Thu Dec 7 202318:32Lauri Markkanen Back At Thursday's Practice
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hamstring) fully participated in practice on Thursday. The 7-14 Jazz have taken things slowly with their franchise player, as Markkanen has missed six straight games with a left hamstring strain. Markkanen's presence at Thursday's session, however, would seem to get him on the right side of the questionable tag for Friday's game versus the Los Angeles Clippers. Before going down, the 26-year-old reigning Most Improved Player of the Year was dominating to the tune of 23.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.3 threes, and 2.2 combined steals and blocks per night in 34.1 minutes across 15 games in Salt Lake City. Spot-up shooter Simone Fontecchio has functioned as the primary fantasy beneficiary in Markkanen's stead, with modest averages of 11.0 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.2 threes in 28.6 minutes over his last six starts. Fontecchio would likely regress to waiver-wire fodder when Markkanen re-enters Utah's lineup.

Tue Dec 5 202321:54Lauri Markkanen Out On Wednesday
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hamstring) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Dallas Mavericks. Markkanen will miss at least one more game as he works his way back from a left hamstring strain. His absence will keep Simone Fontecchio in the starting five. He hasn't been a great fantasy option, but could have some low-end appeal in deep leagues. The expectation is that Omer Yurtseven and Walker Kessler should see more minutes as well with Kelly Olynyk (shoulder) ruled out.

Sat Dec 2 202309:11Lauri Markkanen Remains Out On Saturday
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hamstring) will miss a fifth consecutive game Saturday versus Portland. He's recovering from a hamstring strain, and muscle injuries are notoriously tricky to overcome, so it's not fully clear when the Finnish forward will be ready for action again. Simone Fontecchio has broken into the starting unit following Markkanen's injury and should continue to benefit from the situation on Saturday. He's posted 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists as a starter.

Tue Nov 28 202321:23Lauri Markkanen To Miss Next Two Games
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hamstring) will miss each of the next two games of the current road trip. Markkanen has been battling a hamstring issue, so the team will shut him down and re-evaluate him after these two games. His absence should mean that Simone Fontecchio will continue to draw starts. Although, he won't be anything more than a possible deep league streaming option. Ochai Agbaji should see more minutes as well, but is a shaky fantasy option right now.

Mon Nov 27 202315:56Lauri Markkanen Out, Jordan Clarkson Active Monday
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hamstring) is out for Monday's game versus the New Orleans Pelicans, but guard Jordan Clarkson (illness) is available to play. Markkanen's left hamstring strain also held him out of Saturday's contest against the Pels, which was his first absence of the season. Averaging 23.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.3 triples over 15 starts, Markkanen resides on the Round 1/2 edge in 9-category fantasy value. The 26-year-old All-Star looks to get back into the mix on Wednesday against the faltering Memphis Grizzlies, while Simone Fontecchio is a candidate to draw another starting nod on Monday. Ochai Agbaji and Talen Horton-Tucker are other options for increased run in a deep, versatile Jazz rotation. Clarkson, on the other hand, returns from a one-game sit-down due to an illness, which should displace Kris Dunn from Utah's starting group. Clarkson, always a points-league preference, is averaging 18.3 points, 4.6 dimes, and 1.8 treys across 15 starts.

Sun Nov 26 202322:50Lauri Markkanen Marked As Questionable Ahead Of Monday
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hamstring) has been tagged as questionable due to a left hamstring strain and is in danger of missing his second consecutive game because of it. Markkanen remains the go-to guy on this team, so there's a big hole that can only be filled by a lot of players contributing at once. If he can't suit up, John Collins will likely see a bump in usage while Simone Fontecchio would probably get the start in his place. Kelly Olynyk is still an underrated choice as a streaming option as well.

Sat Nov 25 202309:59Lauri Markkanen Could Miss First Game Of The Season
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hamstring) could be out for the first time this season on Saturday against New Orleans, as the team has listed him as questionable for the game. The Finnish star has hurt his left hamstring, and his absence would leave the Jazz without their top scorer. Markkanen has averaged close to 24 points per game in 34.1 minutes with 8.7 rebounds. Kelly Olynyk figures to see a larger role if Markkanen can't go, although the Jazz could also have Walker Kessler (elbow) back in the selection, with the big man earning a questionable tag after sitting out seven games.

Mon Nov 20 202309:55Lauri Markkanen Posts Big Double-Double Versus Phoenix
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen cooked up a juicy fantasy line Sunday versus Phoenix, finishing a double-overtime loss with 38 points and 17 rebounds. He added two steals and two blocks on the defensive end while shooting 15-for-27 from the field. It was an outstanding performance from Markkanen, although he managed only 2-for-10 with his attempts from behind the arc, and the Jazz ended up losing the nail-biting game 140-137. Utah's offense has been all about Jordan Clarkson lately, but Markkanen has continued to do solid work behind him and is averaging 26.5 points across the last six games.

