie Irving Traded To Dallas - Fantasy Basketball Impact
Without a doubt, Kyrie Irving is arguably one of the most naturally gifted players in the National Basketball Association. He's a fantastic ball-handler and can get to the rim with ease. However, the former Duke Blue Devil's career has been surrounded by controversy, ultimately impacting his ability to win an MVP.The NBA trade deadline kicked off with a bang when Irving, who had demanded a trade out of Brooklyn, was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. NBA fans and fantasy managers are left wondering how things will play out.To keep close tabs on all of the news across the NBA, make sure to favorite or bookmark the RotoBaller Fantasy Basketball Newspage, or download the free RotoBaller fantasy basketball mobile app with push notification alerts on all the latest news.

Kyrie Irving's Season Recap

Irving got suspended for an antisemitic social media post, keeping him out of the lineup for eight games. But since then, the 30-year-old stayed out of the limelight, so most had assumed he finally turned things around. He's played well all season, averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in 40 appearances.https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1622324668047794177?s=20&t=NTffJ2tRvNpjAA7bddjYHQHe was also selected to the All-Star team for the eighth time in his career. However, things were apparently going too well, as Irving dropped a bombshell by requesting a trade. His wish was granted, as he was sent to Dallas in exchange for ... [More]
Sun Feb 5 202316:03Dorian Finney-Smith On The Move To Brooklyn
The Mavericks are sending Dorian Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie to the Nets in exchange for Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris. Finney-Smith has spent his entire career in Dallas, averaging 8.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. Although the 29-year-old isn't the most consistent offensive option, he will certainly give Brooklyn a much-needed boost on the defensive end.

Wed Jan 18 202318:02Dorian Finney-Smith Starting Wednesday
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith (groin) will play and start Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks. Finney-Smith is finally making his return after missing weeks with an adductor strain and will slide back into a starting role. Finney-Smith is not the flashiest player, but he offers solid fantasy value due to his steals and low turnover rate. Reggie Bullock and Davis Bertans figure to take the biggest dip in minutes with the Mavericks getting healthier.

Tue Jan 17 202318:20Dorian Finney-Smith May Make Return To Court Wednesday
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith (groin) is listed as questionable to play Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks. Finney-Smith has missed 14 straight games but appears to be progressing in his recovery from injury. If Finney-Smith is able to return, Davis Bertans and Reggie Bullock would likely see the biggest dips in minutes. The Mavericks should have more information closer to tip-off on Wednesday.

Tue Dec 27 202218:53Dorian Finney-Smith Out For At Least Two More Weeks
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith (groin) will remain out for at least the next two weeks. Finney-Smith has not played since Dec. 19 and will not play until the new calendar year while he continues to rehab an adductor strain. Tim Hardaway Jr. and Reggie Bullock have been working in the starting lineup and will likely continue to do so in the coming weeks. Hardaway holds more fantasy value but is still a streaky shooter, while Bullock is more of a three-point streamer.

Mon Dec 26 202223:29Dorian Finney-Smith Unavailable Against New York
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith (adductor) is out again for Tuesday's game versus the New York Knicks. With Maxi Kleber (hamstring) out indefinitely, Reggie Bullock and Davis Bertans will likely continue to receive additional work. However, neither man has done much from a statistical standpoint this season, so fantasy managers in deep formats should look elsewhere for a Finney-Smith replacement.

Wed Dec 21 202219:58Dorian Finney-Smith Ruled Out Against Minnesota
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith (groin) won't play on Wednesday against Minnesota. The 29-year-old was injured in Monday's first game of back-to-back outings versus the Timberwolves, allowing Davis Bertans to finish with 18 points off 6-for-9 shooting from deep. While Bertans won't be starting, he should get enough minutes off the bench to warrant a start in all fantasy setups.

Mon Dec 19 202223:04Dorian Finney-Smith Injured In Loss To Minnesota
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith (groin) was injured during Monday night's loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Mavs were already entering this one without Tim Hardaway Jr. (illness), Dwight Powell (thigh) and Maxi Kleber (hamstring), so adding another player to the growing list wouldn't be ideal. The 29-year-old has started in all 30 of his games this season, averaging 8.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals. It's possible he'll miss time moving ahead, and depending on who is healthy for Dallas, Davis Bertans, who finished with 18 points off 6-for-9 shooting from deep, could become a popular waiver-wire option in category leagues.

