CHICAGO (AP) — All-Star guard Luka Doncic was back in the Dallas Mavericks' lineup against the Chicago Bulls on Monday after missing a game because of a sprained left thumb. Averaging team highs of 28.6 points and 8.8 assists per game, the 6-foot-7 guard sat out Sunday's win at Minnesota. His thumb bothered him during Friday's loss to Miami.The Mavericks held out Kristaps Porzingis a day after tied a season high with 38 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. They were also without Seth Curry (lower back tightness), Jalen Brunson (right shoulder sprain) and Dwight Powell (right Achilles surgery). Willie Cauley-Stein was available after missing six games for personal reasons.Bulls leading scorer Zach LaVine was inactive because of a strained left quadriceps and is day to day. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic will miss Sunday afternoon’s game in Minnesota because of a left thumb sprain and coach Rick Carlisle was unsure Doncic would be available Monday in Chicago.Carlisle said Doncic was dealing with the injury in Friday’s loss to Miami when he had 23 points, 10 assists and four rebounds. Doncic had played in five games since returning from a right ankle sprain. He leads Dallas with 28.6 points and 8.8 assists per game this season.“It was pretty clear in the Miami game that it’s really a problem,” Carlisle said. “He’ll be out today and tomorrow, we’ll see where we are.”The Mavericks are also without Jalen Brunson (right shoulder sprain), Willie Cauley-Stein (personal reasons) and Dwight Powell (right Achilles surgery) against the Timberwolves. Carlisle said Cauley-Stein will rejoin the team in Chicago.

Powell has played all but five of his 371 career games for the Mavericks since coming over from Boston in the Rajon Rondo trade in December 2015. Dallas acquired that selection in a draft-day trade with Detroit last year. DALLAS (AP) — The Mavericks have re-signed restricted free agent Dorian Finney-Smith to a $12 million, three-year contract, bringing back the undrafted forward for a fourth season in Dallas.Finney-Smith has been on the back end of coach Rick Carlisle's rotation while averaging 5.9 points and 3.7 rebounds in 183 career games, with 74 starts. The former Memphis player is a solid defender whose 3-point shooting has improved slightly each season, although still hovering around 30 percent.The 26-year-old Finney-Smith has played in 81 games twice, including last season when he also made 26 starts. He had a career-best 35 starts as a rookie in 2016-17. Last season Finney-Smith averaged career bests of 7.5 points and 4.8 rebounds.Finney-Smith was one of three restricted free agents the Mavericks are bringing back.