Thu Oct 19 202315:38Lauri Markkanen Sitting Versus Kings
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (rest) is not going to suit up for Thursday's preseason finale versus the Sacramento Kings. Markkanen has probably earned the night off, too, after last year's first-time All-Star banked his second straight efficient preseason of play this fall. Markkanen averaged 16.8 points on 52.2% shooting, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.0 three-pointers in four exhibition games, looking locked-in for Oct. 25's regular-season opener vs. Sacramento. Target the 2022-23 Most Improved Player of the Year along the Round 2/3 turn in upcoming 12-team fantasy drafts as the focal point of head coach Will Hardy's offense. The Jazz figure to give first-round rookies Taylor Hendricks and Brice Sensabaugh plenty of run on Thursday, as well as Simone Fontecchio.

Fri Aug 25 202320:40Lauri Markkanen Scores 19 Points In FIBA Loss
Finland National Team forward Lauri Markkanen scored 19 points during the FIBA loss to Australia on Friday. The Utah Jazz All-Star added eight boards, four assists, and one block. However, he shot a rough 7-for-17 from the field and 1-for-7 from behind the arc. Markkanen, who averaged a career-high 25.6 points last season, will look to lead his squad to its first win on Sunday against Japan.

Mon Apr 24 202322:25Lauri Markkanen Named Most Improved Player Of The Year
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen was named the 2022-23 Most Improved Player of the Year on Monday. The 2017 No. 7 overall pick had the best year of his career, logging a career-high 25.6 points per game, 10.8 points higher than the previous season. He also averaged 8.6 rebounds, shot 39.2% from deep, and was an All-Star for the first time. Without question, Markkanen will see a substantial uptick in fantasy interest heading into the 2023-24 campaign. However, he has played 61 games or less in four of his six seasons in the National Basketball Association, something fantasy managers should consider.

Sat Apr 8 202313:02Lauri Markkanen Out Against Denver
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hand) won't play on Saturday against the Denver Nuggets. Utah has one more game after this one, so fantasy managers will likely not see Markkanen for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign. Talen Horton-Tucker (ankle) and Kelly Olynyk (rest) are also out, meaning Simone Fontecchio and Luka Samanic should receive enough minutes to give them plenty of value on the DFS end.

Tue Apr 4 202316:50Lauri Markkanen Downgraded To Out Again On Tuesday
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hand) has been downgraded yet again to out on Tuesday, so he will miss the contest against the Los Angeles Lakers. The 25-year-old has been in and out of the lineup a lot over the last few weeks as the Jazz are a game and a half out of the play-in tournament. At this point, it seems like the direction that the front office wants to go in is the tanking route, rather than fighting for a playoff spot. While Markkanen is out, Kelly Olynyk and Simone Fontecchio could be solid streaming options.

Tue Apr 4 202309:57Lauri Markkanen Questionable Tuesday
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hand) might be unavailable for the team again Tuesday versus the Lakers, with the Finnish star carrying a questionable tag. Markkanen has played in just three of the team's last eight games and the Jazz don't really have to push him through injuries, as the hopes of extending the season have gotten very slim. Simone Fontecchio has made some noise lately and should be back in the starting unit if Markkanen doesn't play.

Sun Apr 2 202314:37Lauri Markkanen Available Against Brooklyn
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hand) will return from a two-game absence on Sunday in Brooklyn. As a result, Simone Fontecchio will head back to the bench and lose most of his DFS appeal. At the same time, Kelly Olynyk and Talen Horton-Tucker may see a dip in production with Markkanen back in the mix.

Sat Apr 1 202319:04Lauri Markkanen Could Miss Sunday's Game
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hand) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Brooklyn Nets. The 25-year-old has missed four of the last five games due to a left hand contusion. The Jazz are within a game of the 10th seed, so Utah does technically have something to play for right now. However, they don't appear to be to eager about getting Markkanen back on the court. In the meantime, Simone Fontecchio should continue to start while Luka Samanic gets increased minutes off the bench. Neither of them are consistent fantasy options right now.

Thu Mar 30 202322:10Lauri Markkanen Won't Play On Friday
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hand) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Boston Celtics. Markkanen will miss his second game in a row due to a left hand contusion. His absence should mean that Simone Fontecchio moves into the starting five. However, Luka Samanic played more minutes than Fontecchio during their last contest. It appears the Jazz are going into full tank mode. That being said, it's hard to predict which players are going to be reliable streaming options on this roster.

Wed Mar 29 202314:49Lauri Markkanen Ruled Out Again With Hand Issue
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hand) has been downgraded from questionable to out on Wednesday due to some soreness stemming from his hand contusion. He was able to play in their last matchup, but his shooting percentages suffered. To combat the uncomfortable soreness, he'll get the night off which means Simone Fontecchio will see some extra playing time now that he's been listed as available for this contest.

Tue Mar 28 202318:21Lauri Markkanen Questionable Against Spurs
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hand) is questionable to play Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs. Markkanen has been in and out of the lineup the past week with a hand contusion, but was able to play 36 minutes on Monday, scoring 25 points. If Markkanen is unable to go, Simone Fontecchio would likely be the next man up.

Sun Mar 26 202321:51Lauri Markkanen Questionable For Monday
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (hand) is questionable ahead of Monday's matchup against the Suns. If he doesn't suit up, it will be his third consecutive absence because of a hand contusion. If that happens, Simone Fontecchio should continue to start. The 27-year-old has averaged 12.3 points in four starts this season, so he has a way to go before establishing himself as a reliable fantasy option.