Sun May 8 202220:45Dorian Finney-Smith Records Playoff Career-High
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith scored 24 points, a playoff career-high, during Sunday's playoff victory over Phoenix to tie the series at two games each. The 29-year-old was red-hot all afternoon, and he finished by going 8-for-12 from deep and adding eight rebounds. With Jalen Brunson not meeting expectations throughout the series, Finney-Smith has stepped things up for the most part. He is a streaky player, as demonstrated in Game 4. However, he isn't consistent enough to warrant routine DFS consideration, primarily since his rostering cost may continue to grow ahead of Game 5 on Tuesday.

Thu Mar 31 202215:24Dorian Finney-Smith Scores Career-High 28 Points
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith scored a career-high 28 points in the team's 120-112 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. He connected on six of his 12 three-point attempts in the game, shooting 10-for-16 from the field overall. He also had three assists, two rebounds and one block. DFS has been a solid source of three-pointers lately while also adding some low-end rebounding and defensive stats. But this game came out of almost nowhere. He had scored in single-digits in each of his three games prior to Wednesday's 28-point outburst. We'll see if he stays aggressive offensively in his next game against the Washington Wizards on Friday.

Sat Mar 12 202223:38Dorian Finney-Smith Questionable Against Boston
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith (arm) is questionable leading up to Sunday's game in Boston. The 28-year-old didn't play on Friday against the Rockets because of a right arm contusion. Jalen Brunson (thigh) also carries the same injury designation, so Josh Green, who had 10 points, four steals, and two blocks versus the Rockets, Reggie Bullock, and Spencer Dinwiddie may continue to see an uptick in fantasy production.

Fri Mar 11 202219:11Jalen Brunson, Dorian Finney-Smith Ruled Out For Friday
Dallas Mavericks point/shooting guard Jalen Brunson (thigh) and small/power forward Dorian Finney-Smith (arm) have been deemed unavailable to suit up for Friday's contest against Houston. Spencer Dinwiddie and Josh Green have slid into the starting five in the duo's place, with both standing to see significant DFS upside due to the lack of offensive options alongside Luka Doncic. Brunson has enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2021-22, averaging 16 points and 5.2 assists per outing, while Finney-Smith is on pace for a new career high in scoring at 10.6 PPG. The next opportunity for either player to return to action comes Sunday vs. the Celtics.

Fri Mar 11 202210:53Jalen Brunson, Dorian Finney-Smith Questionable For Friday
Dallas Mavericks point/shooting guard Jalen Brunson (thigh) and small/power forward Dorian Finney-Smith (arm) have been listed as questionable to play in Friday's contest vs. Houston. Brunson returned from a one-game absence Wednesday to log 25 minutes, tied for his lowest total in any start this season. Finney-Smith has missed just one outing all year, but he is battling a right arm contusion stemming from Wednesday that snapped a five-game streak of scoring in double figures. Absences from either player would put an even larger offensive onus on Luka Doncic, while Spencer Dinwiddie and Reggie Bullock would stand to be upside DFS plays in their own right. Fantasy managers will want to check back prior to tip-off for the final word on Brunson and Finney-Smith.

Thu Feb 10 202218:43Dorian Finney-Smith Inks Four-Year Contract Extension
Dallas Mavericks small/power forward Dorian Finney-Smith had an active day during Thursday's trade deadline, but it did not involve a trade. Instead, Finney-Smith signed a four-year contract extension with the Mavericks, which is slated to be worth $52 million. Dallas has bought into Finney-Smith as their starting power forward, shipping Kristaps Porzingis to Washington in a deal that netted Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans. Averaging a career-high 10.1 points per game this season, Finney-Smith remains on the fringe of season-long viability in most fantasy formats, but primarily due to his biggest contributions being of the defensive variety. With that said, he has seen his offensive role expand this year, an upward trajectory that portends well for his future fantasy upside.

Sun Jan 9 202219:22Dorian Finney-Smith Available Against Bulls
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith (illness) is available for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bulls. He is dealing with a non-COVID related illness, but will suit up here. Fantasy managers should expect him in the starting five and to have an increased usage. Kristaps Porzingis remains out due to the league's health and safety protocols. That means, Luka Doncic will be asked to carry the load on offense. Although, Finney-Smith should see increased chances and is a possible streaming option or low cost DFS choice for Sunday's slate.

Sat Dec 25 202121:38Dorian Finney-Smith Won't Play On Saturday
Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith (illness) won't be available for Saturday's game against the Utah Jazz. He will sit this game out due to a non-COVID related illness. The Mavericks are extremely shorthanded with six other players in protocols. Kristaps Porzingis (toe) will play and run the offense on Saturday. He'll be a fantastic DFS option and needs to be back in lineups immediately. Hopefully, Finney-Smith will be able to suit up for their next contest.
